Two bolts of change fired at a sentinel squadron which happened to stand in a tightly packed imperial guard army. Both exploded with a 6" radius, the first explosion caught 21 guardsmen, the second even 35. Out of these, 25 were wounded and killed.hoe did you manage that?
I was wondering the same.
a heavy bolter support squad reducing a great unclean to one wound from shooting and ccit was alot more than that, now, no need to exaggerate.
20 conscripts reducing a chaos lords renitue to one plague marine and himself from shooting and ccit was alot more than that, now huggernot.
Last but definitely the finniest all my plasma gunners all died on the same turn due to over heating i was guard at the time in case you don't realiseall one of them.
this is getting kinda boring so on a 6 my librarian trips over a beer bottle and his sword splits an atom and kills us all .. all independant characters will get a 6+ invulnrable save so they have a chance of surviving.
Dagon(my great unclean one) Arrived VIA a dead demonhost into a combat with some chaos raptors. He then rolled instability and got a 16, died out right. He came then left in the blink of an eye.
More of a General 40K thing than a SM specific Topic.
Can I still keep it here?
and Iron Toe ha, tell me about it same thing with grey knights and Tau ;D
The most recent game I played was a Nightfight using the Cityfight set in which I fielded a Fireprism with no one in the turret. Two turns in a row I flew close to a Scout squad that was out in the open and lined-up a shot only to roll a 2 to hit both times. Four more times I tried to shoot but the turret gunner was "looking the other way."
Its a bit late, but they didn't need to take a test as they were shooting at the closest large target.
Two consecutive games (1000pts). Both games, My Falcon(decked out properly) was destroyed by the first thing that shot at it.Update!
First game was from a venom cannon on a fex, second was from two melta-guns in a sisters squad. *Sigh*
In both games it was harboring 5 harlequins with kisses. I managed to draw the first game (probably would have won, but we where cut short); I lost the second rather severely.
The first time my Eldar (unexpectedly) faced the Imperial Guard Armoured Company! Oh was I nervous. I didn't have a single Missile Launcher and only 1 Brightlance! The only other tank busting power I had in my 750 point army was the Wraithlord in close combat and my Close combat oriented Seer Council (Witchblades and Singing Spears). I had allied with a Tau player - just 1 Hammerhead as anti tank.
And we faced a shield of Tyranids in front of those tanks :-\
Ended up a draw though! :)
i got 16 6's in a row that game then i got a 1 ( the dice are not loaded i got them at a drugstore)Now what are he odds of that happening?
In a 28 man tournament, playing for the third place with my mechanized list (3 falcons, 2 serpents) vs. deathguard. I got first turn, moved everything and shoot some marines up. His turn: Both of his predators downed one falcon (of course equipped with holofields) each, a serpent died to a plasma pistol and it went downhill from there... although i did manage to destroy one of the offending preds :P
If you play with 3 Holofield Falcons even if it's in a tournament, that's what you get. You will not be at the Emperor's mercy if you go about it like that.

My barbed strangler on my sniperfex is inaccurate to epic purpotions.
My Doomed LatD Aspring Champion Turned a Fully Loaded Hive Tyrant into a spawn, then the both of them charged and killed the remaining Tyrant Guard.
Both of them? Did the aspring champion have multiple personalities or a partner in crime?
Only units with a gun like a lascannon can shoot at a big creaqture and ignore a squad of little guys.

Wrong. You may shoot at either the closest unit or the closest large target without taking a targeting test. No matter who's shooting.
My archon charging a squad of 7 tau firewarriors, I killed 6, and the 7th one killed my 175 Pt archon.

I remember when i first started to paint. Well i had a night force, so my whole army was black (no highlights, just black), and they had red heads. So i painted a couple of marines with the brush, but painting the whole plastic model black was tedious. So i decided to dip the next model into the paintpot...hehe. He is forever a blob. Just a giant ball of paint now. O well.
glued 2 fingers together... (took a knife to separate...)
Quoteglued 2 fingers together... (took a knife to separate...)
Oh yes, i know of this problem
When i got the "Battle of Skullpass" box, i was happily cutting the models from the sprues. The last bit was that shaman tent thingie. My knife wasnt exactly sharp, so i kind of tried to saw it loose... into my direction of course. Oh and i succeded... to cut deeply into my finger, straight to the bone (the knife was sharp enough after all). I raced of to the bathroom, grapped a toilet paper, wrapped it into a roll, and tied it around my finger. I only had to replace them 2 times before the bleeding stopped.

