Assault cannons are really useful vs light vehicles like those used by the eldar (Trust me, i know from personal experience)

You do realize rending doesn't roll an extra dice vs Waveserpents right?
Stars, I have seen them fall,
But when they drop and die
No star is lost at all
From all the star-sown sky.
The toil of all that be
Helps not the primal fault;
It rains into the sea,
And still the sea is salt.

Only from the front.
An assault cannon to the side or rear can still rend a wave serpent.

Hmm. As it happens I've just modeled an old rhino I bought at a charity shop (£1.50!!) into a assaultback- though I'm not going to stick the top panel so I can switch it out for a rhino.
As for the modelling aspect it was actually a piece of cake! The kit I got was pretty old (not sure if it's up to date) but it came with a slot for a razorback, even thought it didn't have the guns themselves. The turret slot uses the same turret size as a Land raider, so fitting the twin ACs from a crusader came easy.

Incidentilly they cannot rend from the sides also. Only from the rear. And against any intelligent eldar player you will never see  serpent's behind with the razorback. With speeder - possible, with razorback - no fat chance.

I'll have to check the codex... but I'm pretty sure the wave serpent energy field only works on the front arc.
You can rend the sides.

The field defends the Wave Serpent on both the front and side arc. (p. 45)

Heh. My mistake.
I've always had it in my head it was front only.

HB should be your default just because of price.  The tl-heavy flamer is pretty bad on a slow vehicle, you could bring witch hunters allies if you really want something like that.  LC and AC variants would be alright, but I think you'd really want a bunch of them.  Like 6 with other mech saturation as well...

I've only seen an AC razorback fielded once.  It was also by a white scars player.

Ironically, he was using it to proxy a HB razorback.   :P
