How common are Allies in WFB ??
« on: November 13, 2012, 06:49:12 AM »
Hey fantasy type guys,

So I was wondering how common allies are in the fantasy game.
I'm thinking about 500 points of Tzeentch daemons to be added to my Warriors of Chaos.

Good idea?  Obviously will add more Magic and shooting to an otherwise fighty killy army.

Any thoughts?

I would say it depends entirely on the area.  I know my LGS, allies in fantasy was flat out ignored.  I have never actually heard of anyone using allies to be honest.
If there is anything that recent politics has taught us, it is that quotes taken out of context can mean what ever you want them to.
Well I always liked the globals...
I knew I had fans!!!

Hmmm...

I'm getting the feeling this is the case.
I don't think I've ever seen an allied contingent on the field.

Time to set a trend!  ;D

You can ally in Fantasy? (I know I know you can, just pointing out my sarcastic response.)

I've never seen it done, I don't even know the rules for it off hand. Does Army Builder even support them? (Goes to find out.)

Answer is yes... but it is weird... likely because I do not know the rules...
Tali: Shepard! Want a drink?

Shepard: So… how are you getting drunk, anyway?

Tali: Very carefully. Turian brandy… tripled filtered and introduced into the suit through this… emergency induction port.

Shepard: That’s a straw, Tali.

Tali: Emergency. Induction. Port.

Seems pretty straight forward to me.  The rules are all there in the rulebook.  However you're still bound by the percentages for core, special and so on I believe. This is probably why not many people use allies.

I'm slowly coming round to the fact that this probably isn't a good idea. And so My Tzeentch daemon detachment is going to be put on the back burner for now.

There are generally more practical rules for using a detachment of Daemons of Chaos with another force in the Storm of Chaos rulebook which you might want to have a look at, it is quite similar to how it is done in 40k.

Thanks Benis and everyone else for that metter.  I'm still get the impression that allied detachemnts are not really a done thing in the fantasy world (yet) never mind. However, I've just got hold of two units of Marauder hosemen and 10 more warhounds  ;D