yeah I've learned that lesson well. I cut off the whole top part/pad of my thumb once working on a conversion. I was worried it wouldn't grow back. It did.*Gets sick all over the gaff*ouch
Er dude...you cannot have possibly cut straight to the bone! Otherwise...I mean...such a wound won't heal if you just "go to the bathroom". So what did u do? Hospital?
You need to be very careful with these type of injuries though... to not infect it... I did the same with a preserved food can... I thought the top was loose but it wasn't enough to be able to take it with my hand... I've really pulled hard... so my right ring finger has a scar of about 1 or 2 cm long... I was lucky my mom was there and she is nurse... if not, straight at the hospital...QuoteEr dude...you cannot have possibly cut straight to the bone! I did cut myself at the top of my right index finger, around 1 cm behind the nail, just before the joint. Its not difficult to cut to the bone, since its right under the skin. I still carry the mark. Now my first thought was to drown it in superglue, but on second thought, toilet paper seemed to be the less painfull alternativ ;D

This next one is most recent. It involved two 13th Companies. Me and my friends.
It was turn 5. It had been a greusome bloody battle. Only thing left is My Wolflord 2 wounds, and my Rune Priest with 1 wound.
Him: 1x Runepriest with 1 wound.
We are 6 inches apart. His turn. He runs up, whips out the bolt pistol, and fires a shot at the Rune priest. It hits, it wounds, I fail my 2+ and the rune priest bites it. I charge my wolf lord at his Rune priest. He gets 6 str5 attacks, I get 7. We both kill each other. On turn 6 there was not a single model left on the board. It was the first time I ever heard of a battle that was so bloody it was a deffinitive and literal draw. We both had 1500 victory points. It was amazing.

( sorry Spot :'()Please, you didn't name your dog Spot...
my first gaming group were pretty mean to one of the guys we played with. one day we were having a 3 way battle, and one of the guys left to go to the bathroom. he was doing well, his dreadnought was ripping up my friend. well, we were on the second story and the window was open, so my friend grabbed the dreadnought and tossed it right out the window onto the patio! (dont worry, the paint job was garbage so it wasnt much of a loss)
Khorne versus Space marines, 2 of my friends were facing eachother and the Khorne player just started playing with them.
so the berzerkers get gunned down, and everything dies. Only 3 champions and a lord stands on the field. [we play whipe the opponent every now and then] the SM player said: Well seems rather pointless for you, would you like to give up?
The khorne playerl ooked up with a question mark above his face and said: Why? i still have my champions and its my turn.
Then proceeded to whipe away the whole SM army with just 4 models. Priceles :P

I fired a d-cannon barrage and it scattered 6 inches and killed eldrad and an Autarch!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The one and only time I tried a GK Purgation Squad (with four Psycannons), I got a perfect alignment on a Greater Daemon at a mere 6" away. With a selfcontent smile I rolled the dices..., 2 hits and none of them wounded... aieeeeee!!!!
Every moment is horrible for me when it comes to facing an Iron Warriors-army with SIX OBLITERATORS! Always get crushed whenever I face six Obliterators.
Having a good time with the guys, drank a few too many beers and fell asleap arguing about incoherant rules, woke up in the game club the next morning.....
32 guants killed by a flamer in one turn ???, I remain skeptical- can you fit 32 guants under a flamer template. Any way if it did happen, give that flamer a medal- made up for its points cost ;D.

