how many posts do you have to make to go up a rank in the ranking system for this message board? or is it even posts that determine it?

I believe this question has been answered at least twice before. Basically what happens is that if you post thoughtful, insightful posts that benefit the board as a whole, then a moderator will recognize this and give you another rank (star and title). However, if you post many poorly written, short messages, you will be branded SPAMMIN' MON-KEIGH and banished.

Ack! You ruined it!

Oh well...it's precisely 51. But I consider it bad taste to stop at 51 exactly...hang around and post a few more (good posts please!) before you stop.
