This is a WIP thread for painting all of my marines.  I honestly don't know how many pts I have (7k maybe), but most are unpainted/poorly painted so I'll post them up as I'm doing them.  I've made tremendous progress on this project, it will probably be my first totally finished army.  Let's hope!

Batreps using this army(just the 5th edition ones,  :P):
Apoc Megabattle Good vs Evil - 12,000pts per side
Marines and Orks vs Marines and Sisters - 3000pts/side
1500pts Marines vs Tyranids
Marines vs Orks (kans) - 1500pts
Mech Marines vs Biker Marines - 1000pts
Space Marines vs Tyranids 2000pts
Marines vs Chaos Marines - 1000pts
Pod marines and bike marines vs Tyranids - 2000pts

Old 4th edition batreps start here.

I have completed the fluff for my chapter, the Unbound.

Also see my tyranid army project.

The army so far:

To do list:
1 more drop pod
1 more converted TFC
2 new style rhinos
redo bikes, attack bikes, biker chaplain
30ish tac marines
3 captains
vindicator
15ish assault marines
15ish AoBR terminators that I really don't need lol

********************************

ORIGINAL POST:
I've painted up a good bit of the models this week.  Here's some pics.  Apologies for quality, i'm still figuring out how to use our new digital camcorder.

A couple of landspeeder tornadoes with decorative bases.

My new walking chappie and his command squad.

The Vet Squad. (two of these guys have unpainted pistols that I just added, oops)

Missle Launcher Devastators.

And an obligatory pic of my painting area (used to be a dining room  :'( )

I'll update as more of the army is completed.

Not really on the army list but here's another squad of ML devs I painted this week at the same time as the others:

The blob on the left is one of the ML troopers that was eaten when I wasn't looking.

The Xenos Threat

I've already painted the scout and termie squads a while back.

Will probably strip and repaint the termie squad as the old paint scheme sucked.  These guys also need big 40mm bases that I don't have at the moment.

I like my scouts as they are.

And here's my old chapie and his assault squad in the old paint scheme.  Basically I'm goint from a light green scheme to dark green with white trim with more detailing.

Putting together a tac squad next.

You might try holding the camera a little farther back and hold down the trigger for a good 2-3 seconds before it snaps the picture... that way you can take time to look at where its focusing... assuming its a digi camera... course we all know what assuming makes...

I don't actually own enough Heavy Bolter minis, so here's some conversions from today using razorback turret HB bits.

The knife blade is from a dark eldar helmet, the ammo boxes are off a rhino storm bolter bit.  Some residual black and tan paint on these minis, really hard to remove for some reason.  I have 3 more regular marines soaking in simple green today.

Also assembled the first tac squad, "red squad".

The legs are chaos marine bits I got cheap from ebay  ::) Sarg has a greenstuffed power fist I did a while back.  Still waiting on the backpacks for these guys.

Yeah, he's still eyeing up the rest of my army.  I'm sure they taste great.   ::)

Progress-
Backpacks are in, so I finished assembling tac squad 1.  Also Put together a second tac squad and the rest of the HB devs.  All have been primed and base coated green.  I'm part way through the black basecoating on weapons and detail areas.

Red squad (chaos legs in all their glory!)

Second Tac Squad, "Silver Squad" (painted 2 of these dudes in that last big batch of marines)

The made from scratch devastators.

These are some banners I plan to put on the command, vet, and tac squads.  I guess you just glue them to a back pack?

So I'll finish up the black areas, then drybrush with silver, then move on to details.  And the earlier models still need a good coat of varnish too.

try watering down the white paint a bit, it looks kinda lumpy in spots
the green looks nice and smooth though :)

I think the white areas looked blotchy cause the models are a bit worn.  I water it down just like all my paints, but every little imperfection shows.  Hopefully, the new minis will look better.  If not, i may have to try something new for white.

I'll do an ink wash or two near the end, dunno about drybrushing for these guys.  That's a lot of green.  :P

UPDATE-
Did my metallic paints and started with red detailing.

HB Devastators. And a shot of the detail on a backpack.  These will probably get a dull yellow squad shoulder marking.

Tac Squad 1.  Red is done on these.

Tac Squad 2.

Details of the two Veterans that had unpainted guns.  Yes, my freehand sucks!

So, I'll finish up the red areas, then do some detailing with dark brown for leather bits.  Then do the painfull white sections.  :o

With the details getting picked out....the minis are coming together...good job ;D
I have a solution for you white....for my white i base with the lightest grey(i know the name i just dont know if were allowed to say the actual color names) GW foundation paint. Then i go back and put white over it....it allows less white and looks A LOT smoother.

Ya, i'm using a 2-step scheme.  Thanks!

UPDATE-
So I've continued painting up the last 3 squads of my army.  The red and brown details are painted, and i'm doing the white areas now.

HB Devastators.  Did their awesome yellow shoulder pads.  Working on the white areas. You can see the dark grey basecoat where i'm going to paint white next.

Tac Squad 1.  Partway done with the white areas.

Tac Squad 2.  Red, brown and whites all done.

Next, I'll finish the white, give them an ink wash, and work on basing.

UPDATE-
The models are done and varnished, I'll get some decent pics of them up at some point.  In the mean time, I'm moving on to some assault terminators.  Here they are after assembly, with a little extra basing bits for those huge 40mm bases:

Sargeant(LCs), Termie Chaplain, Termi(LCs).

More LCs.

The thunder hammers.  I'll be able to mix and match who goes in the LRC.  Speaking of Land Raiders, I have no idea how I'm gonna strip that thing...

Some miscelaneous guys I put together this week as well.  An assault sarg, termie sarg, and an extra ML dev to replace the one my dog ate.

Some objective markers.  I realized they'll be handy for certain missions.

All of these models are now primed and ready to get that first green coat.

As far as stripping a LR if time is no problem then Dot-4 Brake fluid will do the trick. Completly immerse it in the fluid and stir it up ever 2-3 days keep at it for 3-4 weeks to be safe. It also depends on the number of times it has been re painted. Best of luck.

Wow.  Thanks for the tip.  I'd better get that sucker soaking then.  I use simple green now, it seems to work about as good as break fluid and is non-toxic.  I think the previous owner sprayed on a really thick layer of chrome paint, fairly difficult to remove.  ::)

Chrome paint? Did the Land Raider have 22s and a killer sound system on it?

I think it was a really bad doom eagles scheme.  Chrome spray and a dab of gloppy thick black or red paint here and there on details.  I've stripped a bunch of models from that batch.  The thicker paint means stripping is always slow.
Bonus:  the guy wrote "have a nice day" on the bottom.

they would look a whole lot better if they wern't dark angels, but space wolves..

But seriously, looks good for table top quality. One thing you might wanna play with on a tester marine to see if you like.

- Mix a little grey or black into your flesh color and go over the areas where there would be a beard or mustache. Makes the marine look unshaven, great effect.

- With a can of black spray paint (or an airbrush in my case) lightly spray him from the rear at an angle so you get the underside. Do the reverse with a Yellow, Orange, or White on the front in the direction hes looking. This simulates light sources, and makes the marine look a whole lot more realisitc and not a plastic toy.

Try it out, pretty simple to do. Add's alot in my eyes.

At this point I've got around 70 marines + a coupla vehicles in this paint scheme.  No way am I changing again.  I might do the terminators a little differently, though.  Kind of like deathwing's scheme being distinct from the rest of the army.  Not sure what would look good though.  Maybe grey termies?  Could be a nice look.

Love the unshaven faces idea!

EDIT:
I found this terminator pic on the net:

It's so striking I'm going to use a similar scheme on my termies.
