what if.........new tryanids?

this is what would happen if the next genretion of tyranids got loose my idea is an electric gun for tanks of the imperium that fire an electric charge that uses the big template for explosions plz tell me if this is a bad idea

Well, it's interesting to say the least. The question is, is this an idea for a story or fluff, or is it an idea for a new weapon/VDR tank for the game? If it's about the game, let me know and I'll move it to the appropriate board. If it's a story idea, please develope it more so we could at least have more to discuss with you. Let me know.

Cool idea. I've been thinking for a while now of doing some new stuff for Tyranids. Since there's no MCDR it would certainly be tricky, but whipping up rules for some funkyriffic new weaponry would certainly be interesting

Just out of curiosity, how would an electric shell hurt a Tyranid? It would only work on vehicles, maybe SM's.

I have nothing against the idea, i wouldn't use the template though, i'd have it hit one model and then be able to hit up to 2-3 more if within X inches to represent it arcing.  I think the skaven doomwheel has/had a rule like that.  Personally i don't see how a shell would give an effect like an explosion, unless it was a power generator that you lob into the enemy and it then starts discharging...

thats acutally what i meant cuz i saw a move that had giant smarst bugs like tyranids and they had cannons that shot electric charges that stuck to and enemy and procedded to shock one more bug and more still until the bugs where a hulking mass on black chared carapace like armour

well electricity will generally hurt anything, even Nids. it would be quite effective to start with, but providing the fleet survives it WILL adapt to the electricity blast etc, and if it meets with other swarms....well say goodbye to that attack...

but the charges are either bombs bullets or grenades that stick but i suppose they would adapt if they absorbed the tech

Not quite as flexible as what I had in mind, since I wanted to make them explicitly Tyranid. I don't think they can get Tyranid guns from the CF

Seeing the Eldar gets their Prism Tank capability increased, so I thought why not give the Lascannon something extra too.

Like, if 3 Lascannons firing at the same target, the fire power would condense enough for a small explosion -- small blast template. When there is 5 or more Lascannon hitting the same target then it would create a larget blast. Small blast template is only 1.5" in radius and normally is enough to cover 3 and partial a couple more models in a tight formation, or at least cover 2 and partial 2 more... it gives the imperium some new firing option for they to consider taking more lascannons than missile launchers.  ;D

would that be using the same stats as the lascannon itself? i'd think that the dissapation would weaken the blast to perhaps the strength of a normal warp blast, maybe less potent. other wise it makes sense. again, what about against vehicles?

I'm not sure that this would work realistically.  The fire prizm is a little sketchy, too, but at least on a vehicle it would be possible to slave all the cannons to the primary tank and fire at once at the same point.

I wonder if it's possible to create a point value for each stat so as to make a custom MC generator.  So many points for so much T, S, WS, etc.  Then convert the VDR weapons rules to Tyranid weapons.  Alternatively, you could make a Tyranid with an armor value using the VDR rules.
