Autumn Painting Challenge [Month 2/3]
« on: September 30, 2008, 05:49:23 AM »
Welcome to the Painting Challenge. We are now into the 2nd year of these, first under Loydb, myself, Serious Callers Only, Ffarquhar and now me again. The goal of this challenge is to get some of that unpainted lead that most of us have laying around table-ready. At the start of each month, participants pledge to have a squad painted by the closing date.

I will update this post with a list of people who wish to vow.

RULES

1. Vows will be frozen 10 days after the start of the challenge. There is no changing of *any* vow after day 10. Say what you'll paint, then paint what you say. If you don't already own the models you want to paint, I suggest not making the vow until you do.  Vows are still accepted after the 10th, but they can not be changed afterwards.

2. This is more of a request than a rule. *Please* post work in progress pics if you possibly can. One of the best things about the thread is watching stuff come together.  It's perfectly fine if you don't post any photos, however.

3. I need to know unit sizes when you post your vows.

FAQ
Q: Do I have to do Games Workshop figs?
A: No. Several people make Warmachine vows.  Feel free to do vows based on any game system.

Q: I need to change my vow!
A: You have until Day 10 of the month.

Q: What if I don't have a camera?
A: We operate on the honour system. If you say you did it, we believe you. There are no prizes, so you only get the satisfaction of lying on the internet if you choose to do so.

Q: Will you do one of these every month?

A: That's the goal. Assuming the board manages to stay up

Q: Hey, what if we finish our vow but decide to paint more?
A: Paint away! If you mean, can you get a head start on next month, I guess so. But it's kind of cheesy to make a vow with a 75% painted unit at the start of the month...

Q: But wait, isn't it spring?
A: Yes, yes it is. However, we must respect our crazed brothers in the northern hemisphere. They started this, after all.

        - 1 Hammerhead + 1 Devilfish ( had some paint splashed on them  work done on them  a few months back , would be nice to finish them off . Eventually .)

As I`m returning to a hobby after a long break, (I pretty much missed the previous edition)these threads are invaluable for motivation.

Trying to make a Dark Eldar army, with a brigand style about them, ie most of the look and weapons will be pretty random .

I have no idea how this will turn out.

My pledge will be to finish a raider that Ive had on hold for too many years , and build and paint a 10 man squad to go with it.

Progress:

I cheated a little, the first Piranha is already ~90% finished as it was my first one done as a test (still needs pilots and gun drones).  The other 2 were primed and base coated this week.  As you can see I like painting in sections then assembling.

Sooo, I got a little carried away this evening and finished my whole vow.  Here are the pics of my 4 nurgle terminators:

So, now that this vow is finished, I vow a nurgled out vindicator or a pair of them if I have another night like tonight.

This is my first time making a vow, and so I start off with a newly aquired Dark Angels army that needs some love and paint.

1 half painted Dark Angel Terminator
1 Landspeeder
Sammael in his Lanspeeder
WHEN IN DOUBT, KILL IT WITH FIRE.

There is always room for doubt
