WIP 13th Company of Ultramar
« on: October 5, 2008, 01:42:29 PM »
Well in order to use up these AoBR models I started up an SM army.

But its missing something. Im thinking of thin gold straps along edges.
Any Sujestions?

When the Biel-tan fled there home worlds they left behind many living people on many worlds, however unknown to them a world survived unharmed and unchanged there name was forever changed to Althan.

Honestly the black parts look unfinished, like they were just undercoated and not painted. If they are intended to be black, then highlight them in dark gray.

The helmet especially needs the details picked out. There's all sorts of little bits on the helmet to pick out and make it the focal point of the model (second maybe to the enormous phallic symbol that is his bolter ::)). Most importantly though are his eyes. Marines without painted eyes seem lifeless. When I paint my marines eyes (which are bring blue with a slight glowing light effect), it seems to imbue them with a soul, and they look finished. Go with something contrasting, like orange, yellow, red, or something similar.

The blue armor could use a wash and a highlight, both on the marine and the rhino. Some of the metals could use a wash too, but you seem to have made them reasonably smooth, unlike the globby mess others sometimes produce.

And the marine needs to be based. The more I look at this, are these guys WIP? It just didn't seem like if from your description. Anyways, you've done a decent job so far. The best quality I see is that the paint is even and not clumpy, which leaves you free to add all sorts of nice details. :)

Yep very much WIP (opps for not posting that bit.)
I hit a road block at that stage and lost all ideas.

Ok. I would just "finish" the guys without any extra stripes or things for now. Finish the armor, wash the stuff I suggested, and see what turns out. The models might look a lot more completed at that point, maybe with just a stripe on the shoulder pad or something to finish them off.

I'm thinking of using this

for the heradry.

Everything around the shield is just eye candy and doesn't count.
The important part is the shield.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This heraldry is for my family and under very old rules ( older then copyright) only members/descendent of the family can use it.

Ok I was going to suggest that, but wasn't sure if you could do that to a coat of arms. In that case it's very doable. I'd suggest using tape to make the very straight lines for the cross and shield, then just very carefully do the red bits with a detail brush. Perhaps use the "cutting" method on the 5 pronged star in the middle, though with yellow it's going to be a pain.

The Rhino would look great with a little battle damage on it.  Genetically engineered super-Scots as Marines sounds cool to me.
Everyone else is doing it so...Behold the great General's gaming blog!
Armies: ULTRAmarines!, Necron, Vampire Counts, Pure Nurgle CSM.
Work-in-progress armies:Tau, Orks, Empire.

Agreed that the tank looks boring without damaged but
WERE NOT SCOTS !!were Irish and English.(sorry had to get it out of my system) ;D
If I was to do the full blended COA I would deffinatly have to get a decal made up. :o
With 4 (known)COA's I have alot of heraldry to use.

Sorry.  The pic you posted looks like it has the Scottish flag on it (being decendant from arguably the strongest of the Highland Clans, I can usually recognize it)  You might look into making your own transfers.  Ask your local hobby store if they carry blank Transfer sheets that you can use in a printer.

Sweet! the paint job is nice and clean (that's good in my book, I like straight lines!).

Nice colors, can't wait to see how they'll turn out.
