Title: Spring Painting Challenge [Month 3/3]
Post by: Kitsune Tsuki on April 30, 2007, 09:24:37 PM
Welcome to the April Painting Challenge. We are now into the 2nd year of these, first under Loydb, Khemri Demon, Serious Callers Only and now me. The goal of this challenge is to get some of that unpainted lead that most of us have laying around table-ready. At the start of each month, participants pledge to have a squad painted by the closing date.

I will update this post with a list of people who wish to vow.

RULES

1. Vows will be frozen 10 days after the start of the challenge. There is no changing of *any* vow after day 10. Say what you'll paint, then paint what you say. If you don't already own the models you want to paint, I suggest not making the vow until you do.  Vows are still accepted after the 10th, but they can not be changed afterward.

2. This is more of a request than a rule. *Please* post work in progress pics if you possibly can. One of the best things about the thread is watching stuff come together.  It's perfectly fine if you don't post any photos, however.

3. I need to know unit sizes when you post your vows.

FAQ
Q: Do I have to do Games Workshop figs?
A: No. Several people make Warmachine vows, myself included.  Feel free to do vows based on any game system.

Q: I need to change my vow!
A: You have until Day 10 of the month.

Q: What if I don't have a camera?
A: We operate on the honor system. If you say you did it, we believe you. There are no prizes, so you only get the satisfaction of lying on the internet if you choose to do so.

Q: Will you do one of these every month?

A: That's the goal. Assuming the board manages to stay up

Q: Hey, what if we finish our vow but decide to paint more?
A: Paint away! If you mean, can you get a head start on next month, I guess so. But it's kind of cheesy to make a vow with a 75% painted unit at the start of the month...

Seeing as I now have basically no uni work I'm gonna set myself a vow of a Guard command squad, finish the chimera I started and 2 stormtrooper squads (one I've already made a good start on).

Hopefully I wont fail this one  :(

Time to stop lurking....
I'm going to weigh in with finishing my brezerker squad, my defiler, and my last rhino.
So: 8 Brezerkers, 1 Rhino, 1 Defiler.
I also will be starting my board and scenery, otherwise I would vow more (oh, yeah, and I have to graduate college, too, but that's secondary...).

Hey there.

Been a long time lurker on the forums and always liked the idea of the painting challenges. I've been trying to join for a while now but I kept having problems with my registration (the confirmation e-mails didn't work for some reason) - but as you can see, that's all sorted out now.

Hmm. I'm a rather slow painter so I'll start small. Put me down for one Tau Sniper Team, A Wood Elf Lord on Stag, my  nearly completed Commanding XV8 Crisis Battlesuit and six Firewarriors.

Thanks.

Good hunting.

5 man Dark Angels Successor command squad (probably not the standard itself yet though - my wife said she'd do it, but I can't pin her down on when). Maybe the commander too.

I bought ten new Dire Avengers for twenty dollars off of ebay a few weeks ago.  I guess it's time to get around to them.  So that's my vow: ten Dire Avengers.

OK the Wraithlady (decided from fluff that He is actually a She - not that you can tell from the model) is so almost done, so I'll vow her and 3 Guardian Jetbikes.
They need stripping and converting, but I should be able to do it wish me luck.

Well, in preparation for the Fifth 40KOnline UK Tournament, I'll be painting mostly Tau this month! So here is the list.

Then the fun stuff! (Assuming FW comes through for me)

Yes, that is a lot of Tau, but once the above is done I will have for future challenges:

The date of the tourney is the 1st September so 4 months in total, I need to break out the Jolt Cola!

I think you'll need to break out the crack man.  for this month alone that is a lot of stuff (even without the FW tanks).  More power to you though.  and a tournament is always a great way to get your butt in gear.  plus a little extra motivation in the painting challenge.  If you get this months challenge done, the crack is on me.

welcome to 40k online!

these threads are indeed to inspire (er pressure) you to paint! nothing like a voiced commitment and a little group peer pressure to get it done!

Thanks for the welcome.

Quick update - my Tau Commander is now in the final stages and only needs some extra bitz done - hopefully I can get some pics up in the next few days. Sadly I did not have the foresight to take some pics before I started painting the final touches (basically just his weps left when I started), but I should be done with him soon and I will remember to take pics of my other projects as they progress (These are constructed and based).

