My New Chaos Infantry
« on: September 27, 2008, 04:33:40 AM »
Hello everyone!

I'm going to post some pictures of my chaos infantry. I normally play the Lost and the Damned so I will show off my new traitors, renegades, cultists, etc.

First I will start with a couple of traitors made from the new Cadian Guardsmen Box (the box with five men). Since these models are like the Assault on Black Reach models and have only three parts to snap together. While these men are good for fleshing out missing members from your squads, they are all posed in very generically. So in order to make my guys a bit more interesting I added a few bitz and some of battle damage to their gear.

First Traitor

Next up is one of my first new Blood Pact Troopers. If you don't know what a Blood Pact is then read Dan Abenett's "Gaunt's Ghosts" books. The Blood Pact are basically elite foot troops of Khorne who wear Steel Bowl Helmets, iron masks called grotesques and blood dyed fatigues. I'm beginning a small army of these men and this is my newest model.

Without the aid of a huge organization like the Departo Munitorium, a Pactsman must carry a lot of (stolen/looted) supplies.

I love Bloodpact, they make me feel all warm and fuzzy and murderous inside!

I'm going to post a lot more pictures.

The blood pact troops are very nice.  What kind of colour scheme are you planning? I'd guess a deep brown/red for the uniform (blood dyed, after all), but what about the helmets/masks/guns?

Looking good, especially Mr bloodpact. Can hardly wait to see them painted.

So the new packs of five are snap-togeather. :(  Is the weapon arm one of the three pats? So that you could perhaps make a flamer or grenade launcher guy with the spare parts from your regular plastics?

The blood pact guy looks ace, the helmet works a treat!

Nice knives on the cadian guys too. It gives them a suitable renegade touch.

the blood pact guy looks nice, but your other guys just look like bog standard imperial guardsmen, without some of the over-the-top iconography.

Yeah, another Blood Pacter! :D

Your guy looks totally awesome... very nice modeling on the grotesk. And you're using Westwind helmets too!

We should compare notes, though my blog hasn't been updated in a while 'cause I've been busy building. My Pact army is about 70% complete.

Are you doing any Stalk-tanks? Loxatl? Non-standard tanks like Reavers or Brigands? Do tell!

I'm guess your using the blood pack as your Hardened vets and the bulk of your trator gaurd being made from the cadians?

If so this will be a VERY slic army.

Mockingbird:
I'm going to paint them like my image over there

fugitive:
The new Cadian models are made of the body, the snap on lasgun arm, and the base. You could cut down the model and put a flamer on it, but I would suggest using these guys as lasgunners and using the regular guard bodies you have saved by implementing these guys into your force to equip with flamers.

Psycho Mantis:
Am I right in thinking that the helmets are west wind?
Yes, indeed they are.

Ailaros:

Wait what do you mean by "Bog Standard"? You mean like they can fight in a bog because they have tools to hack through the dense undergrowth?

Lucky_Jackal:
I will be doing that when I use my traitors in a renegade list. Otherwise I use these rules for Latd or sometimes the rengade list:

I would love to compare notes! I've seen your blog and I love the work you've done! Check your 40k online messages because I sent you a message a while ago, if it went through that is.

For my 1500 point army, aside from buying the Guard infantry and tanks, I probably only spent an extra $100 or so at Battlewagon Bits, buying Chaos bits and miscellaneous stuff to kit them out with. The Westwind heads are incredibly cheap, too - I spend about $20 USD for forty heads (that includes shipping). I think it all depends on how much you want to customize.

wow...   :o
Those Blood pact troops are incredible.  Don't know much about them myself, I haven't gone much outside the standard issue codecils.  I really like the backpacks and the gear you've kitted them out with.  I may just have to steal the backpack idea.  I don't play guard, but I like to get a set of random troops every once in a while just to build and paint, and I have plenty of extra SM bits in my SM bits box.

If I may be critical for a moment, I've got to say something about the filing down of your standard rebel-guards.  Perhaps it's just the picture, but the helmets seem to have flat planes where you have filed off the imp eagle.  Can I suggest a method I've found useful for curved surfaces?  It takes a little longer, but used a curling motion with your hand when filing, and do it lightly.  By curling motion (and a preemptive apology to all you Englishmen, no offense at all is meant by the following statement) I mean the stereotypical wave that we Americans equate with the English Queen.  Sort of like cupping a baseball and rubbing your hand around the surface.

I'd like to end on a positive note, though, and say that I haven't seen rebel troops look quite as cool as those blood pacters!
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.  - George Carlin

Alright time for another update!

Jolly Greggor:
I would attach a bayonet, but unfortunately all of the guard bayonets look to big on the autoguns.  :-\

ChaplainRobb:
As for the traitors, I may make the helmets a bit rounder, but as of now I'm going to focus on the Blood Pact because they are so fun to convert!

Alright now on to the pictures! Their are two new soldiers of the Pact for me to show! I want to save the rest of my auto-guns for later so I started using the lasgun arms. Some of the mold lines still need to be filed of these men, but I was so eager to take pictures so they are a little rough.

Armed to the teeth, the Pactsman rushes into the fray.

Another nice addition to my army! After this squad is done I will make a more heavily armored squad of Blood Pact or as in fluff terms a "Death Brigade".

Sick.  Love that charging trooper.

You're right about the bayonets looking unnaturally large, but it kinda looks like he's slashing or guarding, and I associate a bayonet with both of those.

Maintain the progress.

Some more new pics! I decided to make a Lascannon trooper just for the heck of it. This Lascannon is a more man portable version. This is my first Blood Pact that is not wearing his grotesque (although its attached to his belt at the moment).

This picture is kind of fuzzy.

Oh heres a shot with all the Blood Pact I've shown in this thread together with a flag I made.

Nice!

I've been trying to figure out how to model/paint scars, too. So far I haven't tried for fear of screwing it up, but my Senior Officer/Etogaur has no grotesk on, so I'll have to give it a try then...
