Title: Spawn question
Post by: iAgent on April 9, 2008, 02:54:57 PM
It took a while for it to register for me, but I finally noticed.  Does it strike anyone else as odd to have a Spawn, who is 'slow and purposeful' under the fast attack organization?

Not the question of the century but I'd be interested to hear if there's any sort of reason behind it.

Note that it's also a "beast", so it'll probably be moving faster than normal footslogging troops. Not necessarily though  ;D

There are lots of contradictions with the spawn.

3 wounds but no armor
Beast but S&P
Close combat unit, but never gets charge bonus

etc.

My 7 Cents.

Well I guess that kind of answers my question.  However, now I'm wondering what the heck GW was thinkin when they pieced this one together.  :-\

Thank you for enlightening me on the other contradictions Sanctjud.  Just more reinforcement  on why I'd never think of using one, unless for 'yay happy who cares fun game time'.

Throw away unit, but costs alot
Lots of wounds, but not scoring
Very fast, but very stupid (moves to closest)
decent str, but very stupid (hits vehicles it can't hurt)

The idea is to spam them, but the squad size restrictions results in fewer individual units.

They have horrible rules, but awesome models
They were great, now they suck

As a 'fun' throw away, it starts off the board in escalation.

Best use if gift of chaos, but even then, it creates an additional 40 VPs for the enemy to claim, so...use gift of chaos, just don't put down the spawn...

I'm sure there are others...just not off the top of my head.

Surely they are a fun unit...'fast' and tarpitting/disruptive, but just don't expect anything from them, and I'm sure they can do well with that mentality.

My 7 Cents.
