I really like the weathered look on the metal.
How do you manage that?

Lovely models, keep m coming
Torture first, then you talk. It's better that way.

The metal is done really simply. So simply in fact it's making me want to have another pop at Iron Warriors or Necrons!

I start out with Boltgun Metal applied messily, like a heavy drybrush. Then I slap on Devlan Mud. (And then I go over again with maybe a little Boltgun if the wash was too heavy.) Then Chainmail, then Skull White. If it's a big expanse of metal, I might look at Mythril Silver in between the Chainmail and Skull White. If it's nothing but metal I look at other slight washes, but generally you can't go wtong with the above simple formula.

And now, as if by magic, I have yet ANOTHER model done!!! It's that sneaky Skaven skumbag, the bane to all mild mannered Talisman questers!

One of these days I'm gonna get back to a real paintjob. You know, an army of some kind. One to take the place of my beloved retired Necrons. Otherwise it's gonna be an even shorter tournament circuit this coming year than 2008/09.

I would like to compliment you on cranking out very high quality models. I wish I could do the same. Your consistency and style are the same regardless of what you are painting. I applaud you.

Your ability to blend on skin-tones and terrain is just...let's say I would have a harder time to achieve on a consistent basis.

Thanks for all the kind words.

As far as secrets, I have many. Mostly kept from my girlfriend!  ;)

Two things I've realised since posting on the forum is 1) blogging my FINISHED models has made me up my work rate and instead of sitting on my ass watching TV and playing Xbox, I'm painting a lot more than what I've ever consistently done before. Getting a finished model on this forum is such a sense of achievement. I'm probably painting/or making for 6 -8 hours a day now and don't want to have as much half finished/barely started junk lying around.

2) Working this way and also on random models, not an army, is teaching me more and more about colours and blending. When you paint an army, such as my infamous over the top Necrons, is that once you have one model done; colours sorted out; details created; bases made, you then simply copy and repeat that over and over, adapting for different unit types, but fundamentally not really doing anything different. Painting up one off models means you can try stuff. Each greenskin I do, I try a different set of greens. I'm trying different coloured washes for areas I wouldn't normally think. I'm mixing colours together for no reason but to try and avoid the old recognisable schemes.

Put simply, I'm kinda at the point where I'm prepared to have more fun painting, then pressurize myself into getting armies done for tounament or other event deadlines. Having said that, my next painting blog that'll probably be up next week is actually gonna be an army! Ho hum.

As far as these Talisman models go, I only got to play with the Dark Elf tonight, so I still have 2 weeks of gaming before I must have something new.

Those models are beautifully painted, and that you can do them in such short times is simply amazing....

Personally I had never heard of Talisman, but you have me intrigued - So many GW games, I thought that I knew them all, but again there is a new one.

Pity to see that they have cut nicodemus from the range, mordheim is a personal favorite - For the story of nicodemus, he was that tall because he wished to be the biggest wizard in the old world or something, and the wish went wrong...
