"A word in your ear," post your experiance!
« on: April 28, 2006, 02:38:07 AM »
Hey gang, I am coming to the conclusion that I will field an Evesor over a Callidus assassin, however, that "Word in your ear" benefit does sound quite inticing!  So, I would like for everyone to post your experiance, or lack thereof, on how this little tid bit has benefited you and maybe I will be convinced to field one!  Please do not compare Evesor to Callidus as that is not what I am intending.

On a side note:  IMO the Vindicare sucks! :o  Ooops, did I say that out loud?

Anywho!!  Comment away!

Thanks!

Why's everybody gotta hate on the Vindicare?

But anyway, though I have yet to play a game, how I see it as very effective from reading battle reports and the like, there's always at least one vehicle or unit that is just outta LOS for your heavy guns, by like an inch, being behind a wall or something.  Well if you are gonna go first you just move that unit a little to one side and then blast away.

Alternatively the Callidus has that nice ability to show up anywhere, so what I'd do if option A is not pertanant, move a unit of their's outta of any their cover fire for that unit, then pop the Callidus down and hack away.

The 'Word in your Ear' movement of the opposition makes up for the fact that your reserve roll for her might come late!
- She can move a heavy weapon unit back or behind cover so they have to move and thus not shoot first turn.
- Can expose a unit to fire that was formerly out of LOS (Whirly,Damolcles or other vulnerable valuable unit)
- she moves a unit out of cover thereby removing a save i.e. rangers, scouts etc
- a unit you want to assault can be moved closer to you.  Death Cult Assassins can make effective use of this.
- you can move a unit that is good at assaulting that you do not want to engage anytime soon back 6'

BTW I LOVE the Vindicare but alas I can NOT defend the fact that he isn't worth the points as is!

That Vindicare assasin cannot catch a break can he. I'm sure if someone used him effectively in a game against you, you might change your mind.

As for Callidus, I've used her three times.

*First time I used her, I moved a rhino so we could shoot a Balalisk behind it. Turned out okay, we blew it's weapon off (unfortunetly the Chaos player doesn't know his own rules, so he grew back the weapon at the start of his turn). After that she came on, I forgot about her and she got killed :-X.

*Second game I moved a Broadside out into the open. Wasn't much I could do. She killed a whole Fire Warrior squad and soaked up quite a bit of firepower, so I was happy.

*3rd game, was in a Carnage match. She did very little. She died without killing anything.

Still, I'd choose her over the other assasins, her rules are just awesome. As for the Eversor, used him once and he owned :)

Thanks for your posts so far guys.

Please folks, I just want to know your scenario/situation where the Callidus has benefited or let you down in regards to the "Word in your ear."  I understand the tactics/benefits behind it.  Call me a visual person, very concrete indeed!

Draza hit it the nail on the head with his post.  Keep them coming guys!

Calidus and Inq. w Emperors Tarot is a good combination that I have used w great effect. In one game I won first turn due to the Tarot and used the 'Word in your Ear' ability of the Callidus to move a hidden Defiler (w indirect fire capabilty) out in the open.  He had another Defiler that was maxed out with Daemonic junk AV13 etc. So I was able to pop the indirect one with my regular GK Dread and popped the other Daemonic Defiler w my 'Blessed' Dread! So this speaks to her abilty as well as my Dreads.

In close combat she is better used against non cc specialist units, I like eating Dev squads and other similar units!