Not exactly. I watched a game as my friend played a nid player. The nid player just picked his guants up and piled them into a trench. My friend moved one squad over and had a flamer in it. He took out the template and was able to cover the entire trench. He asked the nid player how many he thought were under the template too.32 guants killed by a flamer in one turn ???, I remain skeptical- can you fit 32 guants under a flamer template. He didn't say "a flamer", he said "a flamer squad". So that could be a couple flamers and a bunch of bolters, or a bunch of flamers or... who knows?
But anyway, not a single flamer all on its own, which would, as you imply, be impossible.
Whirlwind scattered into my 5 man terminator squad, rolled 4 ones.
What are some of yours?
Back when i first started playing (2nd edition) a mate of mine got himself a shiny new lemon russ and he loved it. Every game he would place this thing on the board with such reverance, the very linch pin in his operation. And not once did it last past the first turn. be it through thunder hammer or hunter seeker missile it always ended up a smoking wreck. it was hard not to laugh as he put it back in its box with that hurt look on his face. ;D
drop pod/teleport assualt termies?
my friends terminator squad killed 3 squads in one turn of assault... it consolidated from one to the next each time ( a lesson not to ever group your army that close)
Earlier today (or yesterday if your technical) I was playing a blood angels army using 2 rhinos to sheild the death company from shooting. Out comes the 6 man transport buster unit of warspiders. 5 normal guys do nothing, all 10 shots hit and not a single 5 or 6. The single spineret rifle shot, hits, rolls a 6 to penetrate, followed by a 6 to blow it up and kills 3 death company in the explosion.
Wow... Where to begin...
I lost a 6 man terminator unit to 5 lasguns... In one shooting phase...
I killed an Avater with a bolt pistol...
I took out Abaddon, Fabius Bile and 6 chosen chaos terminators with a demolisher cannon that was not even firing at them...
I beat a cheesy Eldar starcannon (old rules) army with SM...
I fought off a 10 man assualt termie squad for 3 turns with 2 initiates...
I destroyed a whole 800pt Necron army with nothing but a Chaplain and 3 intiiates...
And I'm sure there is more I just can't think of it all at the moment...
I was playing a 500 point games chaos vs. necrons...my opponent included both the c'tan: night bringer and the deciever. He put them down as 100 points each! He ran into a havoc squad...i love lascannons.
And what is this "Chinese burn"?
I took out Abaddon, Fabius Bile and 6 chosen chaos terminators with a demolisher cannon that was not even firing at them...
just goes to show cheaters never win....;D
ah, last night, i played my IG vs. space wolves. so he sends 8 termies in a LRC straight at me, and at about 18" away, a lone guardsman with a lascannon penetrates and annihilates his land raider, killing 3 terminators, and pinning the rest. needless to say, next turn i move up 40 guardsmen and rapid fire their lasguns and the terminators all die. after that it was an easy victory.
There has been 3 rly fun things when i played 40kA Shruiken Pistol can't even harm a Carnifex.(I think. Even if it can, there's still no way.) If you're going to make things up, at least back it up with the rules, please.
1: I killed a T7 Carnifex with my Farseers shuriken pistol.
2: I stood with a Guardian unit of 14 with platform in bushes. Opponents tactical squad shoots with Bolters (AP5) and causes me to roll 8 saves. ALL OF THEM I ROLLED 6:es. Man he was pissed.
3: In a 750 point game the opponents tactical squad with a Chaplain kills my whole army. Survivors of his? The Chaplain and evrything else except the Tactical Squad.
actually *flips through rules book* a str. 4 weapon can wound T 7 on a six (pg. 23 in macragge rules book).
my bad, forgot about rapid fire. Still though, this one seems pretty ridiculous, that's a minimum of 20 powerfist attacks or 30 power weapons with rerolls to wound. There's no way they could've survived.Wow... Where to begin...

Getting a bit over excited there mate, lets stick to the truth...
How did he kill him?
I would put my money on death by strangulation, although beating the guy to death with the rock also has something poetic :P
I'd pull his gorge his eyes with my broken defiler then smash his head through the wall and say "does this look like you can see through it!!!!!!!"
I'd pull his gorge his eyes with my broken defiler then smash his head through the wall and say "does this look like you can see through it!!!!!!!"
... What? Can you rephrase that in english? "I'd pull his gorge his eyes" doesn't make sense in any way, shape, or form.
Thats intolerable!
The exitement of gourging someone the eyes out must not conflict with your typing skills!
How are you going to brag about it otherwise?

