Defiler comeback!!??
« on: May 25, 2014, 03:12:51 PM »
Hey everyone,

EDIT: I thought they could fire everything without snap fires, but then read the rule under the vehicle page. Still, with vehicles being harder to destroy now and the defiler having 4 HPs, I think it might be better now. What do you all think?

Given the new vehicle rules, losing hull point will be how your vehicle dies *most* of the time. One-shot kills on pens are going to become relatively rare, unless plugged by 3-4 meltaguns at once.

This makes things with lots of hull points and It Will Not Die pretty tough, I'd say, assuming IWND hasn't changed. If Vehicles still get Daemon invul saves, that makes them even better.

I never thought I'd say this, but I think this edition is making my Thousand Sons army a force to be reckoned with. Who would've guessed?  :o

I like to think of IWNT as a feel no pain/regen  for vehicules .  My maulerfied has been especially lucky with those rolls too, living on when all seemed lost...
High powered weapons are so sensorily overwhelming that they are similar to psychoactive drugs. Like LSD, which can convince people they can fly--weapons can make people overconfident. Skewing their tactical judgement.--Ng security

I've gotten quite a few 7th Edition games under my belt at this point, and the Defiler has delivered in almost every one. It won't die easy, will always remain relevant with its weapon options, and can even wreck face sometimes, too (using the Grimoire of True Names on it is a nasty, nasty move).

Interesting.

I have played with two Defilers since 4th edition, recently cut it down to one.

And in my experience, the price jump with the latest codex made the return on investment too low.

I often loose one in turn two latest.

And often glanced to death.

Its way to expensive for a battle cannon, it needs to assault.

Maulerfiend does that very well for 60 pts less.

But I play Defilers for good looks, all those hours into convertions.

You are paying a lot for their utility, granted, but I usually have them last a good long while (unless there are a lot of wave serpents on the board, but then the Maulerfiends wouldn't last then, either).

I use the Defiler as an area-denial unit. You park it somewhere near a few objectives and have it blast away. If anybody gets too close, you charge them. I've found it works quite well, myself. I *could* get a single purpose unit for cheaper, but it wouldn't fulfill the job as well.
