Fusion Blade Support System Math
« on: March 10, 2017, 09:01:50 PM »
Okay, so according to the Fusion Blades entry, the following happens:

1) Commander buys a Twin-linked Fusion Blaster (which take up 2 slots on his suit)
2) Commander buys Fusion Blades
3) Fusion Blades, as per entry, "replace" the TL Fusion Blaster (which is a whole new, single weapon).

The question is this: How many slots on his suit do Fusion Blades occupy?

Option A: Zero slots, as support systems don't take up slots (or, at least they don't in any other instance).
Option B: 1 Slot, as the Fusion Blades are a single weapon.
Option C: 2 Slots, since the Fusion Blades are basically the same as the TL Fusion Blaster.

Thoughts? I'm *inclined* to go with C, myself, but I was initially assuming B.

It's C I'm afraid. The profile for the weapon mentions twin-linked as well.

Yes, but that only has relevance to suit equipment slots when taken from the Tau Ranged Weapon list. Which it isn't.

I think the operative phrase here is "replace" and exactly what that means.

I'm inclined to say C anyway, though. This of course leads to the following question: which would you prefer, a Stim Injector or a Shield Generator.

I know we're already agreeing on the conclusion yet I'd hope for the same reasons. The rule says replace the fusion blaster's profile so in essence you've still carrying fusion blasters if overclocked.

Stim-injector. Slightly more useful in the long run I've found. Shield saves can be added with drones if one were so willing and had additional points to spare.

Yeah, that's ultimately my thinking, but it's the "in essence" thing that gives me trouble. It's a totally different weapon with a different profile and a different name and that name is not the same as the one that takes up the two slots. <shrug>

On this I think I agree, too. Cover saves are free, FNP rolls don't grow on trees.

If you do have some points free and looking for a good home I'd suggest a Talisman. Not cheap and subjective in usage but I like them for the Deny ability since Tau are somewhat lacking in said bonuses.

I considered it, but I really don't need the Deny bonus very often (the *only* psychic power I'm ever targeted with is Doom, honestly, and that doesn't happen half as often as it used to). Then again, if I want an Invul on my commander *and* the load-out I already have, then it's the only way to get one.

I just like them. Same as my drone kink.