I didnt brag about gourging someones eyes out, so i may type however i please ;D
My DG vs Blood angels, turn 1 all three dreads go crazy, speed towards the enemy and rip apart the death company. needless to say i won, the BA player lost all motivation when all two HQ choices got whomped.
I once deepstiked a Monolith right into the middle of a dark eldar player...
After I had slaughtered him, my friend who had been watching says to me, "congratulations Phil, you beat him physically and emotionally".I do think too that deepsticking a Monolith into someone will end a game in quite a fast and messy way... :P
We still laugh about that to this day.
Why wouldn't it be? Only Rippers can't hold objectives if I remember correctly.
And that doesn't sound like especially bad luck to me. Rolling 4 on 3D6 when you need a 5 to see a unit (Grey Knight's Shroud) is bad luck.
~Andromidius
sounds like you didnt have your infantrymans uplifting primer... a prayer to the emperor and he will watch over you...
it works for my buddy every time.
i could be wrong, but i don't believe a zoanthrope is a scoring unit.
Another odd occurance against the same opponent is the Demolisher Poping Tyrant. In our ten or so games he twice destroyed a demolisher in the first turn with a venom cannon. 3 to hit, 6 to glance, 6 to destroy it. That is 1.8% chance for each shot or 5.4%. The first time was the worst because it blocked line of sight for the HeavyWeapons Squad behind it. And cut line of sight on half the board for the other heavyweapon squad. I no longer use tanks. Just lots of infantry. Unfortunately the board gets cramped.
On Sunday I killed a shed load of Necrons with nothing more than a few hellguns. This may have been the first time Ive ever killed anything with a hellgun...
And then my Super Cyboar Warboss ate his face ^_^
Happened to me last wednesday. A SM player had a tac squad with a chaplain in it. My Harlies charged them (5 man strong) and they were guided and the squad was DOOMED (psyc power). The normal marines died like flies but that damn chaplain wouldnt give up. I scored at first 7 rending hits on him wich he aved 5 against leaving him 1 wound. Then he got 4 normal hits wich his power armor took. Finally guided misses got additional rends and AGAIN he saves them. Finally my troupe master scored 3 P.sword wounds wich he saves!. THen he has 5 attacks all miss=). And FINALLY he died when failing the no retreat saves. OMG that was the most durable chaplain Ive ever seen.
I was playing Tau today with my Infiltrate/Deep Strike Marines. My Termies arrived, dropped in next to a squad of my Tactical Marines who were busy soaking all the fire from half his army (by the Emperor, if I could marry 4+ cover saves, I would :))Wow...that is a funny game, I've seen that happen.
They shot the at the front of his Railhead, got a single rending hit, which glanced of course, and I rolled a 6 on the damage table.
Two turns later, his Ionhead moved up to get LOS to some of my Scouts. This was in CoD, so the board was filled with terrain. He had no choice but to expose the Hammerhead to my Terminators. He killed a couple of Scouts and in my turn, I moved up and unloaded the Assault Cannons again. One redning hit which glanced, and I rolled a 5 on the damage table. He showed me his list and said "they have decoys, you have to re-roll that." I re-rolled, and got a 6 :)
Good times.

4.I fire with A termie squad, landspeeder (multi-melta) a dreadnaught (assault cannon), 3 tac squads (all with missle launchers) and a predator destructor (auto/bolters) and kill one guy... >:( Next turn, the other guy anihalates like half my army

Well, no gain, no loss. That's good... I think.
Happened to me recently: I played against SM. His commander with the jump pack and a pair of lightning claws charges my 7 man harlie squad, ALONE. So 2 harlies im base contact, think what the heck I'll cause at least 1 wound on him. No sixes and he saves against the normal attacks (curse artificier armor). now he strikes killing the 2 harlies in base contact. Harlies FAIL the Breaking test and now its time for sweeping advances. I roll a 4 and he rolls a 5, wich means he JUST KILLED 220 PTS in 1 turn. The harlies didn't even cause a scratch on his army, just 220 pts blown up by some stupid 165 pt commander.
What made it especailly funny was that even after that the Chaos and Ork army lost, which is all the more brilliant because we were ony 13 years old playing a twenty year old 40k veteran
Full striking scorpions unit charges my dread armed with missile launcher/lascannon. All haywire grenades miss (this was before the new Eldar codex), my dread with no CC weapon kills 2 of them, wins combat, beats them on initiative and sweeping advances them all. Eldar playing friend very upset
Man, I am never, ever getting rid of that PF-Vet. As long as it's legal, I'll use him in every CC-scout squad in all my lists.Amen to that!
What were you hoping was going to be the outcome of shooting a vehicle with sniper rifles? You can't do anything to a vehicle with a sniper rifle as it only has an AP roll of D6. Since nothing has armour 6 in the game.......
I am thinking that you should go re-read the section on sniper rifles. They get more then just 1d6. ~_^
I think the worst thing that happened to me was with my Space Wolves, I was facing Blood Angels, my Grey Hunters drop podded in the other guy's deployment zone. They landed right behind a Furioso Dreadnought that had been immobilized and had 2 weapons destroyed, pretty much no threat... or so I thought. It was the other guy's turn and he rolls Blood Rage or whatever on the dreadnought, it moved into close combat with my Hunters. About this time my head exploded as I didnt equip my guys with krak nades and had no powerfists or anything to fight the stupid dreadnought. Amazingly, with no arms, it was able to kick my wolves and managed to kill 2. I was tied in CC for 3 rounds until my Blood Claws got up and meltabombed it to death.
The strangest thing that ever happened to me
Never ever ever say, "Don't roll a one." You always will. Either on the to-hit or on the to-wound.

