Paint Scheme for a new tyranid army *updated with test model*
« on: November 29, 2008, 01:06:54 AM »
Hello i was wondering what you all thought about doing a bug paint scheme based on this:

Also i was wondering what colors you would think i will need to do it: I was thinking light blue for the main flesh and then a darker blue for the carapace with black spots what do you all think?

Prime black, then use a dark blue. Build up with lighter and lighter shades of blue, until you have all the levels.

Or, prime white, paint in very light blue, and build down darker and darker.

The Carapace looks amazing, don't change a thing about it. The skin looks nice, though I would think it would look better if the details (tounge, teeth, and those webbed things poking out of the nids skin at various places) were picked out, maybe in a very bright blue.

I like the look, I would have gone with a black carapace and do the blue and spots on the skin to give it some contrast.

The carapace looks brilliant! It does make the skin look look a little dull though.

If you look around the middle of the arms, and at the part where the leg connects to the model (all facing outside, btw, they are visible) you will notice some bumps on the arms, which looks like part of the muscle/whatever Nids have under their skin/whatevery it could be poking out. That is what I am talking about.

Kickass idea for a color sheme, how on the model itself I would add a lil bit more white in the front of the carapace.

Anaylse the frog very well and you'll see that his back is quite white and the dark blue spots on his back actually have a very easy to follow pattern.
You didn't represent any of these 2 in your lil gaunt.

He doesn't look bad at all, if I didn't know the frog I would say that he looks completely kickass, but since you showed us the frog I prefer it over your gaunt lol.

God...If I had seen this frog 2 years ago all my nids would have looked a lot different...I almost feel like changing my nids...but changing 200 models would be a bit too much...

Great Paint Scheme!

I really like what you have done with the carapace :) Very well highlighted. One thing though, the tongue should be done in a brighter color I would say. But a deadly job mate, now I am intrigued by Nids myself, hehe.

Cool frog! is that yours? is it a Dendrobates azureus? I have a D. leocumelas...they're such cool animals

anyway, I think you did an amazing job of capturing the pattern of the frog's skin onto that gaunt.  It needs to be a bit brighter, but you said that it is brighter in person, so it's probably perfect.  However, in my opinion, that base doesn't really go.  Try modeling on some moss or fake water or a more riverbed-ish rock scheme
