Tyranid Kill Team ideas
« on: January 28, 2014, 07:17:04 PM »
I have every 6th ed. Codex that's came out so far and I think it would be a shame to not use them, so I'm beginning a little project.  Build a kill team for every army there is.  And since the nids are the newest I'll start with them.

I've basically got three ideas, and I'd like to run them all by here.  First question to ask, before actually looking at the lists proper is, which one seems like the best 'commando' list.

List 1:

Lictor Brood of 4 Lictors.  One specialist has Blind.  One specialist has Counter-attack.  One specialist has Hammer of Wrath.  Total 200pts.

List 2:

Ravener Brood of 3 Raveners and The Red Terror.  Red Terror is Leader.  One specialist has Spinefists and Split Fire.  One specialist has a Devourer and Soul Blaze.  One specialist has a Deathspiter and Poisoned.
Total 193pts.

List 3:

Shrike Brood of 4 Tyranid Shrikes.  Leader has Spinefists and Lash whip and bonesword.  One specialist has Venom Canon and Tank Hunter.   One specialist has a Devourer and Soul Blaze.  One specialist has a Deathspiter and Poisoned.  All have Adrenal Glands, Toxin sacs and Flesh hooks.
Total 199pts

I'm also looking at a genestealer themed one too.

If you were to play 1500 points... would you use the models from each of these options?

I think I would.  Honestly though, I'm thinking of only sticking with kill teams for like, nearly all of them.  Nids would be on that list.

I think the red terror would be a lot of fun to play.  No idea how viable that list is, but it would be hilarious.  I would keep a score counter on how many models he has eaten that day!

Shrikes are really good too.

Last time I played kill team I brought my nids and I had a list of 3 shrikes and 10 hormaguants and the only team I couldn't beat was an ork horde! I was 5-1 for the day.  I would defiantly bring some gaunts along with you with whatever list you run.  10 Termies is just 40 points so that should be easy to slip in!

As for the stealers, I've always wondered how a broodlord would do in a kill team mission.  It is a big nasty beast to take on one on one.  Throw a zoan or a venomthrope in there too for fun!  Or a Lictor with shrouded and make it fluffy!

6 stealers, broodlord with scything talons, and a lictor is 200 points, I think.  Lictor with shrouded, stealers with FNP and... something else and yeah... Have fun eating people's brains! :)

I'm also looking at a genestealer themed one too.

Genestealers don't seem to fare very well in KT (at least around here), especially up against MEQs. Travellar fielded a full-infiltrating GS+2x Lictor list that was pretty much melted by a squad of chaos space marines (they were MoS in an attempt to get the drop on something, didn't work out though). Combined with focusing down the dangerous models and it's rather hard to stay in CC through your opponent's turn. And while Break tests aren't horrible thanks to the good LD, they'll still need to take them.

Now, 4x Warriors + gaunts are a real tough nut to crack. Deathspitters are decent weapons in their own right, the warriors themselves are generally tough against small-arms fire and Synapse means that you generally need to drop all of the Warriors before even thinking about getting the gaunts to break. Packing meltaguns or similar weaponry can evaporate the Warriors, but those models are less likely to survive long enough to get the money shots, because any Hive mind worth its noms is going to suicide gaunts into the really dangerous guys and then play it safe.

Per brood yes, but this is kill team.  Basically I'm taking a brood of three and a single one too.

Thought of another kill team idea.

2 lictors and 3 shrikes, leader with strangler

........hmmm.... interesting.  Not sure what to say about this that isn't obvious.
