I played the following army against Salamanders tonight - my first 40K game in 9 months. I got hammered.
HQ: Farseer (163) - mind war, fortune, guide, singing spear, spirit stones
Elites:
A. 4 Warp Spiders + Exarch (162) - Exarch had Powerblades and an extra death spinner + withdraw
B. 9 Banshees + Exarch (189) - Exarch with Executioner and acrobatic
Troops:
A. 5 Guardian Storms + Warlock (109) - 2 Fusion gun upgrades and Warlock with conceal and witchblade
B. 9 guardian defenders + Warlock + Starcannon platform (190) - Warlock with Singing Spear and Conceal
C. 3 Rangers (57)
Heavy Spt:
A. 1 Wraithlord with Starcannon (120)
B. 3 War Walkers each with scatter laser and bright lance (270)
C. 4 Dark Reapers plus Exarch (238) - Exarch with crack shot, fast shot and Shuriken cannon.
Total 1498
-------------
The farseer had some success with the mind war and fortune, but was useless once attacked in close combat. Spirit stones were a good idea.
The warp spiders didn't do much. neither did the guardian defenders.
The banshees got assaulted by a dreadnaught (see my other post) and were slaughtered.
The dark reapers were great until singled out and annhilated by the land raider. The Exarch was useless as he was always out of range. Maybe a missile launcher?
The storm guardians were great - killed a land raider with their haywire grenades. well worth it.
The wraithlord and war walkers were destroyed on the FIRST TURN, before I even had a chance to move them. Being open-topped, the walkers fell to a whirlwind. The wraithlord was sniped by scouts. have to watch out for those sniper rifles.
The rangers did nothing as they were screened by the land raider and assaulted by terminators.
-------------
All in all I think I need to be more mobile. The walkers seem a waste of points that may be better spent on wave serpents for my banshees and storm guardians.
Any comments?
