Rapid Fire Weapons and Assaulting
« on: August 28, 2002, 04:22:32 AM »
Okay a little prob at my club came up.

A Space Marine which doesn't move in the movement phase can shoot 2 shots within 12" or 1 at 24"

A SM which does move in the movement phase can only shoot 1 shot at 12"

In the same assault phase, a SM can't assault if they fired 2 shots at 12", but are within 6"??????? ie. You Rapid fire, you can't assault cause your not alloud to move.  This is the part I disagree on.

In the rule book it says you can fire if you have not moved, which I interperet as moving phase only, not what you are going to do in the assault phase, and have done so for many years, and had no probs with opponents for all that time. Then this came along.
What No! 1 measily inch, 1 stupid insignifcant inch out of assault range! No!!!!!!! Please Emporer No!!!!!!

You have to remain stationary for the whole turn. If you rapid fire a weapon or fire a heavy weapon then you can't charge anymore.

Thats what happens when Andy Chambers gets stoned while writing rules. Thats happened to me aswell. I think its stupid that you can't assault after rapid firing, so i just allow it in my own games; house rules. No ones gonna stop u except the warhammer police  :P ;D

Do whatever makes you feel good, though assaulting DOES count as moving (i.e. if you fire heavy weapons you can't assault). Just say you can assault after rapid firing, though it is a rare situation.

Well the 3rd edition rules (current) are not very well thought out, mabey your answer will be in 4th edition rules. More brilliant work by Andy Chambers and Jervis Johnson  :P :P :P Any way i agree with 'Archon Astaroth', though i usually play that you may charge (as i said before).

Your not supposed to be able to assult because no movement means no movement no matter what phase your in, but if you have a house rule and the people agree play it the other way

The rule is on page 62:
"A unit of warriors that remained stationary in the movement phase in order to fire heavy and/or rapid fire weapons cannot assault as it is assumed to be spending the whole turn shooting."

So if you move you can assault.  :)

Now, here is the big Q's, If i have one squad with 2 heavy weapons, and 8 rapid, can i fire the 8 rapid, and still move into assult, or does the whole squad have to stand still.
