« on: November 26, 2009, 04:16:47 AM »
I just read about the micro set setting solution for decal and bought one. However i already have my whole army decaled, and some look really bad. Will applying micro set now help? or is there any way?

As long as you have not used a clear coat over the models, then they can be moved.  However, I think you'd be better off with the micro-sol for this application.  Although you have to be careful not to pull up the paint underneath and tear the decal.

As has been said, as long as you haven't varnished the models you should be able to remove the decals fairly easily.

You don't actually really even need the Micro Sol to be honest.

Get a Standard Size Brush (make sure its clean) and some clean water.

Using the brush flood the decal with water and leave for a few seconds and you should then be able to lift the decal back off. Its how I got rid of all mine (have promised myself never to use decals again...urgggh!)
Dig in, and wait for winter.

Whether they're lacquered or not is the problem.  The decals themselves are water soluble- remember soaking them in water before removing them from the sheet?

I'd be wary of using any solvent on painted models.  The decals themselves are very fragile, so solvent isn't a good idea if you want to reuse them, and I would worry about the solvent distorting the paint (though I'm confident that this "solvent" is mostly water).

The micro-sol and micro-set are designed to be used with decals.  I've used it on several occasions and the micro-sol allows you to form the decal to not flat shaped surfaces much more easily.  It works quite well.

Thanks people, but what I want to ask is that my decals look bad and have wrinkles. Now i wanna know if applying micro-set on them will help smooth them and give them a painted look. i don't want to remove them cause I got no extra decals left.  :'( Will brushing micro-set on them cure the wrinkle and smooth the look?

Just as as aside Decal Softener is primarily Acetic Acid.

Household Vinegar is also about 15% Acetic Acid.

So if you want a cheap Decal Softener you can use household vinegar (white vinegar will be your best bet).