3.) if he was missing his weapons, this means that he gets ONE close combat attack (WITHOUT DCCW, which you destroyed)
He still only gets 1 attack as he was imobilised. Either way, the statement is true, that the kid cheated.
I almost lost my eye on a pointy banner top while checking line of site!
My IG and my friends Tau teamed up to fight a 2000 pt battle against a space marine player. He teleported termies right into the middle of our armies. On our turn we focus at least 1200 pts of firepower on them, rapid firing guard, firewarriors, plasma equipped mechs and about 5 frag templates. hundreds of hits were scored on them and he had to make well over 40 saves.
two failed their saves. Leaving 5 and a very angry chaplain left.
I then charged my roughriders with lances in. I scored 7 hits, needing 3's to wound.
I then rolled 6 ones and twos.
one more termi died, the rest massacred the rough riders to the man.
Needless to say, that massive waste of firepower contributed majorly to us losing the game.
Morale of the story? I ******* hate lucky space marines. Armour saves should only be made so many times....
On the subject of dice rolls.... I'm so beslubbering pissed! If I need 2's to wound I always, ALWAYS, score two 1's... Always, dosen't matter what it is. And I never hit.
'cept...
I've never scattered more then 3'' with a Ordenance.. and 90% of the time I hit
Lucky you that you play IG then. But isn't it frustrating to always hit with the Bassie and then never roll anything but 1s to wound? :P

I just figured out while driving that I would have won the first game I played at the tournament if I was smart enough to remeber that immobilzed skimmers are destroyed if they move more then 6" and his moved 24"
Why would I have won. Well dice would still play a role but essentially one Wave Serpent and the troops inside entangled with a group of my storm troopers standing by. (who knows how many would have bought it in the crash)
Not to mention the first thing I shot at it with was the one to immobilze it. So two other units firing at something else.
But the fire dragons knocked out a Leman Rus the turn they came out. So entangled fire dragons limited in number due to crash and storm troopers would have had a hard time taking out the front of a leman rus.
ARRAGH!!!
Maybe he had that upgrade that allows immobilized skimmers to land even though they have moved more than 6". I forgot the name now though :P

It is. And tough I pay for that upgrade on my three tanks since the new Eldar Codex is out, it only paid off a single time.Quote from: PurgatoryMaybe he had that upgrade that allows immobilized skimmers to land even though they have moved more than 6". Boltering down Land Speeders who foolishly charge into rapid fire range.
Got about 8 glances, 6 of which resulted in 6's :)
I laughed in his face as this now blocked most of his troops between some ruins and a forest.
A legend of a Scout Sergeant is building, lead by the newest member of the gaming group. He has a Sniper Rifle and a Power Fist. Against Necrons, I think he was the last surviving member of the army before wading into a squad of Warriors. Killing about ten of them over the course of several turns, the unit is run down causing the Necrons to Phase Out. Apparently, he's had similar results against Plague Marines.
Back in the day I once had a squad of 10 Gretchen kill 7 Ultramarine terminators in a single shooting phase.
There is such a rule?!!
but I really enjoyed the rule whereby if you roll 5 6s in your shooting from a single unit that unit misses with all its shots... the guard player shot his 50 man conscript squad and rolled 5 6's in his first 10 shots... needless to say they didn't get to shoot at the gaunts that turn. Luckily their assassin killed off the squad in combat.
I loved the image of these 50 guys pointing their guns... ready, aim, click, click, click Uh Oh.
Yes, its funny enough. 500 pts bown in the first turn would really piss me off. What is the baneblades armour stats?
14, 13, 12.:o :o :o
Two penetrating hits, one of them rolled a '1' (Weapon Shaken I believe), the second rolled '6' for a Chain Reaction (Loss of 1 Structure point and which give a re-roll on the Damage Table), re-roll gave another '6' for another Structure point then re-roll for another '6'. :o
The only thing that saddened me is there was no Apocalyptic Explosion, only a 'Wrecked' result. :D

Dang, that's extreme luck. My Baneblade have surived a 10-robot strong unit of Necrons rapid-firing at it... on the rear armour.

My first real game as a DE player (ie against someone who isn't my brother or a mate of mine).
I introduce myself to the other player, who looked at my army, and after I said "I'm new to Dark Eldar" he said "Well those Chaos Eldar are easy beats anyway"
(note to all other players: Never call DE Chaos Eldar in front of a DE player).
I showed this bloke my army. He laughed at my fugly Wyches. At this point, I mentally vowed to use said "girly men" to cut his Commander into bits.
I also vowed to enjoy myself, I love DE, such interesting flavour to their army.
I deployed my Warriors, and used the Mandrake special rules ("is that legal?" he asked) and Deployed my tooled out DE Lord ("is that legal? I'm sure you're cheating").
And charged straight at him with the Warriors as the Wyches and the Bikes flank him.
MAssacre. His bolters cut the warriors to pieces. Not a single casuality to his forces after two turns.
Which is when the Mandrakes attacked as a diversion to the Wyches and the Jetbikes.
SMurfs might be many things, but against DE in CC they can be kittens, rather then tigers.
A true massacre.
Which is when my Lord raced in. And destroyed his Dreadnaught.
In hand to hand. Without losing a wound.
His army in disarray. He played his hand.
He whinged to the store owner.
Who promptly declared that my army was illegal.
Why? Because my Lord was a Wood Elf with a shuriken pistol rather then a "real" DE Lord.
I looked at him.
I smiled and said "ahh well. At least I killed his Commander. A victory to the girly men I think"
And I left.
How did they charge you first turn that is impossible they start 24 inches away move 6 and charge 6 they can't attack you first turn (I don't believe they get inflitrate in which case it is possible.)
Yes the only cases are Dark Eldar and things if they had infiltrate and fleet of foot. The chaos player lied he cant do either of those things.
what so he couldnt of done any of those things ? looks like that dudes models will have a meeting with my sledgehammer stupid f*&^%$
he lyed to me a wronged me so he has got to have somthing coming his way
and the thing has 3 wounds.
Wow! Those are huge odds! I'd do the maths, but I really don't want to.
small battle necron vrs tau 1500 game
9 rounds go by before the first kill is made :( uh the dice gods cursed us.
I've had a dark Eldar Archon take out my 28 man 500 point army all by himself. I took out the rest of his army except for that one blokeIsn't that what Archon's do? I know mine does.
Its..... so beatiful :'(
I had a crucified guardsman terrain piece on the table that intimidated the guard players. In response they said that the crucified guardsman which they called "Imperial Jesus" should count as a regular guardsman so that they could try and destroy him. I agreed and about 20 high strength shots were fired at him (They ran out of targets that turn). about 15 hits were scored including the Baneblades big guns. The wounding was rolled. All 1s.
That Imperial Jesus peice sounds awesome! Can you get some pics up of it?
I farted on a carnifex while its owner wasn't looking.
A friend of mine had his first game with orks yesterday.
Let me say right away that orks are not a good army for people with bad dice karma.
Turn 1, everything was going well until the shooting phase.
First action:
A string 4 1's resulted in his Wierdboy Warphead suffering both a Perils of the Warp attack and an 'Eadbang at the same time, and exploding in a squishing noise and a wave of incendiary green fire that killed four of his 'ard boyz as well.
Second Action:
The big mek lined up his shokk attack gun on a (rather inadvisably deployed) company command squad. Target out in the open. Direct hit. Fantastic. Strange whirring and clanking noises comming from innards of shokk attack gun. Not so fantastic. Big mek and nearby killa kan that was a fraction too close vanish into the warp (guess what - another double one...)
Third action:
Getting a bit frustrated now, he opened up with his heavy support (Badrukk's Freebootaz) on the same unit. Despite their blasta rounds, they only manage AP4, and kill a grand total of one veteran. Medic hands the wounded marine a sticky plaster. One of the flash gitz gun's explodes badly enough to kill him and wound the guy standing next to him, despite the painboy's best efforts. Badrukk misses completely but at least Da Rippa doesn't actually manage to kill him when it overheats spectacularly.
Fourth Action:
The burna boyz mek fires his kustom mega-blasta. It has the Gets Hot rule. Guess what he rolled.
By the time he'd finished his first shooting phase, he'd obliterated 270 points of his own troops and killed absolutely nothing.
The dark angels player's response: "Does my army actually need to be here?"
I for one am looking forward to the battle report you will surely post of this encounter.Cool! I have a fan!
whats the oddest, stupidest, or weirdest way or thing you or you opponent has ever done or said in the game?
one of my friends nearly played against some guy, until he learned that his HQ was a SM master with 500 pts of gear.
for me, it was the accidentally-on-purpose void of that whole "morale check/leadership test" thing in a game against some friends. (they dont really pay attention to the rules real well until i get there)
A consistent DP is a good DPDamn it all to hell, i had to go and make my patron god the one of epic failure.
But Grimaldeus was still alive at the end of the game, having ONE MORE ROUND OF THE SAME THING....jees... is this character for real??Think that's bad? Try the Green Knight in WHFB. He's an unkillable, terror causing lord who is ethereal, can teleport, has lots of S6 attacks, ward save and the max damage you can do to him is putting him out of the game for a turn or two. ALL for 275pts :o :-* :-*.
Another funny story. I was playing a 2000 point game, Gue'Vesa Auxiliary IG army+Tau Mech vs Experimental Harlequins and Dark Eldar. The Harlequins had two units, and together, they killed 1000 points of IG in two turns of combat. The first charge took 3 units, and with dozens of failed Leadership checks, the army just shat its pants before being able to do anything. They managed to kill roughly 3 enemies for 50 casualties. The Tau ended up winning though because they isolated the Dark Eldar, wiped them out, and then just outmaneuvered the Harlequins.
an autocannon at bs3 blowing up a Baneblade in on the first turnHow the hell can that happen!!!
Aint any assault Cannons at BS 3, Whitehat.
it is possible, get a 4 to hit, get a 6 to glance, roll a 6 for damage meaning he rerolls on the pen table, rolls a 4+ and nocks another stucture pt off re rolls on glance table, rolls a 6 re rolls of cat table rolls 2+ tank is dead
ive almost pulled a shot off like that on a titan, nocked 2 struture ptys off and blew off one of the guns

