40konline 2016 Forum Awards
« on: February 17, 2017, 10:22:56 AM »
Okay everyone you should all have recovered from the Christmas pud and stuffing your face full of chocolates season by now so it is time to give your brains a workout.

Yes, it is time for the 2016 40konline Forum Awards (no award is available just the warm feeling of a job well done).

2016 eh, what a year? So many sad losses. We lost Spectral Arbor and Ebon Star. We also lost the forging machine that was Tangi. He became Captain Calamity and appears to have abandoned forging for the childish past time of playing AoS (#JOKE).  We also lost a lot of Local Mods that everyone had forgotten about. Perhaps the saddest loss of all was that of the youngster Grizzlykin. It is always worse when it is a young one that is lost to the ether.

Let’s all hang our heads for a few seconds in sad remembrance.

*pretends to rub dirt out of eye with a tissue* Right forget all that nonsense 2016 was awesome Projects coming out of our ears is what we had and a Brexit.  We also saw what can only be described as mind blowing stuff going on in the Conversion Forum.  The House That Khaine Built, AndreSTL’s scratch Built Dakka Jet or Ambience327’s GSC. Shame on you if you have no idea what I am on about.

The Eldar Forum had competitions and once again the Ork Forum showed promising signs of life.

What all of my rambling means is that it is now time for all of us to show our appreciation and give up some of our time to nominate the awesome people that make this site what it is and let them know how much they are appreciated.

As usual this thread is unofficial so nominate who you want for what you want.  Hell you can nominate two people for the same category if you want. Nominate yourself as well if you like.

One last thing please don’t forget that this is for the awesome people of 2016 and not 2017.

Don’t be shy, get nominating.

To get you all going my nominations are already in the table.

Best Painter:

Cavalier and Auric's Pride both need to get thrown into the mix. Phenomenal talents and incredibly engaging and helpful with it.

Nicest Member:

My wife just laughed out loud when she read that one. Seriously, there are definitely nicer posters out there, I've just hidden my true colours well ;P

For a start, Cav, AP, Ynnead are all incredibly engaging and polite and look to give help and advice wherever possible.

Best Modeller:

Ynneadwraith. He really arrived on the scene with a bang and some of the best conversion work that I've seen.

Sorry to anyone that I haven't mentioned, it comes from primarily lurking around the hobby boards  ;)

Cavalier is a big meany as he gets all shouty if you don't like painting.  ;D

Best Modeller:

Ynneadwraith. He really arrived on the scene with a bang and some of the best conversion work that I've seen.

You might be surprised to learn that Ynneadwraith didn't join the site until 23rd Dec 2016.

I'm nominated for Oddball?! O.o

Says the reigning Oddball. Five out of eight votes you got in 2015. There's no smoke without fire as they say.

For a change I struggled to nominate someone for the Eldar Poster category. The Eldar board is one of the busiest boards on here and unlike the rest of the boards had three pages of posts in 2016. The other thing that makes it difficult is all the blogs. It is hard to separate what is going on in the blogs from the general boards.
Because of all this I have nominated RX8speed and Fenris for Eldar Poster. RX because he was a posting fiend when every thing was quite back at the start of the year and Fenris just because he seems awesome when it comes to everything Eldar.

Technically, I was a Local Moderator and a Global Moderator in 2016, so it's probably allowed ;).

It would appear to me that only you and GML do any moderating so are there any active Local Moderators left? Saying that I have nominated Killersquid for best Local as whilst I can't remember the last time he did any moderating he is a really active and knowledgeable member of the site.

GML, myself, and Rummy handle the bulk of the moderation between the three of us.  The only locals are Killersquid, Lorizael, Changeyname, Kaiju, and Lonewolf.

It was only in 2014 that the Most Valuable Non-Staff Member was Wyddr and the Most Helpful was Irisado so I do not think it is a given that Cavalier will be Most Valuable and Helpful forever.

Quite right.
I was thinking they were synonyms in this context, but on reflection I can see how Wyddr's battle reports, for example, have a value beyond how helpful they are.

...Actually: Can I change my vote for most valuable from Cavalier to Wyddr? (Sorry, Cav!)

To be honest Volatilegaz it as a conscious effort on my part not to nominate Wyddr for most things. Hell I even think he gives GML a run for his money in the Rules category.

I always nominate with the old official rules at the back of my mind. That is, don't nominate anyone that won last year. I try not to nominate someone I have nominated over and over again.

As for Helpful and Valuable being synonymous I can sort of see your point but I don't really see value and help being too similar.

This year Wyddr has brought a new member to this site so that is more valuable than it is helpful. Valuable because this site needs new members. Also Wyddr's propensity for posting in a lot of different boards (Orks, Chaos, Tau) is also valuable as some of these boards would probably die without his input. Cavaliers prolific posting habits is also valuable because it drives content on this site which could attract passers-by. It really was a toss up on who to nominate.

On the other hand Cavalier is quick to offer painting advice and that is really helpful.

On the other other hand if there were a nomination for most helpful Eldar poster then I think that you would probably be high on everyone's list as I always find that you are quick to offer list advice.

Hi, everyone! Thanks for the support!

My own nominations:

Rules Expert: GML

Best Writer: I don't really dip into the Fiction boards really, so I'll abstain. If this qualifies for Battle Reports, then I'll nominate Killersquid, who often writes interesting bat reps.

Space Marine Poster of the Year: GML, even though it's only ever Dark Angels (nobody's perfect)

Necron Poster of the Year: This board is a tomb world, so I'll leave it off.

Tau Poster of the Year: I'm kinda the only person who ever posts in here. Love to have company. I'll throw in GrimSqueaker, since he's the only other person who ever pops in.

Ork Poster of the Year: Dog of War

Best Painter: Killersquid

Best Modeler: Ynneadwraith

Master Debater: Once watched Irisado debate politics for a week without getting angry. So, yeah, Irisado

General Awards

Best Global Mod: Irisado

Best Local Mod: Irisado

Most Valuable non-Staff Member: Auric's Pride is everywhere

Most Helpful Poster: Dog of War

Best Writer (Articles): Does that even happen anymore?

Funniest Member: Grim Squeaker

Strategic Excellence: Magic Juggler always has some cool ideas.

Nicest Member: Irisado (remember how I said he argued politics for a week without getting angry?)

Most Notorious: GML

Eldar Poster: Cavalier

Chaos Poster: Magic Juggler

Best Project Board Member: Cavalier - does he sleep? it's anyone's guess.
Best Modeler: OD from TV - scratch-built air force anyone?

Eldar Poster: volatilegaz - list building competitions!
Space Marine Poster: GML - who's up for a 10K point game?

Table is up to date

Thanks for the nods for ork poster.

Here's my nominations:
Best Project Board Member: Cavalier - does he sleep? it's anyone's guess.

There isn't a Best Project Board Member category so due to your "does he sleep" comment I put this down as a nomination for Most Likely to Become Part of His/Her Computer.
