Title: helghast army
Post by: Commisar Vlanse on March 10, 2009, 07:14:28 PM
Hey yall. Since killzone 2 came out ive been CA-RAZZY about the helghast. Anyways i would like to put them for either stormies or  armoured fist. I already made a greensuff head but its crap. So I ask easy ways to get helmets an any tips on body/head/weapons. Thanks in advance!

Meh, I prefer Gears of War...

If you have the cash, the Death Korps on Forgeworld look plenty like Helghast to me.

Gears is the better game I must agree.

As for the heads, look around on various sites, Pig Iron one I can think of at the moment, another is Westwind productions, It's cheaper than Forgeworld.

pig iron products are very reasonably priced, i will also recomend the heads that can be found there, although maybe a combination of gw plastics, pig iron, and forgeworld are the way to go.

as for the games, im going to have to cast my vote for halo.  i like all three better than i like either the gears of war of killzone games.

<Prefers, Killzone>

Anyway, deathkorps troops have the feel of a helghast army, Probalem is the uniform.

Elysians Droop troops/Harokoni War Hawks have the feel of a Helghast army, fast rope descents from VTOL aircraft and breathing masks.  Problem with this is the goggles. You ideally need the two round lenses and not the screens, also the weapons don't have the same feel as a hellghast gun, much closer to a ISA assault rifle... what with the single shot under slug grenade launcher...

Frag, I may have just convinced myself to do a ISA army with Elysians.....

the pig iron kolony heads are probably the closest thing you are going to find, premade.  they look really nice on the cadian body.  That would be my suggestion to start.  the cadian can be hacked up to look like a lot of things.  just takes a little imagination.

here are a few of my guardsmen using the pig iron heads.

hope these are some inspiration to yeah.  Grey and black fatigues and armor.  Red eyes lenses.  maybe a tube or two.  should have some pretty convincing helghast.

To do the Helghan army well, you NEED to nail the helmets. Death korps, while having trench coats, at just too thin and not bulky enough to be helghast troops, and more importantly, have completely the wrong gas masks and helmets.

Westwind Wehrmacht SHS (http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/catalog/index.php?cPath=130_178) would look quite close, with some use of greenstuff to modify the face to have gasmasks. They are not prefect though.

Another area of work needs to be the weapons. The STA:52 is a bullpup assault rifle, with a linear cylinder magazine, completely different to the lasgun. Cutting down the barrel, removing the magazine and placing it behind the elbow, and adding a carryhandle sight will go some way to correcting the issue.

Drop troops isn't really the IG style, I would go with mechanised, or at least a high proportion of APCs. They do have dropships, but they don't seem to be used any more than the ISA, and they are definately not an airborne assault force like the elsyian drop troops.

I'd disagree with the not a drop force comment, but elysians are more focused on the air assualt issue. Of course the hover tanks that helgans have would make execellant chimera variants.

The DKoK would be your best bet imho. Greenstuff some carapace armor on them and you're all set.

That is a good effort at a helgan. It could have been done a lot better, but its inspiring at least.

I was working on the same project but put it on the ice. Making a greenstuff head is really difficult and would require more skill that the average mortal have. My main idea for the moment is to use the steel helmet of the Pig Iron colony miltia, the rebretor from a Storm trooper and some googles from an other model.

I'm actually waiting to see the plastic storm trooper to restart this project and hoping they'll have many usefull parts. For the moment, I found an interesting head set from west wind that I'll perhaps use (modify the gas mask and use the googles perhaps) http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/catalog/popup_image.php?pID=1140

Yeah, that would work great. But... plastic stormies? What have i missed! New codex , different thing ever day. On topic now. Yeah just greenstuff the goggles so that the goggles are a bit more set back.

As I say, if you've no real skills in GS (like me!), avoid it. I'm sticking to mix parts of different heads and casting the final product to use for the whole army.
