Basically I want some models like this for my Empire army to act as gunners. The current handgunners don't look right, even with the correct colour scheme they just don't seem British  ;D

Has anyone got any ideas as to what I could use?

Cheers
Anyone heard the Black and white Knight on the black and white horse before?

40K Mordian or Praetorian figures would be closest - you just need to cut off their hats and greenstuff your own, and maybe make the guns look more muskety.

That said, these are mail-order only, so it certainly wouldn't be cheap.

Another route to go would be to go online looking at historical mini makers - these would certainly be cheaper & require less conversion, but scale issues are likely to come up.

A third option is to convert the empire gunners by greenstuffing them new hats, etc. - I'm not familiar enough with the models to say how feasible that would be, however.

Wow!! I'm actually in this picture!

This is my re-enactment group!

As for what to use, I don't recommend Praetorian. They all have beards, and british red coats didn't unless you were a pioneer.

There are no current GW plastics that work - I know, I've looked! I've a big project converting a bunch of pratorians to look like our group (your pic), but have come across the problem with the frequent beards, and that metal is very hard to re-sculpt.

I'd recommend the Mordian metals, if you're willing to try metal. Add cross belts and a trotter pack (the square black thing on the backs with a blanket rolled on top). The lasguns can be lengthened with plastic dowel and greenstuff to make more musket like weapons. Basically that's my experience thus far!

You might take a look at Perry Miniatures

They have a 28mm Napoleonic range that might fit what you're looking for.

They are WAY too small - I bought a bunch of their 28mm minis as I needed the camels (for my WIP roughriders), and the guys are absolutely dinky next a 40K mini.

There made from "Hard Plastic". So might work for you. There also mutipart figures witch will help with the conventions.

If you'd like to try making some recoats, I've made some tutorials covering how to make redcoat componants from Cadians. I'm sure the process could be adapted to fit Empire handgunners.

The finished article looks a bit like this:
