I haven't been idle since the last post.  :) I made some progress on the front section which has been re-designed. Check my first post to find the difference.

More pictures in a couple of days.

Only a small update this time. I closed the upper hull of the drop ship.

I'm also thinking about moving the engine housing a little bit more to the top like this:

instead of having them here:

I also started detailing the interior ...

... more to be seen in a week.

This thing is going to be huge when it's done. Well it is allready. I want one! :)

Will it only carry tanks or will there be room for infantry some infantry on the floor above the main cargo hold, like the manta? If not, have you tested how many guardsmen can fit in the cargohold?

Glad to see that you have started doing some detail work. Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks for your compliments.

Atm, it is about 70 cm long. Once the tail section is added it will be about 1  to 1,20 m long.

Sigh, so much more work to do.

It will carry 3 tanks (Leman Russ equivilent) or 6 Sentinels or 60 troops (in the main cargo area). I suppose the space area above the main cargo section could probably hold another 60 men.

Alternatively, it would be possible to drop 3 tanks and 60 men (from the upper section).

My original plan was to add an infantry compartment. However, I don't see a way how to do it without making the construction more complicated as it is already.

I'll take another look at the Tau Manta, though. Perhaps it'll give me some inspiriation or idea.

Hehe, glad you like it. I bought some modeling mags on ebay which gave me many ideas. Make sure to watch this thread.

The cargo area was detailed a little bit more .After I did research on the 'net I will have to add a lot more, i.e lights, tube, wiring.

@ Fugitive: Here's the reason why I won't add a troop compartment to the ship. The lateral struts are in the way. Unfortunately I thought about this after I glued everything in place. :(

I'll try to work on the lander tomorrow. Pictures will follow soon.

It looks very nice. It sort of reminds of a Higgins boat they used during D-Day.

Obviously I didn't update as intended, my apologies if you had to wait.  :-[

Atm, I'm working on some details which will go to the interior, actually the sides, of the front ramps.

Too much, too little?? What do you think.

I'll try to work on the details of the cargo area next. Or maybe the ramp itself. We'll see. ;D

Another week, another update

I finished the ramp and the sides of the front cargo area.

Plus, I got lucky on ebay. I was able to to buy two sentinel pilots which will be a nice detail for the cockpit.

After looking at those pilots, I felt a bit sorry for them. They had no seats.

I changed that today. However, there is still a lot of work to be done.

Not many rumours atm, so I figured I might as well continue the work on my lander project.

I made some minor progress on the detailing. Here is the current status.

As seen from the rear ramp

as seen from the front ramp

and from above

As you can see the cargo area holds three tanks but four tanks is an option, too.

I'm not done with the cargo area, yet. It still needs more wiring and tubes (fuel, cooling, life support, etc. etc.).

It looks great so far. I assume there's going to be another level that will be housing the infantry?

What is that material you used for the floor interior (looks kinda like diamond plate)?

(Sigh)

The original plans called for another level in the upper hull. However, I goofed during the construction. I simply forgot to add a removable section in order to allow a view into the ship.

Theoretically it would be possible to construct another upper hull but atm I am hesting from doing so.

It's so much work and I'm too lazy to even think of it.

What is that material you used for the floor interior (looks kinda like diamond plate)?

It's a plastic checker plate which I bought in our local modeling shop. If you don't have a modeling shop in town then you should be able to get some on ebay.

P.P.S.

Look what came with the mail today.

I am not very good at painting and that goes double for larger models.

Hopefully this book will help me a bit.

Howdy,

I postponed the wiring of the cargo area for a day or two and started on the tail section which was important anyway as I need this section for starting on the engines and (in the long run) the cockpit area.

Just so you get the impression of what I'm talking about here are some images of what little progress I have to show off since the last update.