However if you use the apoc damage tables it is impossible to take off a structure point with a glancing hit (unless all weapons are gone and the vehicle is immobilised).

really? i never noticed that, then how on earth did he kill it with one shot
My space marine playing friend encouraged me to buy a wraithlord, which was funny in and of itself. But after i assembled and painted it, we had a battle. a squad of plain assault troops charged it and he rolled for attach, scoring with a ton of hits, then immediately scooped up the dice and asked what he needed to wound it. New, I checked the charts. Hmm, strength 4 versus toughness 8. Deciding to be witty, I said he needed sevens. To my suprise he starts to shake the dice, getting ready to roll, before he realized what I had said. His expression was so funny.I honestly laughed out loud after reading this. I did that same exact thing to my friend who was playing my IG(before he had an army) and attacking my Talos.
Well I had my first REAL game today (as in one that wasn't with a GW employee who was letting me win :P) since I started playing a few weeks ago and I had a blast!Where did this nightbringer come from?? Where was Abaddon this whole battle? How could you fit 7 Terminators, a Jump Pack Chaplain, and 10 Tactical Marines into 500 points? How were there so many chaos lords and enough guns to bring down a Nightbringer in a 500 point game?? Judging by the way you typed it, it seemed like one player had enough firepower packed into 500 points to take down a Nightbringer!
It was a 3v3 game of 500 points. I didn't have enough of an army to fill up that 500 points so the guys at GW were kind enough to let me borrow a squad of 7 Space Marine Terminators, which made my army look like:
A chaplain with jump pack
A squad of 7 termies
A squad of 10 tactical marines
The chaplain was linked to the terminator squad.
It was myself, a guy with Eldar and a guy with Necrons up against 3 CSM armies. We were all set up so we were teamed up on opposite sides of the table next to our teammates. The first 2 turns for me just involved advancing towards my enemy (the sides of the tables were separated by terrain where as the center of the table had a clear road, making the central position a very unenviable position to be in.) :P
Unfortunately our Eldar ally decided in the 2nd turn he no longer could participate in the battle and so the favor shifted towards our enemies as it became a 2vs3 battle.
It wasn't until the 3rd turn I realized that my teammates hadn't been rushing forward as I continued to advance, and that I was making a big mistake. I unintentionally moved myself into charge range of the CSM commander opposite to me!
By some miraculous twist of fate, in the very next turn I managed to wipe out his entire army, which consisted of something like 20 marines and 1 demon in the next turn, with only 4 losses from my terminator squad!
In this turn, my Necron teammate decided to unleash his most prized mini: A C'Tan Nightbringer! Things might finally be going our way I thought, as the players began to marvel at the power of death incarnate.
To our horror though, the CSM player who was captaining their side unleashed a hail of fire at the Nightbringer, bringing it down in the same turn it was brought in! Not only this, but the hail of fire also brought down the majority of my allies warriors, causing him to phase out.
I began to get worried... My first game, with barely an idea of how the rules work, and I'm all alone against 2 brutal and unmerciful enemies!
But alas I pressed on. My chaplain with his 3 terminators fell back behind some terrain, moving out of range of the central CSM armies fire, making them have to move towards the terrain before they could attack me. I then opened fire on them with all my units, including my tactical squad who at this point had barely been involved in the battle, only to support the more assault orientated chaplain and terminators.
Despite this, I only managed to bring down a few of his marines. The 2nd remaining player on their team at this point was too far away to be of any concern for the moment, except for his HQ choice (which was a massive chaos worm, which was meant to have a chaos lord mounted on top which wasn't glued on yet *shrug*), which was charging on its own straight towards me.
