OK, i get the idea of the massive flanking strategy laid out in the codex, but what are some other effective strategies for CSM armies?

That depends ENTIRELY on your army and your style of play.

I'm asking for general strategies, not army specific stuff.  If it would help, include a rough army list and how you employ it.

Please elaborate, Kraf.

As for anyone else, like I've said, feel free to post an army list, and how you use that army.

Kraf, you wouldn't want to share your strategies with a spy on your back, would you? We are all over you!!  8)

2.3 obliterators.

Spoken like a truly great general.  The best always win without having to fight at all.

SPCFireDragon, here is the strategy that I usually employ in 1500 pt. games.
Basic army list: 1 beefy lord with a retinue of Berzerker Terminators (chainfists and combi-meltas), 3 Berzerker units in Rhinos, 1 unit of Raptors and either a Predator or Dreadnought.

The Berzerker Rhinos rush forward, moving towards enemy units that present themselves (foolish HTH units that dare to challenge me by placing themselves in the front, or cowardly gun units that sit behind cover). Upon arrival, I disembark and charge yelling, "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!". My Berzerkers then proceed to hack and slash their way to victory.

The Terminator unit deep strikes near any hard units (enemy HQ squads/retinues, powerful elite units) or heavy armor (Hammerheads, Land Raiders, Fire Prisms, etc.). The Raptor unit deep strikes near any heavy support units or other pesky annoyances (Dark Reapers, Devastators, Broadsides) and unloads plasma fire into them (3 plasma pistols and 1 plasma gun).

Both of those units then proceed to mop up and help out the Berzerkers finish off whatever is tied up in hand to hand combat.

The Predator finds a nice position and starts unloading heavy fire into units that it finds pleasing to destroy (whatever I find dangerous), although sometimes I trade out the Pred for the Dreadnought who is a risk but really fun to employ.

And there you have it.
