The Eldar army had recently been slightly re-organised after the arrival of the first Swooping Hawk Exarch, who had a name something like ‘Breaking Wind’. The Warp Spiders had been dropped, leaving the army a bit like this:

Farseer: loaded down with war gear and psychic abilities.

Breaking Wind.

Two Squads of five Wraithguard each with a Warlock to boost their WS and Initiative.

Two Wraithlords with Starcanon.

A Fire Prism groaning under the weight of extra equipment.

A Falcon barely able to fly because of its optional extras.

Two squads of three Shining Spears. Each lead by an Exarch so experienced and talented that their jointly authored book ‘How To Be A Shining Spear in Three Weeks or Your Money Back’ had sold over a Million copies.

The mission was a bunker assault do. The Marines were defending. The terrain was sparse on the Eldar side and dense on the marine side, with a ruined farm on the Marines’ right and scattered hills, orchards and crop fields all over the shop. The single bunker was placed on a hill dominating the centre of the battlefield.

The Marines deployed the Sgt-Major’s squad into the bunker, B’Kwerm’s squad into the ruins on the right and the two sniper squads in a wood also on the right. The rest of the force was in reserve.

The Eldar deployed the Fire Prism and a Wraithlord behind a hill in their right corner, a Wraithguard squad and the Falcon containing the Farseer behind a hill in their left corner, and everything else skulking behind a wall in the centre.

The Marines opened fire. Two casualties were inflicted on a Shining Spears squad. The remaining spear failed his All on His Own test and fled off the battlefield.

The eldar then had their tanks pop over hills, fire at the bunker and drop back down again. The two wraithlords moved out of cover. The bunker was destroyed by the remaining shining spear exarch’s Bright Lance.
The Crusader Obliteratus then trundled onto the field in the centre, while the Vindicator, Whirlwind and Dreadnought moved onto the left. One Wraithlord was destroyed and a few Wraithguard casualties inflicted.

Disaster then struck as Obliteratus was destroyed by a single penetrating hit from the Falcon’s Bright Lance. The Fire Prism and the Whirlwind commenced a competition to see who could be the most inaccurate, neither managing to inflict a single casualty for the whole game.

The Terminators then accurately arrived by Deep Strike, destroying the remaining Shining Spears with accurate fire before succumbing to Tank shock when the shadow of the Falcon passed over one of them. They spent the rest of the game running away. The battle continued without the assault squad.

Eventually, on turn six things were looking rosy to B’Kwerm. He had at least a 200 odd victory point margin and although the Eldar were gaining steadily there was little chance that they could close the gap in one turn. It was at this point that Corporal S’Tandbax lead his Deep Striking Assault Squad towards the battlefield. ‘Double One’ later and the assault squad missed the battlefield entirely, gifting the Eldar with about 250 victory points. No further points were scored in the last turn.

B’Kwerm now had a choice. He could exploit the Salamanders legendary tenacity and fight on for another turn or take the current situation and hope that the victory points were still in his favour. If he fought on he was in no position to gain many points, whereas the Eldar would be likely to gain points. The battle ended.

Victory points were totted up. The Marines had 1027. The Eldar had 1028. A draw was agreed, or as the Eldar Farseer put it “A crushing victory for us”.

B’Kwerm held a conference with Sgt-Major Ba’al. “I wish to see Corporal S’Tandbax alone. Please ensure that we are not disturbed and that my bolter is loaded.”

Just wondering, but you do know that in order to field an Exarch, your Breaking Wind guy, that you must have a squad of his aspect. You buy the Hawks, then you upgrade one of them to an Exarch. You can't just have an exarch running around by himself.

Hello, I have an amusing battle report concerning space marines,Dark eldar,Cadians,Eldar (hooray) and Catachans, here it is, its a bit long but I got carried away typing, not to mention I typed it a few days after the battle so I couldn't pinpoint all the turns exactly...

Battle report
eldar / space marines / dark eldar
vs
Impirail guard (cadian / catachan)

   Eldar perspective...