Good hunting.

....and that's my motivation sorted for this month. :)

@Kitsune Tsuki: Can you move the FW vehicles to "if I have time"? That was why I had them under fun stuff.

is it bad that I finished my 10 sisters retributor squad, 2 rhinos and my converted excosists already??

Well I did have a 2 day sit in with friends and all we did was play and paint. think we only slept like 3 hours too lol.

anyways working on the 5 sisters Dominion Squad and their Immolator now.

I must say the foundation paints are great. really cutting down on my reds over a black undercoat and the brown on my bases.

I'm with you on that one, they've definitely raised my estimation of the Citadel paints range. They're certainly going to help with the twenty Stormtroopers on my list.

what colour scheme are you going with?

mine is based on the Guardians of the Covenant scheme and looks quite effective (even though i am painting them) but i am using mechrite as the base for the red robes and it is looking good!

The release date for the individual pots seems to be June 2, at least in the UK. There's a reason I'm doing striking scorpions this month, and waiting until next month to tackle the remainder of my Banshee squad  ;D

I got half my dire Avengers assembled barring their little doo-dahs like ammo and heads....(I put the heads on after paint, lol)

Also, Abbadon't armor is done being re-painted...Black on really large detailed surfaces is a PAIN! He looks sweet now though, just have to do his tabard, trophy racks, tidy up the metallic trim, and base! ( considering I have had this statue since it was released in 2002 I will be happy to finish him! All thanks to this thread! Oh, and Golden Demon Chicago......lol!)

oh the standard black red and white scheme. got a really good charcoal custom mix for the highlights using 75% bleached bone and 25% chaos black.

My GD army keeps changing, so my vow will likely change.

However, so far I've converted and painted 5 dark reapers (pics to come later when i take em)

Converted a jetbike autarch and primed him

Assembled/primed everything else.

I drop back with an updated "painting" list later

Dark Reapers - Completed, Just converted the bases and painted em, they won a local painting competition as part of a tournament the other day, nothing serious, just 10 entries, still nice to see em do well though.

These may or may not end up in my GD army, but heck, I love 3rd edition reapers and dont care for 4th, so I thought I'd show some of my unpainted eldar some love for once.

Gravis, the Gatling guns look sweet, and Targetawg, nice Dark Reapers.

Here is my progress so far....working slowly. Got all the red done on the brezerkers, and most of the metal done on the defiler. The rhino is going to be mostly black, so it will paint up quick.

Hmm, peer pressure to get stuff painted.  I like this idea.
I'll make a vow:
13 space marines with plasma cannons - not exactly a squad, but all my sergeants and Marines without upgrades are done
also all my BFG which is 1DE torture class cruiser and 6DE corsair class escorts

Ha, we shall see how i manage that.

OK. Ive got a good portion of my command squad painted. Still bits and pieces of these guys to tidy up as well as needing to paint the vox operator. I pleased with the progress though it has been fairly slow. I messed uyp the banner a couple of times. It was originally supposed to be yellow and white, but I couldnt get the yellow right so I went for gold. Anyway the pics...

Im afraid Im having to change my vow due to needing money to bring together the army before I can get it painted, so, its not really getting smaller, except now a lot of it is going to end up on ebay at the end of the month:

OLD VOW
Targetawg- 1 Warp Spider Exarch, 10 Warp Spiders, 1 Fire Prism, 2 Jetbike Warlocks, 5 Dark Reapers, 6 x Guardian Jetbikes

NEW VOW
Targetawg- 2 Jetbike Warlocks, 6x Guardian Jetbikes, 5 Dark Reapers, 4 Fire dragons, Avatar

The Dark reapers and fire dragons will end up as auctions once I finish em, the fire dragon exarch is one I painted previously. I was planning on using the dark reapers, but, in the end I decided they didnt fit my army list (although they did perform admirably).

Thanks, sorry to shifts things around on you. I'll post up progress once I make some more :)

OK, FW Abbadon, so far....re-did his armor to a more black color (it was based midnight blue before) Still need to do the details on the base, trophy racks, and tabard. I will re-do the eye on his right pad as well, just not sure what to do. i want it to look more organic so...hmmm....I dunno!

