Court of the Young King 2k brigade
« on: November 11, 2017, 02:24:10 PM »
After giving it some consideration, I decided that the idea of a Court of the Young King list was too cool to pass up. Since we now have plenty of strategems, and cheaper Aspect warriors, I think it would be fun to try out a brigade detachment. Here’s what I’m thinking so far:

2,000 pt Biel Tan Brigade

Avatar of Khaine
Farseer w/ Doom & Fortune, Spirit Stone of Anath’lan (Warlord Trait: Natural Leader)
Warlock w/ Protect/Jinx

4 x 5 Dire Avengers, inc. Exarch w/ 2 ASC
2 x 5 Rangers

2 x 5 Fire Dragons, inc. Exarch w/ DBF
10 Striking Scorpions, inc. Exarch w/BB
5 Wraithguard w/ D-scythes

6 Shining Spears, inc. Exarch w/ SL
6 5 Swooping Hawks, inc. Exarch
6 5 Warp Spiders, inc. Exarch w/ 2 DS

3 x 3 5 Dark Reapers, inc. Exarch (thinking of trying out a couple different loadouts on these guys)
+ 2 Wraithlords w/BL, Shuriken Cannon, Flamer, Shuriken Catapult

I’m debating on whether I should group the Dark Reapers into one squad, in which case, I would drop the Wraithguard squad in favor of 2 Wraithlords probably.

Tactics: Hawks, Spiders, and Scorpions go in reserve. Rangers infiltrate to help mitigate alpha strike. Pretty much everything else forms a blob and helps deliver Avatar into combat. If needed, Fire Dragons and/or Wraithguard can Webway Assault into the enemy’s back lines to help destroy armor and disrupt.

Feedback is welcome, thanks!

While I always try to advocate trying anything once, I think this list will fall prey to any list with strong anti-infantry. No armor to protect your short-ranged specialist units (such as the Fire Dragons) will be a problem for you. No opponent worth his salt is gonna send vehicles or monsters near those dragons before he's killed them, which is easy to do.  Also, foot-slogging D-scythes are easy to out-maneuver

If I were you, I would sacrifice something to include 2 Serpents, one for the Dragons, the other for the Wraithguard. I realize in a brigade, you have very little room to mess around with points, which I why I don't play it myself. You'd have to sacrifice quite a bit to squeeze those serpents in there, so it may not be appealing. I would therefore recommend you consider using a Battalion detachment along with a Spearhead detachment and a Vanguard detachment. That still gives you 8 CP, which is quite nice.
"Consider the battlefield: it is essentially a dawn in grim guise. It is a scenario in which darkness meets light and is annihilated by it.
Imagine that the enemy are the shadows lurking in the night - The arrival of our warhost is like the sun's light breaking the horizon. Let the Bladestorm expel the darkness."

I would suspect he would use the webway to deep strike the dragons.

However, I agree that the list feels very soft save for the Avatar.

I like that you are trying out a Biel-Tan brigade,I was thinking of going Biel-Tan but went Ulthwé instead.

I think you should merge the reapers and get the wraithlords, preferably with bright lances. They can provide you with some nice long range anti-tank. Then I think you should swap out Fortune for Guide, since you have no Autarch, and those reapers could take good advantage of it when merged.

I am also a bit worried about the delivery of those fire dragons, maybe you could take 5x wraithguards and drop in as it saves you 2CP and they will likely soak up lot more damage after they have completed their task, potentially hitting a secondary target, that the second unit of dragons would have taken care off.

Ego in propria persona, non compos mentis.

Thanks for the feedback! I agree that this list has few hard targets. My plan is to use the Webway Strike stratagem to put the Fire Dragons and/or Wraithguard exactly where they are needed. Regarding restructuring the detachment, I normally do use a battalion plus one of the more specialized detachments. However, when I was grouping the units I'd like to use, it was so close to being a brigade already, I decided to go for it and see what happens.

Thanks! I was also seriously considering Ulthwe for this list, but decided to err on the side of fluff. I can always try out Ulthwe later if I don't care for the Biel Tan set of rules. It looks like if I drop one squad of Fire Dragons, merge the Reapers into one unit, and use wraithcannons instead of D-scythes, I can fit 2 wraithlords in. And I forgot to include it in the list above, but I'm planning on using the Natural Leader warlord trait for a free, un-Deny-able Guide.

I think I'm going to like Jinx: it's similar to Doom in that it works like a force multiplier across multiple units.
