New Year, New Armies and More: Reveals from the New Year?s Open Day - Warhammer

If you scroll down to below the Thousand Sons part of the 40K section, there are interesting developments for the forces of the undead.  This looks much more exciting than anything else that has been hinted at or alluded to for undead forces previously, so maybe this is the start of a clearer and more organised approach to the undead.  What do you think?  I certainly hope so.

Looks to me like no new units, but allegiance abilites, battalions and artifacts being added to death, which they really need. I am really curious to find out more on how it's divided, and if my flesh eaters will be included too.

Looks like three different subfractions, each based around a different one of the mortarachs, which is really neat. They are such cool characters and need more screen time.

The Mortarch factions is of significant interest to me as well.  What I'm really hoping for though is enhanced narrative and a more cohesive approach to the forces of the undead.  This book looks as though it's going to achieve many of these objectives, so I will be very tempted to buy it.

I agree. The battletomes so far are 80% narrative play stuff and background, so this will likely be no different.

Looks like the book is going to be on pre-order this weekend. Looks like a good source of interesting rules, and fluff.

First teaser is up for Legions of Nagash!

Legions of Nagash: The Grand Host of Nagash and New Summoning - Warhammer

I'm really liking the way this is looking. I hope my Flesh Eaters are wrapped into this book!

The key here will be finding out which units have the summonable key word.  I suspect that a number of the more specialised and/or elite units will not be able to benefit from regeneration as a result of this change.  Whether this is balances out during the course of a battle relative to the stacking effect remains to be seen.

I actually think that undead armies rely heavily on magic more than resilience, so I don't agree with how the army is being presented in the article.  It's the power of dark and death magic which makes all those skeletons and zombies such a threat, combined with damage dealing spells.  I remain to be convinced that this is going to be conveyed by the mechanics which have been revealed thus far.

Looks to me like the just want to clean up he old summoning mechanic. I think this will be a lot cleaner. Instead of leaving huge swaths of empty points in your list for summoning, you can just place units you bought into reserves. Allows the death wizards more opportunity to actually cast their spells.

Looks like heroes will be critical for the army staying alive, and you'll want heros anyway, as they buff the units though abilities and spells.

I look forward to seeing more.  I wonder if my flesh eaters will be wrapped into this book.

If you like spells, there is a teaser of the first of the three mortarachs forces.

It's great to see the Lore of Vampires making a welcome return.  The forces of the undead were crying out for greater diversity in magic, so this seems like a very promising development all round.
