Title: Size of your Space Marine forces
Post by: Heir of Dorn on July 30, 2010, 06:59:49 AM
This thread is supposed to gather all of our user's army sizes, in an attempt to see how much points/models we can get to together. This thread will be stickied.

There is a similar post on the General 40K board - http://www.40konline.com/index.php?topic=137667.0 (http://www.40konline.com/index.php?topic=137667.0) - however, this post is only for Space Marine armies (although any official variation is of course allowed, such as Blood Angels or Space Wolves).

Please post according to this template:

Army name:
Codex:
Total points:
Total models:
Painted points:
Painted models:

A few rules/guidelines:

Only one post per participating member - this will help me keeping track. When you update your army, please send me a PM or I can't promise I'll take your army into consideration - if there's 10 pages and your army on page 4 gets an update - I might not notice! By the way, you've probably noticed me not being a mod, so all moderation is in their hands. Vehicles/walkers/special characters - ANYTHING - counts as one model and one model only. This is to keep it simple! All points should be calculated roughly from how much each unit cost when used (I myself included my usual upgrades, all of it taken from memory since I don't have my 'dex with me). Also, % values are derived from unpainted models only, for simplicity. :)

Ideas or suggestions for the thread is probably better off if you send them as PM's to me.

Here's the tally (let's hope it grows!)

Number of armies listed: 16

Total points: 139545

Total models: 3109

Painted points: 75251

Painted models:  2094

Points Vanilla: 95931

Points Blood Angels: 10833

Points Space Wolves: 13281

Points Dark Angels: 19700

Points Black Templars: 0

% of points Vanilla: 72 %

% of points Blood Angels: 7 %

% of points Space Wolves: 9 %

% of points Dark Angels: 12 %

% of points Black Templars: 0 %

Update 2010-08-01: Added points total for the different Chapters. Go BT! Isn't anyone playing them?

Update 2010-08-23: If the percentages at some points won't add up to exactly 100 % as they should, this is because of sloppy rounding up on my part. I calculate everything on here using my windows calculator, but I'm planning to some day integrate it into one, single, cool excel document ;)

Update 2011-02-22: Guys! It's kind of hard to sum all your armies up if you edit your posts. Did an overhaul today on the points values and added all the new armies. Sorry for being sluggish, not in here very often these days. I want to get back to the hobby, but final semester in college and lots of work too so as it is now, it's hard :/ Keep up the nice work!

Very nice work everyone! This is great fun :) Please remember to PM me if you update your lists with more painted minis/more bought minis or whatever. I can't keep track with everyone otherwise!

Also... a few question @ people:

@ Ludo: How can you have more painted models than your total? Or do you mean total as unpainted? Please be more express :)

@ Lomandalis: Dark Angels? Do they have a Codex of their own? I know they had one back in 3rd, but what about now? If they have their own, official rules, then I'll add a slot of their own. That's my own little criteria =)

Also, please mention others. According to GW's homepage the only ones that are treated as seperate lists are BA and SW, and ofc 'nilla. (: cheers!

They list it that way because they are the old codicies, while the SW and BA are new.  In the past, they were all listed under the same tab

11 land raiders makes up a lot of points with mor termies that can fit in them, 3 titans made up a lot of points too. remember the 18000 was stretching my characters so they had some spam on them as it almost every upgrade possible without conflicting another rule ei my commander does not have a power weapon, power fist, relict blade and the rest of the weapons but they all had melta and such. its not hard to make a base 350point tac unit without a transport. would i bring my list to tournament, absolutly not unless i bought more models and actually made a thoughtout army list.

The plan is to expand to a full Company of Angels. I've already got 30 Tacticals, 10 Devs and 10 Assault Marines, and Command Squad, so I'm halfway there. After that, it'll be to bump the Ravenwing (1500) and Deathwing (1000) to 2K each.

I have a mixed collection of Space Wolves and Space Marines :D

Army list(s) break down as follows;

Space Marines:
1x Chapter Master
1x Captain
1x Dreadnought
1x Assault Squad
2x Terminator Squads (Storm Bolters and Power Fists)
1x Terminator Squad (Heavy Flamer, Assault Cannon, Cyclone missile launcher, Chainfists) [I like to Deepstrike these guys right behind enemy vehicles or tough units and then use overwhelming firepower to slaughter them before the Assault Squad drops in and butchers them in close combat)
4x Tactical Squads (2x Plasma Pistols, 2x Heavy Flamers, 2x Rocket Launchers [Forgot the name], generally fight in 10-man squads so that I can confidently hold objectives and neutralize enemy attacks with heavy fire power)

Space Wolves:
2x Blood Claws (8- men)
Canus Wolfborn
Lukas the trickster
Arjac Rockfist
Wolf Guard terminators (Assault cannon, heavy flamer)

I'm not sure on the points values (haven't been able to get the new codex's since the local shop closed down.

I like to use the Space Wolves against Tau/Imperial Guard forces since Canus, Arjac and Lukas have a couple tricks up their sleeves and the Wolf Guard terminators can be broken up to lead the Blood Claws, adding some serious close combat hitting power.

The Space Marines are generally employed against Eldar, Dark Eldar, Necron, Tyranid and Imperial Guard armies. The tactical squads add weight of firepower to the initial attacks, the dreadnought (in a Drop Pod) strikes onto my opponents strongest side with a Terminator Squad dropping in beside them and pinning down the heaviest troops, another Terminator Squad [With autocannon and missile launcher] drops into the rear of the enemy and uses their heavy firepower to tear chunks out of the central battle-line while the assault squads jump in and throw their melta bombs on enemy vehicles or charge into combat with large enemy squads to pin them down. The tactical squads (lead by the Captain) begin to grind forward while the Chapter Master calls down an orbital bombardment on the enemy objectives and leads the third Terminator Squad into combat with the nearest enemy units.

The Space Marine tactic works well against most armies in my experience :)

I have a collection using multiple codex for the same marines, thus it would be hard for me to say which tactical squads and tanks are for which book, so just consider them Vanilla dex for tallying purposes.

Codex:  Space Wolves
Army Points:  Maybe 25,000+
Army Models:  Maybe 400+
Painted Points:  Maybe 20,000
Painted Models:  Maybe 300

If I pack the models on one spot, it covers about 20 sq. ft.  Still punching it into armybuilder to count it all.

Ok, not to precise, but accurate.  I could play a 1500 point game, evenings or weekends.  (Because I don't know the rules real well...)

I have a lot of metal Tyranids, some painted all, some started.  I could unload those.  Also a tub of ork parts.  Ork parts are parts you know.

I live in CNY Utica-Rome.

Let getting to the thread.  My space marine army is pure Dark Angels

Name:  Repent or Die!

Just over 10000 points.
1st Company - Deathwing
2nd Company - Ravenwing
4th Company - Primaris only and led by Lazarus and Lt. Zak.
5th Company - Old school Tactical, Assault, Devastator & Veteran marines led by Balthasar.
10th Company - Scouts, but only 3 squads of them.

Everything is painted except for 1 Predator, a Darkshroud, and a Primaris Eliminator Squad.

The other force that I have is a 800 points Cadian unit.  Its based on the "Cadia Falls Book Series".  Their based on New Cadia and is a mix of units coming together after they had to regroup.  So everyone is a veteran since they all survived.  I plan to build it up to 1200 to 1500 points max. At the moment its completely painted until I get more models to add to it.