Making progress, just some finishing up to do on the uniforms of the artillery crews, helmets and bases and they're done, so I'm reckoning Saturday/Sunday to finish em, the Thunderbolt is about 50% done now too so should get that done over the weekend to boot.

Leaving me with the Duelist to paint while working on an entry for the conversion contest. :)

I've been off to a pretty slow start this month.  Last month I was pretty much done with my vow by the tenth and was able to add new stuff (crisis suit.)  I haven't really got going yet and I'm pretty broke so I don't see any broadsides or fireknives making an appearance in this months challenge.  So my vow stays as is.

Almost done with the stealth suits.  They still need the red gore extreme highlighting to their bodies.  and I just started in on the drones.

Updated and locked.

I've primed my harrier, and got the body and backpacks of two more Hunters done. However, I went to glue the bolter to one guy, and learned it wasn't fitting. Then tried washing the glue off, but I forgot what happens with water and superglue mix. Thankfully it's not a huge mess.

I'm making fair progress. Maugan Ra and the hounds came in the mail, and I've gotten Maugan Ra and 1 hound painted. Also, I've painted the 4 Vibro Cannon Crew and 3 other guardians. However, one hound's leg is missing to the abyss. It was one of those times where you drop the piece, and you think you saw it fall, but when you look for it you can't find it no matter how hard you ravage the floor. Also, the 4 remaining guardians are in disrepair, but alas, thats what I get for using Dark Eldar bits. I should repair those tonight as well as finish green-stuffing the gaps on the hounds. Oh, I also painted the jetbike.

1/2 Forgeworld Avatar
Maugan Ra
11 4 Guardians (4 are Vibro Cannon Crew)
6 5 Orion's Hounds
4 "Counts as" Harlequins
1 Warlock
1 Jetbike
9 Dire Avengers

All in all, progress is coming nicely. I'm fairly confident I'll be able to finish by the end of the month/GT. Pics soon-- I promise.

Edit: HA! Found the leg! It was under the leg of my chair. I have rug though, so it wasn't damaged. :)

Just a quick reply, not that I'm making much progress (finished robes, starting on skulls, belts and faces), but to praise some recent posters.

Nurgleboy - fantastic abaddon there, paricularly the face and skulls. Don't believe I've seen the FW version before - is that out of the box or did you do some conversion work?

and Parak - great guardsmen. I think yours and Gravis' are the best I've seen around here.

Mostly out o' the box but the claw was rotated to look like he was firing it, instead of cupping his hand. It's a huge statue, not a game-scale model. One of the best things Simon Eagan ever did. I guess they weren't making enough money offa it, so they dropped it. They used to have lotsa statues and large scale things, now its just impossibly huge tanks, and impossibly expensive! LOL we keep buying though!

finally have some stuff to show for this month though not much.  Here are two more stealth suits.  i probably should have waited until I finished the last one but I had my camera going.  The new dudes are the two to our right:

once I finish the last one, I'll have a healthy squad of six!

also finished one marker drone and one regular one and I have been working on the shield drones.  Still plenty more to do.

-edit

shield drones are done.  I was able to do these guys up pretty quickly.  they don't have those annoying carbines to paint.

these guys are supposed to be for my broadsides.  but since I have no broadsides at the moment they are accompanying my commander for illustrative purposes.

The Duelist is slowly taking shape, the pistol is pretty much done, the skin shown here (the back hand is'nt done yet) needs one more highlight, starting to work on the upper tunic front now.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! It's Da headless Kommando! run fer yer lives!

Why's his skin red? I like the grot. This is one of my favorite new models! (so why haven't I painted it...hm.... next month's challenge?!)

OK I've gotten off my butt and at least assembled part of my oath...lol only halfway through the moth! Here's my converted Dire Avengers and a test model. tell me what you think about the test. I might end up doing the armor in black as I am using these guys as Eldrad's personal guard i.e. Black Guardians.

Very nice pictures posted so far guys.

I like the combination of High Elf parts with the Dire Avengers- the two work together really well.

Got one of my Avengers finished, with another 4 getting fairly close.

The flaws in my painting are showing up fairly harshly in the photos, so I can only assure you that the model looks a bit better in RL.  Comments and criticisms are welcome.

With exams, I'm going to have to work fairly fast to get the Avengers done this month- the Banshee squad will have to wait until next month.

