Battle Report vs. Templars
« on: September 10, 2004, 07:23:28 PM »
Just got home from week 1 of a 40K league.  750 pt matchup against Black Templars.

Templars:
1 Champion, 1 High Marshall, 1 Assault Squad (6), 2 Tactical Squads (6 ea), 1 Dreadnaught

Tau:
1 Ethereal, 3 FW Squads (8 ea), 1 Stealth Team (5), 2 Crisis Squads (1 ea), 2 Broadsides

Deployment:
The Templars set up one Tactical Squad with the Champion on the Left Side and one Squad on the Right.  The Dreadnaught was also on the right and the Assault Sqaud was with the Marshall in the middle.

The Tau set up each broadside on a far end and the FW squads spaced evenly covering thirds of the board.  The stealth team covered the left flank and the Crisis Suits on the RIght.  The Ethereal sat in the back to watch.

Turn 1:
The Templars opened up the battle by ripping a hole through one of my broadsides with the Dreadnaughts lascannon.  Following this up with misses from the Tactical squads he quickly ended his turn.  The Tau made their presence known quickly having the Stealth Team and a FW squad completely wipe out one of the Tactical Squads leaving the Champion by himself on the Left side.  One FW squad moved up to Rapid Fire the Assault Squad and was given support by the 3rd FW team and one Crisis suit.  2 Assault marines fell while the other crisis suit failed to destroy the dreadnaught.

Turn 2:
The Emperors champion cowered in some cover but the Dread and Assault team pressed on.  The Dread took down a Crisis suit and the Assault team wiped out an entire FW squad in H2H, but had nowhere to consolidate into.  The Tau responded with a valiant attempt to wipe out the assault squad but their armor proved too resilient.

Turn 3:
Unfortunately the game was won here as the Templars forgot to move the Assault Marines and found they were just shy of Assault Range and were forced to shoot at the Tau.  The Dread shot at the other broadside by took a chunk of terrain instead.  The Tau capitalized on the Error of the Emperor and took out another Assault Marine.

Turn 4:
Not to make the same mistake again, the Assault marines stepped up to the challenge and wiped out another squad of fire warriors in CC.  They found themselves sitting in front of a mass of Tau firepower.  The Tau then shot down the rest of the Assault Squad and moved in on the remaining Tactical Squad and Dreadnaught.

Turn 5:
The Champion finally showed his face but was torn apart by Burst Cannons and Pulse Rifles.  The Crisis Suit stepped into the open and blew apart the Dreadnaught, although the Dreadnaught had made itself more than useful taking out the remaining broadside at the start of the turn.

Turn 6:  The final tactical squad turned around to high tail it back to the emperor but were easily gunned down by the Stealth team and Crisis suit.
