Yeah, its shooting and then cc, but that doesn't mean that youre moving 6" and shooting your support guys every turn until a brawl ensues. If you play like that every time then i feel sorry for you. Theres more to the game and it's more interesting.

What more is there to the game? You just described it . Move forward 6", shoot, then attack. When is there ever anything different? What else is there? Staying back and shooting the whole time? Just running forward? On occasion there are objects, but they are generally just find spot while moving forward shooting, then get in CC there.

What extra rules are there? Once a unit is under half, it runs like the wind, and sometimes something that causes fear will show up.

we're kind of just talking about 40k now I guess.

Vice, when you say on occasion there are objects you reveal why you do'nt like 40k, you don't have good terrain! Make the table interesting so manuevering means something. Jesus, 2 armies walking towards each other is just stupid wether its 40k or lotr or anything.

I like LotR a hell of a lot more than 40k. No rule arguments is a reason enough but it is also suprisingly tactical. Deciding when to use might points is a tricky affair and as I play goblins I usually save them up for snatching back lost prioritey but the new volley rules could change my mind...

I'm completely fed up of 40k on the other hand your army list and who wins first turn is the decider for 99% of the games i've seen so far.
Please send me money or pixies will steal your socks.....

I find with LOTR lots of terrain can make a game quite challenging.  Especially if the opponent has archers on a hill and is raining death on your foot troops.
He will be drawn to large cities, where he will clog sewers, reverse street signs, and steal everybody's left shoe.

It makes it one hell of alot more interesting too. I should get some pics of my incredibly crappy, horrible looking, took-me-ten-seconds-to-make terrain on my table for LoTR. It's suprisingly effective. just get 1" polystyrene in 2x8', then cut out hill shapes, use a heat gun, spraypaint black for texture, paint brown, paint sides grey, drybrush with a lighter grey, drybrush final time lightly with real light grey or white, throw some flock on top, use brown ink, stick in some trees, and you're done.

I've never really played 40k (aside from a few demos and the ccg), but it never really interested me.  I tried it after playing Rings for a few years.  It wasn't "real-time" enough for me.  Rings is much more dynamic in terms of turns.  40k seems to be too turn-based.  It's like comparing Civ2 to Age of Empires.  There really isn't much comparison as far as I'm concerned.  Real time all the way!

Sounds like more than ten seconds.    ;)
Get some pics up in the terrain forum.  I'd like to see them.
