eBay auctions: Still serious serious business.... I don't want any seriousness of that kind in this thread.

The painting's nice enough, certainly better than mine. I'd consider it high-grade tabletop quality. Be that as it may, the force lacks the customisation I'd expect in a display army and the army selection I'd expect in a gaming army. Add the price tag to that, and I pity the fool who purchases this.

Giving you a grand total of................1 731 pts... well well.... more than I thought LOL

Well, what do you expect when you arm your Storm Trooper veteran with 3 weapons and have your infantry platoons commanded by senior officers. ::)

That does indeed look like tabletop quality at best, even up close.

I offered my services for a 3rd of the money and painted larger armies (probably faster) at the same standard for that. (Guess I'm just daft. Could've been rich by now  :-\)

Anyways, the army is, in my opinion, not worth the money.
Now, if it was painted in this standard I would consider paying $1500 for an army:

Doesn't "pro painted" simply mean "professionally painted" - meaning the person has enough skill that they could earn a livelyhood by painting?  If so, this meets that standard, though I agree with the complaints made above.

What I agree with is that it isn't "master class" or "golden daemon" quality.  Indeed, while it is solid, it is uninspired and apparently done by rote.  It has no "pop".  Part of that is colour scheme, part of it is lack of conversions (and those that are done, like the sandbags, are done poorly - sandbags have corners!) and part of it is that unless you are picking up the minis and squinting at them, the models look rather lack-luster.

However, IMHO, he can price the thing however he wants.  It is no insult to me - a seller can ask for whatever he or she wants.  Doesn't mean he won't be disappointed, as I agree that few people would pay that much for that army.  That said, all it takes is one, and if he manages to sell it, kuddos to him.

(Image removed from quote.)

My painting isn't much behind that, and I only consider myself average.  Not to mention he's used far too much gloss, and the conversion is a little too over the top for my tastes.

To be honest, I wouldn't pay for a pre-painted army.  I much prefer making my own.

seconded.
I get the hint of a little jealousy
Why do you have any examples of a pro and their work

well yes i do - as i said check out:

tom schadles on www.minivault.com

victoria lamb - use google or look in most golden daemons

jakob rune nielsen - again check out most golden daemons...

thats pro standard for the right price - im sure if you checked out tom schadle's prices for squads and did some maths, it'd come out a little more expensive - but the quality and colour'd be SPOT ON!

a post wasted eh mods?  >:(

Well I buy and sell tanks on Ebay. I buy the Russes and do em up in my white with red like mine and sell them back but for fractional fee. That could be my profession but it isn't. And I definately don't consider myself pro. This guy's paint is good but for me it does not stand out.

Either way I think this thread has gone a bit far off.

I wouldn't consider an already built and painted army, thats half the fun for me and because of it I may end up feeling like I have cheated if I field an amazing army that someone else made. I hardly even play nowadays, I just convert and paint. Plus what happens when you wish to add a unit, you gotta learn to do it the same yourself.

I'd love to buy an old metal IG army.  Painted/Unpainted doesn't really matter that much, as metals are pretty damned easy to strip and rebase.

Here is the way that I see it

In or around £800  golden daemon :o

Top of the heap not seen very often but one scene never forgotten this. Will feature a lot of conversions excellent painting quality something about it but it on a different level in regards to all others. Makes you willing to pay top dollar for it, flawless in every way possible the balance of painting would be throughout the whole project would scream quality all those players privileged to see it up close as very few will. It will be likely that you will probably never see one of these in the flesh

In or around £600 professionally painted (Pro) ;D

A great pro job, that will no doubt be painted to the highest standard as well with conversions probably something that would win the best painting category at a tournament .These people should be aiming to win at golden daemon.

In or around £400 :D

This would be to have very good level with some hidden gems conversion and painting will no doubt be to a very good level the best of what you would probably find at the game's workshop store you normally go to and that most gamers will reach, in regards to his or her expertise.

In or around £200 ;)

The best of what a gamer will halve to offer it will no doubt of conversion work but this will not be polished not the same standard as the above as will the painting etc will be to tabletop standard the best of what you would probably find that most gamers will ever aspire to.

In or around £000  :-[

I think we all know what this category would be

I've considered it, but when it comes down to it I'd never do it, I prefer to put together armies myself.
