Harlequin 'hounds'?
« on: May 10, 2006, 03:04:35 PM »
Me again...

Do you think it feasable that a harlequin troupe would have some sort of attack hound? Would they be hounds? What other types of hound troops are there that could be feasable?

The reason I ask is because DE warp beasts look like a good idea in my harlequin themed DE army, but I want to keep it themed.

Keep it theme - Harlequin circus monkeys. They could fling void-feces  :-*

But otherwise, yeah, hounds sound cool, deciding on a paint theme will be the tougher part.
Perhaps have a look at the warhammer fantasy battle range for some inspiration?

The thing with those is that they don't sy 'eldar' to me. They kinda say 'crap plastics', but that's just me.

Are there any eldar animals or folk's tales animals? Falcons come to mind...

Maybe warhawks and great eagles... Or swarms of birds... (ie warmaster eagles...)

How about cats (there was a wild cat done for the wood elves, you can order it via MO)?
Maybe sabres from the Ogres?
Or some ape-like creatures (Jokaero anyone?)

Right, I'm going with LOTR plastic wargs.

I figure that there will be some sort of feral hound at least on a few of the maiden eldar worlds. the harlequins have utelised this in the form of small packs of wolves.

Plus I have 6... ;)

I'm not seeing it. Hounds/animals really have no place in the dance without end.

P.s.  why choose possibly the ugliest pug looking things in the gaming universe for that role?
Wargs are seriously foul sculpts. they look like pug dogs on steroids. Not very hostile at all.

Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed from all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to all.

The hounds wouldn't be part of the dance. Just as the backing people don't have an active part of the dance.

The way I'm thinking of it, is the harlequins are constantly on the move, correct? The backstage people would have the choice to form families etc, as they are not the warriors (per se). Why would they not have 'pets'? They are not always at war, they travel between worlds performing the dances. Why would it seem so unfeasable that they don't bring animal companions with them?

Then, why would it seem so unfeasable that they don't utilise those animals at times of war? There would only be a handful of them...

Thats my take on it anyway...

EDIT

Awww, come on. They aren't that bad. I think they'd look quite adorable if they didn't have their teeth showing. A bit like a dog... Though I hate dogs...

why not kroot hounds? and make the spikes out their back look like crystals.
They have chameleon-like abilities so there is no problem in painting them like a rainbow. And you can always argue that they took them in after they fought chaos together with Kroot and the hounds were the only survivers... or something like that

Well it is all fiction so do whatever you like :D

Even if the models you would have for the hounds that the harlequins would use dont look as fearsome as you want, remember htey would probably be augmented with some of the same technology that goes into the harlequin masks and holo generators that make them look like legendary monsters and creatures of the warp/hell and so the hounds would look similarly in battle, and use this to their advantage.  I know a model that looked like it was capable of S4 A4 would be nice but there is justification for otherwise, though i dont know how it would be modeled.

I like the idea of hte Eagle from Fantasy being used.
It's something that I mused upon for a while. Then I went and got more Banshees/Troupers instead  :D

The Eagles add something quasi-mythical (something ELSE) to the 'Quins. After Eldar legend does speak of a Falcon. Perhaps these creatures are used in the Dance as a sort of avatar for the dead god...
