I stand corrected
« on: November 12, 2015, 12:24:59 AM »
I had put my DE up some time ago since the rules had been cruel to them. So, tonight I brushed off the dust and fielded them in a 2k army against Deathwing. The game ended in a draw as far as TO's are concerned but still had a very functional army left on turn 5 with my friends army down to 4 models. I a m still reeling from the fact I was sure to lose and didn't. One more turn and I would have secured a major slaughter. So I stand corrected and now believe the DE can be fun to field and somewhat formidable.

I really feel that people heralding the "death" of various armies (DE, Orks, CSM, IG, etc) have been premature. Most of it depends on local meta game and the kind of game you're playing. No doubt the DE are in deep trouble in a cutthroat tourney environment, but they *can* work just fine in most casual gaming environments.

Out of curiosity, what kind of list did you run?

There are always people, most of whom play in that sort of 'top tier' tournament environment you've described, who herald the end of a particular army as a result of the change in the rules.  I've seen it time and again.  They tend to have the loudest voices on the internet too, so they receive quite a bit of attention.  In my view, they're always reacting prematurely and overreacting as well.  I can well believe that this has been the case with Dark Eldar.

I suspect that the impact on Dark Eldar just appears greater because there are fewer Dark Eldar players relative to quite a few other armies, so the loss of Dark Eldar players is likely to be more noticeable.  I'm sure it's still a viable army when put together well and used with some skill.

Out of interest Dread when the rules changed did you start losing games or did you just read the rules (and the resulting internet moaning) and come to the conclusion that the DE had been nerfed?

Thanks all.

Wyddr, I have an archon with agoniser, armor of misery, shadow field running with
6 incubi in a raider with night shields and dark lance
5x 10 warriors with blaster on raiders, 4 DL & 1 dizzy
2 razorwings night shield, splinter cannon
1 void raven dual missile load out
2 ravagers one with 3 dizzies one with 3 DL
Thats the list. Will make a couple alterations for next game.

Well Alienscar it was the first, losing all games terribly. Then new dex got stripped and I read what I needed in there a and felt like it was pointless to try playing them

im running a very simple list
anti - inft / mc           6 x twin cannon venoms with 5 kabz [1 blaster]
anti cc / anti camper  2x 6 reavers with 2 caltrops
anti-tank                    2 archons with blasters and portals in raiders[DL / shields] with blasterborn [4 blasters / 2 x DL / 1 redshirt]

the increase in 'power from pain' each round is incredibly useful and if youre lucky and get the extra T on the bikes ... wonderful
