Perhaps, but we're the best up north, because we are still just north enough to be called 'northerners', yet we get (relatively) nice warm weather, unlike you lot, Rainy McRainpants of the rain brigade.

I swear, when I went to Scotland if you weren't in a city, you were in a marshland or mountian range. Both very very wet. And grey. And cold.

Oh my Scottish friend, you weren't reading my posts right. I don't deny that you're not more 'up north' than me; but that my northness must be hailed more because I get less rain. Of course, this is an elaborate plot to wind you Scots up, which it seems to have done, so thats one more thing to hail 'The true North' about.
(Insert winky smiley face here.)

And I'm not a Southener by Scottish accounts, because that would mean that I lived in the South of Scotland, but I note that you said:
Quote
u are from the south...of scotland that is
which is correct, so I won't touch that. Though it appears the spelling lessons they are teaching you in Scotland must be going downhill.

Dear God, Preston is my nearest GW too! Rubbish there isn't it? If you ever want a change, come to Blackburn on a Saturday, there's a nice store called the Bat Cave about there which acts as my lair, its about ten miles away from your little province. Ish. Yay the great and story stealing Seer Fox lives near me ;D. And yes the Preston GW is very small and crap. Were abouts is the Bat Cave? Is it in the centre or on the outskirts? What be your real name in case no one knows anyone called the Eldar Guy? You wouldnt happen to be called Steven Fox would you, a person who went to my high school was called that and he played 40K...

OH OH OH!!!!! I do i do i do! Im in Salford (just off the east lancs). I used to live in Watford (north of London) but came up here for uni. Finished now so im just loitering till June when i move to Shropshire for a new job.

I havent played in about 5-6 years and i cant afford to invest in a new army, so i'm brushing up on my miliatary tactics before i start. So i can wipe the floor with the kids at my local, with what little eldar i have from the good old days.

I live just outside Glasgow. GW Glasgow is my nearest store, although as I've previously said the staff ARE a mixed bunch.

I can get to Edinburgh just as easily though (Bus).

I didn't think Edinburgh had any neds. Guess I was wrong.

English and proud of it!!! Although I happen to be living in wales at this moment in time...

At the moment I live in pmebrokeshire, but in september/october time I will be going to uni in either Bath or Bristol, If anyone from those areas wants to contact me I can be reached at this email address: Elaiththeserpant@trust-me.com.  It would be nice to be able to meet up with you fine fellows for a game sometime, and if anybodies interested I will be going to the fantasy doubles tournament in Nottinham in July.

Also as this seems to be a reoccuring theme, my nearest GW store is in swansea, but my nearest retailer is... (Wait for it)... MY HOUSE!!! My Mum and Dad run a shop called Dragon Alley, which stocks gifts and gaming supplies.  If your interested check out www.dragonalley.co.uk (http://www.dragonalley.co.uk)

Hey there,

Canadian living in South London (Tooting Bec). I'm actually looking for a group to play 40K, and when I get my Ogres up running, some WHFB.

Preferably some older players (in the 25+ neighborhood) - anyone up for it, or know of some decent clubs to play at in the London area?

Thanks guys and have fun!  8) :D

I hate the welsh altho you did play pretty well today against us.  grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.  Scotland however well done you really did give france the run around.  Best you've played in ages.  Ireland easily have the best chance of winning this years competition i expect.  Hmmmm  Englands wooden spoon chances?  After today's preformance not unlikely.  What say you people of the four nations?
Title: Re: UK?
Post by: deusmex on February 6, 2005, 05:36:46 AM
Hmmmmmm just checked the Scotland score and we got beat. You had my hopes up there for a second I thought wed won. I only ever pay attention to rugby when Scotland play England and even then its just to check the score (ie how much we lost by in recent living memory) . I hate the game with a passion after being made to play it at school in the Winter. Summer it seems is for indoor circuit training at my old school.
Anyhoo for those that dont have painful memories of rugby  , well done to the Welsh , Hard lines to us and the auld enemy and good luck to the Irish.
On a side note Im still mystified as to why France and Italy wanted in on our little 4 nation hatefest. I suppose it gives us the chance to hate other nations as well as our own tho.

I'm also in Yorkshire, over in Hull.  Glad to see there are others in the area!

There's a local GW store in town, but I hardly ever go there any more.  I've played 3e and I'm not that impressed, I prefer the original Rogue Trader (but that's probably because I'm an old fart who still remembers when 40K first came out).

I have old beakie Marines, far too many of the original Orks, and even a good collection of Stunties.  And I still haven't painted them all ;D

I live in a pleasant town called SBoy Snide's Outrageously Shiny Leather and PVC clad Soul Trainhorpe. It forms a crack/teenage preganacy triangle with hull and doncaster. nice  In fact the area i live in is quite similar to moss side. The biggest importer of crack and heroin in North Lincolnshire lived 2 streets up from me..........until he was incarcerated a year ago!!!!

As such in term time i choose to party in the pleasant city of York. Much more serene and far less risk of injury if walking alone at night. I dread the thought of graduation!

