Destroyer Lord with magnetic weapon options
« on: July 7, 2006, 12:16:42 AM »
I'm sure I'm not the first to have thought of or to have tried this, but I thought I'd share my work with the Cron Heads on 40K online.  I've used magnets to allow me to switch back and forth between the weapons and wargear options that come in the D Lord box.

I used a 1/16" magnets and a 1/16" drill bit to make the seat for the magnets.  They are held in place with super glue.

Here are the arm options with the magnets in place.

Here are the weapon options (Scythe and SoL).

I had to use two magnets due to the extra weight.

Here are the two sides of the Destroyer.  You can see where I placed the magnets to coorespond to the magnets on the weapons.  You have to make sure you keep the + and - in mind or the magnets will repell the weapons instead of holding them.  I marked the one side of each magnet with a marker to keep things straight.

The other side only needed one magnet as the non-weapon arms are lighter and can be held in place with just one.

Here is the same D Lord model with different weapon and wargear configurations.

I plan on making another lord on foot and putting magnets in his arm sockets so they can share parts.  This was a very easy modification to the Destroyer Lord.  I was suprise how well things fit together.  As you can see from the pics, the magnets are almost invisible.  This will save us from having to buy extra models just to have different weapons configurations available.  Happy Modeling!

Nice - I'll have to study those pictures so that I know what kind of options you'll have in the coming campaign - heh.

The nice men in white coats have given me a nice room all to myself, it's very nice with its padded walls.  They even gave me a complimentary jacket.

This site sells rare earth magnets and just about any size you'd ever need.  I ordered 100 1/16" magnets for around $13.00 (with shipping).
