The Dark Millenium Project
« on: March 20, 2005, 02:20:32 PM »
We are looking for participants for the Dark Millenium 2 Project, so if you'd like to participate, please anounce you rinterest.

Background:

Back when the game was still 2nd ed you had a set of core rules for the game. As players progressed, and people started looking for more detailed rules, they could get the Dark Millenium expansion set. This was a box that contained additional rules for the game, wargear cards, vehicle cards, psykic powers etc. It was great when it came out, it was a huge boost for those of us that wanted more from the game.

Concept:

We here at the online community start creating additional rules, ideas, missions and fluff for an expansion set. We start compiling more advanced rules, more options with the intention of creating more detailed games. Expansive rules for psychik powers, new damage tables for vehicles, alternative rules for movement, Armour saves and so on. Perhaps bringing back some wargear cards, (but less powerful and less easy to abuse). Create rules for making your own "special characters", own special units, rules for creating and customizing your own race and so on.

Taking inspiration from 2nd ed and looking at how they created Dark Millenium, and how it changed the game. Taking inspiration from Fantasy and specialist games to see if some of the rules there can be integrated and used for the project. Looking at the special rules for the armies might help us do all this. We need expertise from all races, people who are highly familiar with all 40K rules. We need playtesters, number crunchers, people who can do statistics and points calculations, and people who can write short stories and fluff. Alot of the material is already within different special rules of the various races.

We want a streamlined, easy to understand, easy to use end product. The idea is to create the perfect supplement for WH40K. It won't be easy, it will take alot of time, but I think we can do it.

Feel like joining up?

Requirements:

1. You need decent grammar and spelling skills. Your ideas are no better than your ability to explain them.
2. You need a firm grasp on the rules of the game.
3. You need to be willing to do research for your ideas, and be willing to playtest them.
4. You need to be open to other peoples ideas, we are not competing, we are a team.
5. If you have a history of previous bad behaviour on the forum, you will have to have a good reason for wanting to join.

That's it for now I think.

Applicant's should contact small_furry_spider, as he handles admissions to the project.

Go for it... but based upon the current information in the DM development board I'm somewhat doubtful, as with the other thread, that I can be of great use.  I can point you to other 'campaign systems' that are on the drawing board, though! :D

I'm willing to do the psychic powers section and how they function.

However I will need to know what statistics models have for instance will they be like inquistor with those sort of stats as i think that would be pretty cool.

Are we working at squad based level or whole armies?

Hello; I am new  ;D
Kage (I signed up ;)) pointed me over here from the Anargo Sector Project. I and a few other have been attempting to delevope a campaign system there. I am wondering if this is the sort of thing that you would be interested in for your own project. If so I am sure we would be happy to collaborate in this area.

@ Kaliban La Rousse

You are welcome to join us, but we aren't even close to the psychic phase yet. However, if you have some good ideas, work on them, and when the time is right, I'll create a thread for the psychic phase. It's one of the threads I'm looking forwards too. :)

We're talking about whole armies. It's a supplement to the core rules, additions and in some cases optional rules. It's going to be a complete compendium, with artwork and fluff eventually.

@ Rascal Leader

We would be very interested in cooperating with you guys for such a thing. And if Kage is your referance, you have very good credentials :) We are not currently working on the campaign part, as this project is still in it's genesis, more or less. But welcome aboard.

@ both of you

Please, when you gain access to the project, read the forum rules, the project status thread and announcements before posting. Familiarize yourselves with the current things we're working on. If you have any questions, PM me.

Good luck and welcome to the project. Glad to have you with us :)

@ Rasmus

Would you add them to the project please? Thanks :)

A PM will do nicely, you don't need to give a complete brief, just a simple example of what you are capable of.

@ Meneroth
We will need playtesters. But I'd like for you to give me an example of what you could contribute with, to make sure the quality of your work in up to par with the projects needs. Doesn't have to be complicated, just to give me an idea.

Cheers :)

The project has it's own board. Check back in a while, you should have access to it within a day. When you get the custom title "millenite" your officially a part of the project. Be patient. Remember to follow the instructions I gave you in the PM when you get access.

Cheers

I really want to help out with this and as an old Eldar veteren there are some great ideas i have that i would like to contribute.
Im not sure however, how this is to wor, are you going to do everything via the forum or PMs?

It seems more likely that the forum will work better, if soa re there any rules or things we should be adhering to to ensure that the "banter" is kept to a minimum?
Also, as ideas are approved and "set in concrete", how will the list be generated so we can all see a finished and compiled list of rules fluff etc?

Apart from this logisical issues, im very excited about this project.
COUNT ME IN !  ;D

The project has it's very own forum board, however, access to it is restricted, and only those I apporve gains access to it. To start off with, if you want to join the project, that's great. But I need to know you can deliver and add something useful to the project. What I need you do to, is present a random idea for something cool you would like to add 40K, I need well thought out rules, maybe some statistics on efficiency, well written with correct grammar.

Doesn't really matte what it is, it is more a test of you skills, to check the quality of your work.

When you have your idea ready, PM it to me, and I'll review it. If I like what I see, you become part of the project and gain access to the board.

Cheers