Im finding myself completely unmotivated, even with the games day baltimore tourney coming up, to get painting.

I've nearly finished my Avatar (about 8-9 hours in him so far, probably 2-3 more to finish). The 5 dark reapers are done.

I still have 2 jetbike warlocks, 6 jetbikes, and 4 fire dragons, and its getting down to crunch time.

Honestly, how do you guys motivate yourselves? I find I used to be able to sit down and paint for hours and hours every day, and now I just cant, I get flat out bored. Im wondering if its because I've probably painted 300 eldar models since I started playing, and (and I know this is blasphemy because the models are gorgeous) I'm just getting tired of the style.

Whatever it is, I need to kick my butt in gear. How's everyone else coming along?

well, I paint for a living (Creepy Basement Studios...shameless plug!) so when I get time to paint MY stuff I jump on it!

Take it in chunks. don't look at that long list of things ya gotta get done, take it one squad at a time. I have found posting progress on here to help as well. One thing I always told the sales guys when I worked at GW was, don't say you "have to" paint your army, say you "get to paint your army!

And I can always do what my wife does for me...

"PAINT DAMN you!! PAINT!"  (at the top of my lungs)

isn't she a sweety!

I want to see pics, Targetawg, yesterday!

The way I'm doing the bases for the army, currently I'm assembly lining approximately 16 flying bases and 40-50 regular bases like this. Part of my boredom no doubt..

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv187%2Ftargetawg%2FEldar%2FBase.jpg&hash=f0094ae222dda2ada7e6878e4cd1c4228f33a4fd)

The Avatar, Sword isnt done obviously, and the bleached bone sections havent been inked/highlighted yet, but its on its way. I tried out a new glow effect in the cracks, I'm pretty happy with it. Also I tried an ashen look with glowing white edges for the armor, and Im pleased with that as well. I hate the base utterly, and he wont stand on it, thats gonna get redone, I may actually but (gasp) time into the next base :-p

....there you go Targetawg.  Looking great.  The grey on the Avatar looks really cool.

Concerning motivation:  I have found that this challenge has helped out a bit.  I have done it several times in the past and have always failed. This time I'm on a roll.  I want to complete all three months of the challenge.  Seeing your name with a little smiley next to it is all the motivation I need.   :P

Also, I never play with unpainted miniatures. so if I want to use them, I better get painting.  Plus my army is brand new (Tau) so I'm not bored with painting them (too much)...yet.  I know what you mean though,  the thought of painting Imperial Fists or Death Guard makes me a bit sick.  I find that simply doing it and not thinking about it helps a lot.  A lot of times I sit there and think:  okay 4 drones, thats 4 coats of midnight blue, 12 coats of red gore, 4 extreme highlights and a whole lot of grey extreme highlighting...scre w it, I'm going to do something else.  But if you just start, you end up in your own little painting world in which you aren't really thinking along those lines; you are thinking of painting in the lines.  I have a board set up near my painting station.  I like nothing better than finishing the base so that i can put the finished model on the table along with the rest of the guys and watch the army grow.

Nurgleboy77.  I like the conversion work and the painting looks cool so far.  the test model seems a bit dark.  Extreme highlighting will probably take it up a notch though so it will probably look great.  that is a very nice blue.  I would rather them stay blue than black.  Blue keeps them a bit more Eldarish.  If they were black, then they would be metal and black and metal isn't a very typical Eldar look.  they would look more fantasyish or SMy or something.

My progress:  one stealth suit needs extreme highlighting to the head and weapons and his lenses done.  4 drones need scarlet extreme highlighting and grey highlighting and lenses and they will be done.  leaving a sniper drone team (base coated) and two Vespid (unassembled.)  I'd fire off a couple picks but there is nothing new really and I have to run out the door to work.

Now you tell me, Ghost! When I'm almost done with them, in black! LOL

I basically took the black parts and made them blue and vice-versa. Black body suits and blue tabards/helmets. Pics later today, when they are done (Hopefully!)

Great looking Avatar, Targetawg! Doing that many basees IS boring I'm sure. My Avatar is in a similar state, I'll try and get a pic up. I am currently shifting him from a NMM copper to the metallics I am using for my army. Still figureing out the bugs in it though... I hate to screw up such a center piece, so I'm taking it a bit slow.

