scarabs are a sweet unit that moves quickly (12") soaks up lots of damage (30 wounds for a full unit) and can bother pretty much anyone, including armour...

not sure if they can be used to screen other units due to their small size, anyone?

Instead of scarabs, use Tombspyders ( i guess some people already said that on this post). They produce scarabs in play. Us'em as shield for any unit. Just remember to keep the unit 4" behind the Scarabs, so the enemy can charge the scarabs, but cant after killing the scarabs, move in to you'r protected unit.

Scarabs are awesome.

They can tie up most things like tactical marine squads for many turns and if you are the least bit lucky they can actually win against them. Lets do the numbers game:

10 scarabs vs 10 marines
Points
Scarabs-120 base
Marines-150 base
Asuming that nobody charges. (all decimals are going to be rounded up)

Marines go first. 10 attacks. 7 hit. 5 wound. 1 base dies one has 1 wound left.

Scarabs strike back. 27 attacks. 14 hit. 5 wound. 2 marines die.

So from the first round you can see that the Marines are in trouble as they only took out one base while the Scarabs took out two marines.

So use those scarabs to tie stuff up because the combat simulated up top would probably (assuming they dont fall back since scarabs are fearless) will last for 5 turns or more.

Whats even better is you forgot to include the armor saves of the scarab bases in there.

Scarabs rock.  No doubt about it.

I still need to improve on the strategy involving the scarabs.  Whats a good strategy involving the tomb spyders and scarabs besides the ones mentioned above?
