Auspexes for the Astra Militarum?
« on: August 31, 2015, 04:08:23 PM »
You all know of the Auspex right?  That nifty little scanner used by Space Marines?  And its sister device, the Ommiscope, as used by the Skitarri?  Well, the IG don't have an equivalent, and with the Fire On My Target order they don't really need them either.  However, I had this idea I wanted to put forward; an IG version of the Auspex that only effects vehicles.

Here's my reasoning.  Any Space Marine can use the benefit of an Auspex because of their power armor, and all of the advanced targeting equipment and such contained within it.  And the Skitarii are cyborgs.  The IG however, have nothing like that.  At best they have basic night vision/flash resistant googles. Not even Scions have anything close to what the marines or Skitarri have.  IG vehicles on the other hand could carry similar equipment to what's found in a marines helmet, even if it's cruder/less advanced.

This device I'm thinking off would work exactly like an Auspex but only friendly vehicles can use the benefit of it.  Also, I think it should be restricted to the likes of Storm Trooper officers and maybe Masters Of Ordinance rather than every Tom, Dick or Harry.  What do you guys think?  And what should it be called?

Seems reasonable to me, from a fluff perspective.

Might use the term "augur" or other divination-related terms.

Thanks for the reply!  :)

Yeah it needs a suitably Latin derived name to be Imperial enough.  Shame the best ones are taken though.  Lexicanum says that the IG's scanners are called surveyors.  How dull.  :P

'Sight' translated into latin is conspectu.  Then there's oculum or oculus (eye(s)).  There is that Inquisitional device the Psyocculum.  All food for thought.

I guess I could just call it an Augur.  There's the Augur Array vehicle upgrade I know but they could be related devices I guess.

Brilliant.  ;D

About infantry; there is the Fire On My Target order which is admittedly better.  Less widespread but for good reason.