There was much worry of the sacred runes on the new found planet (named frit) being discovered for a long while now, Farseer Tiberius of the san hiann craftworld was in charge of ensuring no non-eldar eyes would see the runes witch described the battle of a thousand swords witch took place on jred. Unfortunately for Tiberius and his loyal warlock Elron, the runes were in great danger of being discovered.

There was a massive war erupting on the surface of frit and if the shelling of the ancient site continued the runes were surely lost,Tiberius himself swore he would go and protect the runes. Elron instantly stressed that a war was going on and a contingency plan was in order.

When tibirius reached the surface he was shocked to discover the filthy dark eldar on the scene polluting the world with their mere presence, Elron raged but was eventually stopped by tibirius who had pointed out that the dark eldar were occupying the sacred site.Imperetive as it was to protect the runes the Farseer made a strange decision. He was forced to forge a tomporary alliance with those seething, treacherous, scum - The dark eldar - nearly every guardian and pilot cursed, questioning the farseer's ability to control his troops.

After the landing the farseer had deployed his troops behind the caslte where the runes were hidden ordering them to wait for his orders, one of the guardian squads was put inside the caslte for defence along with Tibirius who was standing on the rear battlement so his troops could see his signal.

To the troops surprise a squad of three rangers had wandered out of the woods to see what the noise was about only to notice the troops origin, san hiann, hooray! The homesick rangers had settled on the planet confident that they would never see those lovely red/black patterns again.

The dark angels had arrived shortly after the eldar landing agreeing to help on the premise that they could have the catachan leader - straken - conviced he had directions to one of the fallen, how convenient,

The battle with the imperial guard began swiftly as the rangers popped off the first shot at the outlying sentinals doing absolutely nothing at all. Tibirius knew what he was doing and commanded his troops to do nothing else.

The battle raged as the impirial guard opened up on the caslte with their long-range lascannons cutting down space marine after space marine after space marine, the guardians and tank pilots peeked around the corner snickering at the pathetic space marines throwing themselves at the solid wall of gaurdsmen and getting cut down.

The only space marines of intrest were the mighty assault marines who slaughtered whole squads of impirial quard with ease but being killed eventually

The dark eldar, as usual, were cut down quickly one squad rushing around the corner slammed into the falcon tank putting a harty dint in it's armor and scratching the paint byond repair, after being yelled at by Elron they went back around he corner and were thrown aside like a bunch of dead
bodies (witch is what they were by then)

The cadian chimira was comming too close for Elron's liking and he ordered his men around to attack keeping only his favorite guardians close at hand. the falcon tank rushed around and opened up on the chimera but missed entirely.

The element of surprise was now lost and the chimera commander had ordered his troops to disembark as swiftly as possible, and in good time too. The falcon tank fired a full barrage at the chimera ripping it to sheds the fuel and hydraulic component exploding creating a massive sphere of flame, one guardsman was thrown foreward but appeared
unhurt.

The three jetbikes had flown foreward assaulting the recovering Guardsmen and killed two of the only to be killed themselves, except the Viper witch had charged the men, attempting to break their lines, but the men stood firm and a lascannon bolt had struck the side of the viper causing it to crash.

Farseer Tiberius had spent his time looking into fate and seeing the future, noticing that in none of the possobilities would involve the runes being found, he signalled the men and the eldar force began to pull back to the table edge... err I mean the extraction zone...yeah...uh... anyway, The space marine chaplain was enraged at the eldar defection and rode on his hog toward farseer Tiberius, and wounded him.The falcon tank gunner had seen this horrid act of barbarianism and opened fire with the huge Bright lance vapourizing the Chaplain and destroying the bike.

As the eldar left a tyranyd horde attacked the planet and almost certainly killed all who stood in their way, the guardians could almost hear the screams - it seemed to bring them pleasure. As farseer Tiberius sat in the war-room of his ship with elron, his body bandaged from the chaplain's foolish assault, he pulled out a peoce of gleaming wraithbone. Inscribed upon it wre those sacred runes, God bless the pheonix lords!

Check it out - The "breaking wind" guy, as my mate puts it, is actually Baharroth "The Cry of the Wind" one of the phoenix lords and counts as an HQ choice and is an independant character.

Mind you - I intend to also have some Swooping Hawks - and I do realise that exarchs have got to be part of a unit.