I was going to suggest doing what I did, which was painting the cloths on their belt the same color as the crests to get things a bit more even, but then I realized you couldn't... *looks at models* wait! you do have belt-cloths! So my suggestion stands.

I may do that, Cypher, if when I am done with all the bone areas, it still needs "evening out". They look too dark right now. The trim on the scale mail is going to be that bone color as well so it'll lightwn up whne finished. I like the blue cloth though. It's only on the head, belt, and bit of skirt under the scale mail.

Very nice paint, but the way he(it)'s balancing on the base looks too unrealistic and immediately draws your attention away from the model. If you want to do a base of rubble and dead dudes, make sure you give the model a place to stand with at least one foot mostly flat.

Oh, he's a boss? I thought he was a nob! I'd go as far as to say that this model would not be woosy-wig as a boss. it's based off of a boy(you can tell if you know what to look for), and except for being on a heightened base, is exactly the same size as a nob. It's also not technically legal because of the base size. Warbosses are on 40mm bases, and you can't mount a model on a smaller base than it came with-- even a conversion from a completely different model. Just don't use it in a tourny. ;)

What I suggest: Make this model count as a nob, but because you seem bent on having a massive scenic base, put him on a 40mm base anyway. That way you can put all of his crapolla around him instead of him balancing on top of it (which it still does look like he's doing), maybe with one foot on a small piece of rubble or something. Then, go out and buy a boss model and convert it to your heart's content and do it for next month's painting challenge so we all can see.

Maugan Ra
11 Guardians (4 are Vibro Cannon Crew)
6 Orion's Hounds

I think I'm just barely going to miss my mark due to the fact that none of the models I have left to paint are primed, I just ran out of primer, and am broke. Unless I can bum some primer/money off a friend, I'm on hold. Gah! I guess I can just do some omnipressent touch-up work.

Finally got some painting done (god I love bank holidays). Robes finished, most of the fiddly bits (skulls, holsters, chains etc) finished. Just the weapons and some tidying up to do. I might even finish on time.

Myung, don't use the flash! Set up a light above the mini and one to the sides. Small adjustable table lamps will do. This sets the light whee yo uwant it. Put you camera on a tripod also, it keeps the photos from getting blurry. Do both of these things and your pics will be much improved!

Well, looks like exams were too big a drain on my time to get the Avengers done in time.  Guess I'll just have to finish them next month.

Still getting the finishing off done. Just when I think I'm done I discover another missed skull, or a mistake that needs fixing. Still having trouble with the white on my apothecary too. Should be finished in time though. Reminds me, must put the batteries on charge.

Ok. I have actually failed my painting vow this month, I could of finished it but the stuff I had left was AI and I really didnt want to rush it (since its so expensive).

Trust me though without this vow I probably wouldnt of painted anything....next month will just have to be a little less ambitious.

So in the end managed to do 12 firewarriors (below) and 4 AI Tau Barracuda.

Vow complete!

well... sort of.

I finished my guardians, and my predator but the paintjob on the pred was absolutely F***ing awful. I tried to do something that was way out of my league (namely this (http://uk.games-workshop.com/goldendemon/2005season/images/winners/slayer.jpg))
and I failed miserably, so that little puppy is soaking in dettol..

I'll post pics of the guardians later/tomorrow

I'm failing this month as well I'm afraid, due to a number of reasons:

Completed:
5 Dark Reapers
1 Avatar

Incomplete:
2 Jetbike Warlocks
6 Jetbikes
4 Fire Dragons

Other stuff I've painted:
10 Grey Knights in PA with Nemesis Force Weapons

The main reason for my failure is... I've switched my games day army. Im doing my own space marine chapter instead of my eldar. My own space marine chapter means my grey knights in an un-neutered form that could be a competitor at a tournament.

Something like...Space Marine Parent List, Grey Knight Allies

Terminator Chaplain
10x Grey Knights in PA
-All in a LRC

3 Dreadnaughts, Venerable, Furious Charge, Assault Cannon, 2 with Heavy Flamer, 1 with Storm bolter

3 x 6 man marine squad, each with a lascannon

Thats at 1428 right now for me, looking to hit 1500.

