Do you still get old serial ports
« on: September 11, 2003, 03:24:15 PM »

Guys I have a little question to ask anyone who is uptodaye with PCs. Do new computers still come with the old style serial port a.k.a com port (proper name RS-232). Or has this now been totally phased out in favour of the USB port (Universal serial bus).

Thanks in advance for any comments, and mods I apologise for the placemant of this, nowhere quite seemed appropriate.

yep... almost every keyboard/mouse out there now seems to come with usb to PS2 adaptor for when PS2 are finally phased out (i give them another year or 2 at most)

the problem with all these products now using USB - mother boards will have to start using more USB ports if possible. either that - or we will all have to invest in a converted cart to turn one of our spare PCI ports into a 4 way usb slot
subtle as a sledge hammer

Why go to all that trouble?  Just get a port replicator.  Works great!  Just make sure your comp isnt too archaic, like mine...

Ive got a friggin PII 266 with a 66mHz bus for god's sake!
