my hardened veteran (WIP)

So, I just primed my first hardened vet (you can see the conversion by clicking here). I'll be putting up more pictures as I get him painted. Here he is so far:

I'm thinking of painting the flak armor black and the shirt and paints the same grey with polygon splotch pattern as I use for the rest of my army.

Thanks. The necron glow-rod will NOT be painted.

And here's an update! I got the basecoat done (wow, that was easy) and painted the mask for good measure.

I'm a little concerned that the grey (which is going to have fortress grey highlights) is going to be too bright. What do you think?

I think it looks good so far. The conversion is pretty neat, but also rather simple (excellent). Can't wait to see it all painted up and based.

read your conversion, i like the idea and the model looks feakin awesome!
I think, because of teh idea behind the men, that both looks (clean or grungy) can be used, but since you want it to be a ritualized unit, make them look clean and bright, as if the emperor is shining through them as they sacrifice thier bodies for the impiriom
Still I lay cold, my soul seeks light / my eyes are tired; my heart's last fight
Around my shell of wood and cloth / trickle sound of wound and loss.
Broken voices of tears and cry's / sorrow and love for a Nation's son's life.
Mother and Father alone in thought. / Of the bravery and pain in the battle we fought.
We move slowly we three welcomed home. / A parade of silence, hands and flags wave
Above our bodies, they gather as on, / Along this highway of heroes for two seconds of light.

That´s a very unique conversion. Very nice.

How many vets of that type do plan to field in your army (LatD, IG)?

<off topic> They can, with opponent's permission, loot from any squad. However, they loot the squad's weapon and transport options, not it's basic armament. So no gauss flayers. </off topic>

Very nice - is this going to be one of the plasma gunners?

Have to say those veterans are going to look SWEET when painted and based. They will look very dark and disturbing when lined up next to your normal troops!

 Hey Ailaros very nice...

As Purg stated the conversions is rather simple (???) but neat and beautiful... Now I haven't tried doing a mask or hair but if Purg says so...

The rod looks good in the plasma gun... I can't wait to see more of the painted Sgt!

I didn't mean simple as in "easy to make" (I'm having a hard time sculpting hair myself), I meant simple as in "elementary". He made a conversion that made the model stand out from the regular guardsman, but it was nothing over the top - and thus "excellent" as I stated in my first post.

And yeah, Ailaros is a way better converter than I am.

Mannn if that rifle is going to be the plasma rifle, it'd look mint.

I really like where this is going.

Thank you all very much

This was actually the effect that I was going for. I wanted something that still looked like it was a normal soldier, but with a few key differences. Basically, I'm trying to avoid making these guys look like the "aspect warriors" of my army. Unlike with my dragoons, though, I'm trying to make them look different enough to look noticeably different.

Anyways, here are the next couple of pictures:

basically, I did all of the clothing in the same camo pattern that my troops have for just their pants, as well as the plasma gun. I'm starting to be tempted with the idea of painting the armor the same brown with teracotta highlights (which would look pretty), rather than black. If I do black, though, I can paint with "blood" on the armor. Hmm, what do you think?

I don't know about blood, but I think they'd look very nice in the same terracotta colour as the rest of your army. I reckon the masks and sashes will set them apart enough to make them stand out.

Some splashes of blood on the armor would look nice... But nothing that would seem too gory!