To be honest the choice was made because I'll have less to paint to finish this army off, and I think marines look very nice with just a blacklined/1 highlight paintjob, as opposed to my eldar, which I find I cant bring myself to paint in under several hours per model, using shading/blending on each individual trooper. Basically, I want to take my time on them, and the space marines I think look better when a little rushed than eldar do.

Also I've always toyed with the idea of doing a space marine "training" chapter for either grey knights or deathwing, then taking the actual guys (GK or DW) as allies, so all of the models in the army will be GK paint scheme.

My next month vow, I'll post this in the next thread too, will be:

2x Dreadnaughts
1x Land Raider Crusader
1x Terminator Chaplain
3x 6 Man Marine Squad

And it'll have to be done by the 23rd ;).

Until next month!

Done. Finally tracked down (I think) all the mistakes, and done a satisfactory job on the white of my apothecary. I just need to base and then I'll post a pic, probably this afternoon.

*edit*

And done. 5 man command squad for DA successors, magnetised for arm swappage (with standard to follow) as vowed.

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi67.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fh294%2FSeriousCallersOnly%2FIMG_2599.jpg&hash=49a9ade7ac238c462dff047ae4ef1fde8896f74f)

Dammit, spotted 2 more mistakes on the apothecary. I'll correct them tonight.

For my next vow, I think either 2 character models or some vehicles.

That's the sort of night I'm having as well. I ended up repainting 1 gem and the teeth of three chainswords in the process of taking pictures, and their are two dark spots on the exarchs chestpiece crest that I couldn't even see until I took the picture, and which I have since corrected.

Here are the pics:

Scorpion Squad:

here are some pics of some of the stuff.  I left out the Vespid as they don't have sept markings yet.  I'll include them in a large shot of the whole army after three months work.

Stealth suits:

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi103.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fm159%2Fweb-ghost%2Fstealth22.jpg&hash=af1488d36c6b139a6bc49c6ebc30ba4f545ecf05)

and here is what a whole squad of six looks like:

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi103.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fm159%2Fweb-ghost%2Fstealth23.jpg&hash=7c75ce8e497a5d45392fef12900fe05ba59c2657)

Sniper drone team B:

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi103.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fm159%2Fweb-ghost%2Fsniper06.jpg&hash=1f020606fe29165080048326e40b5a9f89cb2baa)

I need to fix their sept markings a bit.  I was a bit tipsy when i did them.  Not the best idea.

Drones.  I don't remember which ones are the new ones so I just shot the whole mess.  There are 8 gun drones, two shield drones and two markerlight drones:

(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi103.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fm159%2Fweb-ghost%2Fdrones04.jpg&hash=8866bfa673e6374bff0c2bedeabeb301ce0c9aa9)

lousy pics (but good for doing them on my lunch break.)

Ughh....I failed my first vow!
I made it through about half of what I had intended to:
Finished 4 Brezerkers, 3/4 painted the rest of them.
Half painted the defilier (all those metal bits took WAY longer than I though they would)
3/4 painted the rhino.
Oh well. =[
Guess I'll finish them this month along with my other stuff.

I failed my vow, but I need to finish it today anyway for a tourny tomorrow. So I need to paint 7 Avengers, 3 Wraiths, and finish the avatar.

peace, I've gotta go paint!

Wow, those dire avengers are great, even if they took an extra day.

I really like the way webghost's Tau have been turning out as well. It's nice to see a Tau army actually painted. All the ones I ever play against seem to be raw plastic.

I managed all three! Not huge vows each month - 10 Initiates, 5 Assault Marines and 5 Scouts, but done nonetheless! I keep on spotting little bits to touch up, but thats just the course of things...I just need to find a camera now...

I'm going for a vehicle next week, a land-speeder my girlfriend gave me a year ago...I really do paint slowly...

Still, all contributing towards my Black Templar article! ***Coming Soon***

Thanks Magus_42.  I actually went to a tournament this weekend and there were three Tau armies, all of which were painted!  And two of them were pretty much the same scheme as mine.  I brought Death Guard though  (won best army!!) because I can still barely make 1250 with those Tau.

I made all three months of the spring challenge and am durned proud of it.  I need to do a couple more things (sept markings on a couple different things) and then I'll post up a pic of the whole army.

well here it is.  I tried to make it all artsy fartsy by adding in the background which is the top half of a painting of mine.  Didn't do much for the minatures as i had to cram them all in.  anyway:
