Suicide, and it's impact.

Why do people do it? Can ones troubles really be so bad as to warrent suicide?

Do u think someone is a coward when they comit suicide, or do u think it takes a lot of bravery to go through with it?

It is a cowardly and cruel act. Everyone has their problems and sometimes people have very serious problems because of things like depression, skisophrenia and so on; but there are medications avalible etc.

I'm living proof that you can get through problems, it's never easy and a lot of the time you will think that you'd have been better off killing yourself; but when you finally claw your way out of the hole you'll look back and think how f*cking stupid the whole idea waas.

Well atleast that's what happened with me.

Suicide is the easy way out of a problem and only goes to show what an easy quitter the person in question is.

It's a very sad day when someone chooses to take the easy way out of a problem since it might be your friend, hell, you might have been able to help them sort things out, and sometimes all they really ever needed was a hug.

My advice to anyone with a problem and who is considering the easy way out is:

"Sh!t happens, get over it!"

The 'sh*t happens' piece would only be said by someone who has never accually had any serious problems in their lives.

As I said, it is f*cking hard and fhalf the time you'll feel better off dead; but in the end it is worth grinding through.

   Agreed. Anyone with a history of mental or social illness (well, "not well-ness" at least) can tell you that there is no such thing as "sucking it up" and "trying it again". You are bereft of strength and will to get better.
   Some mental disorders even manifest themselves through the self-destructive desires leading up to suicide. If these are not caught in time death invariably follows. The person is rarely strong enough to break the downward spiral themselves. Therapy and medication are needed.

Yes, a large percentage of suicides are the pinicle of a self-destructive peroid. So in effect the suicide itself 'begins' many months and sometimes years before the event accually takes place. These are things like cutting, burning, self-starvation and so on.

OK, But mental illness aside.

Has anyone ever known someone who did it.
I dont feel one can judge another for suicide as we have no idea what they were going through. Even if one says that they had problems of their own, we cant truly realise what their mental state was like.

well, i although its "euthenasia" - which is basically suicide in my view (choosing to end your own life) - i think if someone has a terminal illness and are going to suffer then they should have the option available to them. Now before someone jumps in with some god related argument - i will ask you to go and start a seperate related thread in the theology thread. This thread should be kept to stuff we can PROVE (ie: not faith based ideals).

but as with suicide - i think its all dependant on the circumstances, but most of the time i'd say it was 'wrong' (sorry - only word i could think to use for it).

Both my parents work on psychiatric wards (mental wards ;)) and for people, things CAN get that bad, and untill you've been that low, no-one can realy cast judgmemt.

Some basic information

Lithuania -- a country with about 3,5Milion people, and it's the first in the world by suicides. I have encountered it way to many times, once I thought about it and was about to do it, but didn't. Then like scars said, when I clawed my way up from all the amphetamine parrot I was in and recall my thoughts of suicide it was a really stupid idea. Now I have encountered suicide way to many times, 5 friends of mine have done it, and yes it is the cowardly or better yet, stupid way out of trouble.

In my english group at colege, one of my friends took an overdose 3 times (shes still with us thank god!).
