BT Crusaders question
« on: May 17, 2011, 01:21:23 PM »
I was looking through most of the BT army list and most people get ccw w/ bp for all there squads...why is that?I mean wouldn't most people want the shots from the bolter or am I missing something? Also why do some people put in lets say 10 initiates and 2 or 3 neophytes.. wouldnt they loose most of there transport options?  Just stating BT so any helpful advice would help too.

Templars are a close combat force, so maximising that potential with B&CCW is the best choice, as they can fire and charge, essentially netting 4 attacks for that assault phase.

In regards to the Neos, with Righteous Zeal sacrificing 3 cheap Neophytes to fly across the board with the bonus move is a decent alternative to the Templars' currently overpriced transports.

Templars want to be in combat, equipping your main squads with bolt pistols and chainswords maximises their combat abilities, easy enough. I do usually run a couple of min sized Crusader squads with las/plas and bolters, but their job is simply to sit on objectives and annoy enemy vehicles.

As Raktra says, a few Neophytes in a large footslogging squad are basically free movement generators. Pop a plasma gun would on one, watch is face melt and potentially gain that squad another 6" move. Hell, stick a Chaplain with a few Cenobytes in there as well and you've got decent odds of getting a free 9" move for the price of a single Neophyte.

One other thing you could do with Neophytes is run a 10 man squad of Crusaders and add 10 Neophytes to the squad ;D. This will attract a lot of blast templates away from the rest of your army. Whether they survive or not is a win in my book. If they survive, what little you have can harass enemy long range support and delay that unit from shooting for maybe a turn or two.
