Title: Spring Painting Challenge [Month 2/3]

Welcome to the Painting Challenge. We are now into the 2nd year of these, first under Loydb, Khemri Demon, Serious Callers Only and now me. The goal of this challenge is to get some of that unpainted lead that most of us have laying around table-ready. At the start of each month, participants pledge to have a squad painted by the closing date.

I will update this post with a list of people who wish to vow.

RULES

1. Vows will be frozen 10 days after the start of the challenge. There is no changing of *any* vow after day 10. Say what you'll paint, then paint what you say. If you don't already own the models you want to paint, I suggest not making the vow until you do.  Vows are still accepted after the 10th, but they can not be changed afterward.

2. This is more of a request than a rule. *Please* post work in progress pics if you possibly can. One of the best things about the thread is watching stuff come together.  It's perfectly fine if you don't post any photos, however.

3. I need to know unit sizes when you post your vows.



FAQ
Q: Do I have to do Games Workshop figs?
A: No. Several people make Warmachine vows, myself included.  Feel free to do vows based on any game system.

Q: I need to change my vow!
A: You have until Day 10 of the month.

Q: What if I don't have a camera?
A: We operate on the honor system. If you say you did it, we believe you. There are no prizes, so you only get the satisfaction of lying on the internet if you choose to do so.

Q: Will you do one of these every month?
A: That's the goal. Assuming the board manages to stay up

Q: Hey, what if we finish our vow but decide to paint more?
A: Paint away! If you mean, can you get a head start on next month, I guess so. But it's kind of cheesy to make a vow with a 75% painted unit at the start of the month...

Finished 8 Stealers and the Fex. working on the 6 reavers now and they are about 60% done.

I vow: 16 Empire Spearmen... to start.  I've been on a roll so who knows, could easily end up being more.

April 6th Update:  Doing a half blue/half white color.  Have the first layer on armor and clothing done.  At this rate I could have them done by the end of the week.

Vows locked, but not updated.  I have decided on my vow though.  I kind of picked models I had from each of my armies laying around.  Titan Gladiator, Eiryss, Kreoss, Shepard, Ulrik the Slayer.  Titan is based and I"m going to strip and redo eiryss.

Sorry bud, I'm trying to enforce the 'before the 10th' rule now.  Don't keep that from holding yourself to that vow.

I know the vows aren't updated yet, I'll get to it now.  EDIT: Done.  Took me 4 days, but I got it.  Sorry, been lazy.

I also finished Ulrik.  Yay!  Pictures later...maybe.  Depends on my current level of laziness.

Looking at the pics I did this morning, I may need to do a bit more shading on the horns. I wasn't happy with the first shading attempt I made, so I left them fairly flat. I thought that looked fine on the live model, but it seems a bit dull in the pics.

Maybe add some brown/yellow/bleached bone coming up from the base of them horns?

Otherwise, I really love the skin my man!  That's a ton of work, I can appreciate the details

Ok last time i made a vow my work painting projects took over so, this time around now that those are done.

Haha, that was intentional.  You know, you'd get tired of seeing normal colored hair, too, after a while. =P  I even have a few with green hair and orange hair.  ;D

Finally, pictures of ulrik.

Tried to imitate some of what my friend did on my other wolfpriest, with the sharp highlights.  Turned out alright, but I only did one level for the most part.  THe skull has more depth on the side.  Also the varnish came out very glossy, so it creates some highlights of it's own.  The cloak came out thicker then  I had hoped, and wish I could do that over.

nice work like the skull, although the backpack seems a little plain.

SOB's are religious fanatics IMO so purple could be seen as a mark of chaos, although i did someting similair on my sisters, i painted one strand of purple or red and my leader had her hair in the style as claire from the comic faust tophalf black and lower part blond (18+ ultraviolent comic from Tim Vigil)

SoB squad is almost done - just need to finish a few details and put some chipped cork on the bases. Been painting a bonus Canoness too but she won't be done until I can get hold of a spare Seraphim jetpack. Which GW no longer offer. Bah.

I just finished my shepard. Maybe...2.5 hours of work there. Did an hour to an hour and a half last night, doing the whites. Then did the blacks and the metals just now. Looks fair. Not grand, but already. THe paint on the face came out kind of thick and chunky, so it looks like she's wearing bad make up and that kind of kills the smooth face on the model. Also, I think I lost a lot of detail in the scythe when I primed her, or there just isn't a lot of texture there. Going to go seal her now, and pictures tonight or tomorrow maybe.

Titan is mostly based coated, but undipped and eiryss is still in the stripper (There's an elven hooker joke in there somewhere).
