Vehicle Army help.
« on: April 20, 2008, 10:00:56 PM »
I am just about to begin making my second army, and I wanted it to be different than my Chaos army.  My Chaos army is troop heavy with no vehicles, so for my marine army i want to do it with alot of vehicles, dreadnoughts, rhinos, bikes, etc.  I dont want any marines to start out on the battlefield on foot.  I was wandering if someone would give me afew ideas, and I also wanted to know how many Rhinos I should have to make an efective rhino rush.

Mech armies will improve in the upcoming 5th edition because units disembarking from a destroyed transport are no longer entangled; they have to make a pinning test.

A mech army should have a core consisting of Rhino squads (7 or 9 Marines w/ melta, Vet Serg w/ power fist, Rhino w/ armour, smoke).
At the 1500 pts level, take 3 to 4 Rhino squads.
As an HQ, take a Master so that the whole army benefits from ld 10.
The Rhinos should be accompanied by Predators and Tornados as this will dilute enemy shooting.

Rhinos, being ridiculously cheap, also make good walls.

Just drive them up, turn them sideways and huddle your infantry behind them (or on top once they're destroyed).

Dreadnoughts are also pretty awesome if what I've seen of the new rules is true. With a plasmacannon and dreadnought ccw, they're going to be a force to be reckoned with.
...These dregs comprise the most vicious, ill-tempered and unstable group of psychopaths and killers in the Imperial Guard.

If you go HR Giger style let the gun come out of a Vagina like slit and tubes that look like alien penises, HR Giger put always lots of those drawings

Have you no form of decency Jehan?

Playing with a few ideas I came up with this 2000 pt Army.

HQ
Chaplain in Terminator Armor
with 5 Assault Terminators 1 with a thunder hammer the rest with lightning claws.
All of them in a Crusader

Elite
2 Dreadnoughts with Assault Cannons 1 being Venerable

Troops
4x6 Man Squads with True Grit a Melta Gun and a Sargent with a powerfist
2 Squads in Rhinos
2 Squads in Razorbacks with Heavy Bolters

Fast Attack
Landspeeder with Multi Melta

Heavy
Predator Tank with Twin Linked Lascannon and Side Sponsored Heavy Bolters
Whirlwind dropping mine fields to force the enemy where I want them to go.

This does not include all the upgrades I am giving them.  This army will probably not do that well, but it will be fun to play.

I have already decided a color scheme of Orange and Black, I plan to paint them like my favorite baseball team the Baltimore Orioles and using the paint simulator on GW British website I found that that paint scheme actually makes them look pretty good, I just need to think of a good Chapter name for the army.

Keep the Razorback squads purely shooty by giving them plasma guns dropping true grit and use the freed points to beef up the Rhino squads.

Just a one-hit wonder. A Tornado is better, also better for tank hunting.
