Spool Towers - 40k Terrain
« on: May 22, 2016, 06:09:35 PM »

I operate a 3D printer. One of the "waste products" from 3D printing, at least for me, is black ABS spools. I've been eyeing those spools for a few months now, trying to find something interesting to do with it. I think I've got something with this.

So, looking for some feedback: should I look at permanently gluing the tower together? Or should I fabricate a central core so the towers can be mostly broken down (with caps for the top)? I know that I'll be doing most of the painting separately and then finishing. I think I can do pipes pretty easily.

Here's an idea of the... scale I can manage with this.

An alternative, is to flip two or three on their sides and make Void Shield generators a la Empire Strikes Back.

If you can't make fun of something, it's probably not worth taking seriously.

You have to love the smell of science in the morning. It smells of learning.... or perhaps a gas leak.

How bendable are they? I'm thinking you could cut the top large wheel and bend it down for a ramp to the next level.

I would consider having stack of 3-4..

You could take the top large rim off one, and the bottom rim of another one, stick the two inner cylinders together, then have some nice long support arms rising up from the outer rim....

Go for modular, i.e. keep them separate. That way you can change things up but swapping levels, and it should also make it easier to store.