There was talk of the possibility of an EO Tourny a couple of pages back, its not actually that impossible, Warseer/Portent manages it (now under the guise of the Carnage Tournament run by a guy by the username of Lavfuris), so I understand has Dystartes, if someone was prepared to organise the thing I'd bet it could easily be done.

And there you meet the problem, also with the whole under18 problem. You'd (whoever) have to get enough intrest to make the hiring of tables/hall worth it, and make sure that people are legally allowed to be there, with or without parents...
Title: Re: UK?
Post by: Col.Gravis on August 2, 2005, 04:27:55 PM
Tis a fair point, though I'm sure there'd be enough over-18's to make it viable, but yeah, it does need someone who's got the time an drive to organise the thing lol, thats the hardest part really IMHO

The problem also lies in how far you have to travel. ATM I'm not 18, and so will have the problem of not being able to travel alone. Even when I go to uni, its most likely going to be southampton... Even further away than now.

Ho hum...

Look, perhaps the chappies at SELWG
www.salute.co.uk - from memory
They may be willing to have a few tables at the SELWG show in October, that way it has good rail links etc.

BTW - despite being under 18, I should have my liscence by January

That would be a realistic option?

Well I have my test on monday....

The problem still lies in living. I believe you have to be 18 to order a hotel room?
Title: Re: UK?
Post by: Fishy on August 3, 2005, 03:21:30 AM
You may be right there, plus if anybody under 18 got lost/hurt in some way on their way there and back from this, who is responsible?

As well as this, youd probably have to charge money to cover costs and ensure people would actually turn up, and that opens a whle can of administrative worms.

Perhaps they could come in by train and leave by train - the cheap sleeper tickets to the north are still available when I last checked, and the gamers could come and go by train - easy and quick.

I've done it before on the tube straight after 9/11 as long as you do not resemble any of the people the police may wish to question, and are willing to explain what is in your rucksack and cases its ok.
If asked or challenged tell the truth.

Just put everything in a sports bag thats what i do. As long as you don't look suspicious. Although i do look like a maniac with my shaved head and hoody on. I don't use carrying cases anymore i use file boxes filled with foam much better. Anyway can we get back to organising something i haven't played a good game for a while. If you feel that you can't get on a train we can all meet up in London for example and take the train together.

*chuckle* I regularly (ell at Tourny times) go up from Exeter to Nottingham by train lugging 1 or 2 Cases and a rucksack with me lol
Title: Re: UK?
Post by: Fishy on August 4, 2005, 11:04:42 AM
Yeah, the problem doesnt lie there fortunately. Ive been stopped before for carrying a black GW case not long after 9/11, and when told it carried models (essentially, toy soldiers) for some reason they demanded to search it  ::)

The issue is with how far away people are - and sleeping overnight somewhere possibly.

Speaking of train situations, I was in cardiff today, and I was there when 10 policemen armed with MP5s stopped and frisked a guy looking suspicious in a car.... Very cool and exciting....

I've been reading this 'Meet' for a while... (should be in a separate thread)
And it does sound quite interesting.... Currently.... where would this take place?... as long as its not too far from Newcastle Upon Tyne.... i may be able to attend such a thing.

EDIT: Newcastle is a good place... The new GW store in the city is next to a hotel... and is about 5 minutes from a train station... and it has a battle bunker (which is actually the first floor)! making approx. 8 gaming tables..

Not a bad idea, we have a mini tournament - everyone pays 'x' amount to enter and whoever wins gets 'x' amount of stuff
When do you think - December is good for me, and time to get the £19 1st class train tickets lol.

What's going to happen, is it costing more than a landraider to travel, and becuase of the amount of people, it costing the price of a terminators box, with no real prize...
Title: Re: UK?
Post by: Fishy on August 4, 2005, 05:57:18 PM
Though Nottingham would be better for sheer number of tables, no idea how much it would cost at either venue. If it were only a few people, you'd not need all of a large place perhaps, and so cost reduced?

Perhaps a different thread is neccessary for such a discussion, with people remembering that there is no specfic saying that such an event will actually occur.

EDIT: made a new thread for this at http://www.40konline.com/index.php/topic,94559.0.html. Obviously will lock it if people disagree with it being made, but did seem like we were drifting off the original point of this thread.

Weston-Super-Mare

Really? I'm in Yatton . . . just down the road from W-S-M and with the same phone dialling code!

I was on the board today looking for a post (or planning on putting my own up) asking for opponenents in my area. I VERY occasionally game at GW Bristol, but often don't have the time. I know there's a games club at Portishead which isnt far away, but my wife works on the night they meet so that's that ruled out!

Anyone here from the Yatton / Cleeve / Congresbury / Nailsea / Backwell area (small towns / villages near Bristol)? I need a games club or opponent I can walk or catch the bus to!

OK, that just made it worth it. Better idea though would be to meet at Salute (OK, mostly for any HORDES previews but it is a decent venue). That way the meet-up costs nothing and we get to wander round a great big con.

Newmarket's closer to Lolworth than Huntingdon I think, about 32 km/20 miles.

I wonder if there's a GW store in Newmarket, or does Bonesinger Bladewind go to Cambridge or even visit nugaming.co.uk or miniature madness (discount online stores) to get his minis?

I heard GW closed for other reasons, not sure though.
