Highlander Tournament 1850

A local gaming group is planning a Highlander Tourney in December, so I've got a little time to play around with list ideas.

The idea behind a Highlander Tourney is "There can only be one."  Now that does not work when coming to troops, but you need to go through all your troop choices before you can repeat. It does apply to Dedicated Transports, and since the Wave Serpent is the only one - then I can only take one. No Serpent Spam.  Also - named characters like Eldrad = their type of HQ unit. So Ragnar would = a Wolf Lord, Prince Yriel = an Autarch, etc...  We are still working out the rules for Squadrons, example - can I have one squadron of scatter/star warwalkers? I am going under the assumption that the answer is no.

So here is an idea for a list that I put together. I do have time to make a couple of purchases next month (maybe a Crimson Hunter - I could get rid of the Defense line and quad gun then, or some Spiders - I've wanted a unit of them for a while) so if you see a way to better synergize my only one of each unit list, please feel free to recommend.

HQ: Farseer: Jetbike, Shuriken Pistol, Singing Spear, Spirit Stone of Anath’lan, 135

HQ: Spirit-seer     70

Option: Warlock, Jetbike, Singing Spear   55

Troops: Dire Avengers x10   130

Troops: Wind Rider Jet Bikes x6, 2x Shuri-cannons 122

Troops: Rangers x6      72

Troops: Wraithguard x5      160
-   Transport: WaveSerpent, Holos, Scatters, Shuri-Cannon   145   

Elites: Striking Scorpions x8, Exarch, Claw, Crushing Blow   186

Elites: Fire Dragons x6, Exarch, Fast Shot (ride in Falcon)   152

F.A.: Swooping Hawks x7, Exarch, Sun Rifle   137

HVY: Falcon, BrightLance, HoloFields      150

HVY: Warwalker x1, Scatter + Star-cannon   70

HVY: Wraithlord, 2x flamers, Ghost Glaive, Scatter + Star-cannon       165
Warlord Trait:

Fortification: Aegis Defense Line, Quadgun   100

Total: 1849

I'm really thinking of dropping the two Cannon Jetbikes + the Aegis + another 25 points of stuff and picking up a Hunter Exarch. I've wanted this model for a while.

What do you all think? Suggestions?

well, I would probably have rethought my list if I were you, firstly though I would probably try to limit myself to an army wide idea, for example msu,fast, MC or skimmer spam. While you cannot take more than one of each there are many things that are similar.
Here are some combinations I would look into if I were you:
Fast army(speed)
What is fast in each section?
- HQ = farseer and warlock, autarch with improved mobility.
- Elite = running banshees or infliltrating scorpions possibly but still very slow.
- Troops = windriders, fill out with rangers possibly.
- Fast = shining spears, warp spiders, swooping hawks
- Heavy = wraithknight if anything

MC spam (durability)
- HQ = Avatar, phoenix lords or eldrad (spiritseer to unlock wraiths as troops is good)
- Elite = Wraithguards and wraithblades (double up for troops?)
- Troops = Wraithguards and wraithblades, possibly windriders.
- Fast = shining spears if anything
- Heavy = Wraithlord, wraithknight, artillery

Skimmer spam (lots of AV)
- HQ = nothing really, just grab something cheap you can stick in the serpent or falcon.
- Elite = ignore this section
- Troops = anything in a wave serpent, 5-6 avengers in the falcon.
- Fast = crimson hunter, hemlock, something from IA books or such, if not possible: vyper.
- Heavy = Falcon, fire prism, night spinner.

MSU (multiple small units)
- HQ = 2 autarchs/farseers on bikes, 1 mantle, 1 wing.
- Elite = 5 scorpions, 5 banshees, 5 harlequins,  5 fire dragons
- Troops = 5 avengers, 5 rangers, 3 bikes.
- Fast = 5 hawks, 5 spider, 3 spears (possibly add 1 hawk for larger blast)
- Heavy = 5 Reapers, 1 artillery piece, 1 walker.

You can of course combine some of these, the MC/skimmer or fast/skimmer combinations I think will work quite well.

As your list looks like now, you have a target for any kind of weapon your opponent may bring.

I would drop:
Warlock
DAs
WW
WL
Aegis

and replace with:
Night Spinner
WK
Warp Spiders

a 3rd Vehicle and a tougher & faster MC should give your opponents sufficient target priority headaches for his heavy weapons
I'd expect quite a few footsloggers to be in most lists (maybe not SM), so Night Spinner should prove very useful
Warp Spiders are just excellent
This gives you a very fast list where everything can move at least 12" or scout/infiltrate. Only unit on foot vulnerable to AP4 and down is your hawks
You'd still have 4 OS units, which should be enough.
You'd loose your AA, but if you're only going to be facing 1 flyer I'd be happy to live with that.

If there's any points left over, I'd consider bumping up your rangers -I'd expect to see quite a few prime targets for precision shots knocking around, as players will look to upgrade their favourite units rather than spending points on sub-optimals.

I'm liking the idea of the night spinner and spiders for monofilament fun.  I see your points on target priority as well and another tank hull will be a lot more survivable than the WW. 

However, I can take WWs as a squadron. Rules clarification came in. Single codex entry = "one"
IG/AM could be real tough with their codex.

well 3 WW supported by guide/presicence will, as always, be a very effective unit indeed -either in S6 mode or with BLs to deal with tank squadrons

Not sure what I'd drop to squeeze them in, though -probably the Hawks.
