Nids Vs Guard
« on: February 1, 2018, 02:49:36 PM »
G'day forumites!
The Nids had their first game with their new dex last night. Actually got so court up in the event I forgot to take actual notes and step by step photos, (Those of you that have witnessed my photography are already sighing with relief).

Everybody is still building their new armies at the LGS so it's predominately 1000pt games.

These are the Kraken swarm. The guard had 2 Taurox transports, 4 units of 10 guardsmen littered with melter and plasma guns. Some HQ guy and a 5 maned unit with a flag.

The Nids went first. Advanced eeeverything up and the Trygon Prime emerged from his tunnel, with 15 termagants in tow within the Guards DZ. The "Hive Fleet Adaptations", (Army doctrines to the SM), of the Kraken, allows excellent mobility and speed..

1 unit of GS made it into combat with the 2 Taurox's just after the termagants lowered the wounds on 1 of them. The termagants also made it into combat with the rear of the transports, taking away their opportunity of falling back.
This was the result of the Nids first round.

This did, however, leave the rest of the Nids in the open and 3 units of Guardsmen deepstruck to take advantage of this.
..... Oh, snot!!

After a shocking round of shooting, the Swarmlord lost 2 from 12 wounds and the exposed Genestealers lost 2 of their number.

After that, the Swarmlord and above-mentioned Genestealers moved and charged the rest of the Guardsmen. The 2 units of Guardsmen and their HQ couldn't catch up or shoot into combat. The Nids took 2 rounds of wiping out 1 unit then consolidating into another.

The fourth round had the entire left flank of the Guard wiped out. The Nids turned to face the 2 remaining units still in their DZ and advanced toward them. 1 unit of Genestealers, of course, reached them both in 1 turn to pin them. The next round there was one Guardsman remaining when Greg conceded. The Nids lost 3 wounds from the Swarmlord and 7 Genestealers from the 2 units.

It would have been a different game if the Guard had gone first and if Greg had rolled better in his first turn. Also having two-thirds of his army huddled in the corner allowed the Nids to just swarm them. However, I cannot praise the Nids under the Kraken rule set enough.

Third game with the Nids and their first win. Thanks for popping in... Be well!!

Sounds like a fun chance to break out the tyranids! They're already looking good. The Guard player could have castled up better, but that's just something you learn, and of course it's different in larger points matches.

G'day, Blazinghand!
Your right of course. The next time the Nids are let loose I'm sure there will be better strategies to counter them.

Most people panic a little when facing Nids and leave a lot of the table barren for a clear line of sight on a predominantly close quarter army. Was counting on this to give the Genestealers clear access to whatever they wanted.

Thanks for popping in, mate... Be well!