I moved into the terrain and waited for the worm to get close before opening fire on it, wounding it, and then charging it in the same turn to finish it off with my chaplain!
Feeling ballsy after defeating his HQ, I used my massacre move of 6" to stand an inch away from the central players army, allowing me to shoot at him with my terminators and chaplain, as well as my tactical squad, killing a few marines before charging him with my chaplain, who went into a berserker rage bringing down the majority of what was left of his army, leaving him with his HQ choice, a standard bearer, some kind of juggernaught riding marine and a single troop marine. In the following move, my enemy unleashed a flurry of combat attacks that utterly destroyed my Chaplain and all 3 of the remaining terminators, which brought a small tear to my eye.
He was then forced to advance through the terrain, luckily for me though, the dice gods weren't on his side, causing him to advance very slowly through the terrain, allowing me to slowly take shots at him, whittling him down as much as I could. Meanwhile the 2nd CSM commander was still coming towards me, but was now in range with his bolters to begin taking shots at me, slowly taking down marines one by one from my tactical squad, which was becoming a little unnerving. By the time the central player got to me, I had 7 tactical marines left, the 2nd CSM player had 4 chaos terminators left and the central player had only his HQ choice left, which turned out to be none other than Abaddon the Despoiler!
Despite the many shots I took at him during his advance through the rugged terrain, and the many CC attacks I got as he advanced upon my squad, he was too powerful a foe, viciously destroying the remaining brave space marines, who took away 2 wounds before being killed.
So, although I lost, I had a great deal of fun, and was complemented for using my army more effectively as a beginner than most players who have played for a long time, which gave me a massive ego boost. :P
And, sorry for the lengthy post but I didn't think this quite warranted a post in the batreps forum, particularly as though I couldn't remember any of the specific details off hand. This is just the general gist of how the battle played out. Next time I'll try to remember the game to explain it a bit more thoroughly. :P
Apparently I was only slightly over the point limit... I'm not sure as I wasn't the one doing the counting, but the other players were willing to accept it as it was only my first game and I didn't have a grasp on how the game quite worked yet.Well I had my first REAL game today (as in one that wasn't with a GW employee who was letting me win :P) since I started playing a few weeks ago and I had a blast!Where did this nightbringer come from?? Haha silly people :P
Me on the other hand, in like my first game I thought my Chaplain was invincible.
He was :P.
In combat for the last 3 turns (The same combat as well, my opponent just chucked everything at him by the end), and he was still alive at the end. Thank the Emperor for invulnerable saves :P
Now, I don't believe in cheese, but you two use what are considered to be cheesy lists.
Twin Lash Princes on one hand, Eldrad/Avatar + 3 Skimmer combo on the other. Where's the guy with Imperial Guard Tank Company and the Necron player with the C'tan + 3 Monoliths?

Since he wanted to game a hard army as preparation to his next tourny, i used the avatar/eldrad + 3 skimmers combo for the first time.
I laughed hard at that. I could just picture the vindicare firing just as the guardsman trips over a stone, narrowly missing the guardsman's head. The guardsman's lasgun hit the ground and fires off a round straight at the assassin, copping him in the head. The guard just picks his lasgun up unbeknownst of his kill, shrugs, says "that was close," and walks off.
Firing a rocket launcher at a sqaud 4" in front of me then missing and the missle flys back killing 4 of my sqaud
Taking out 2 (count 'em) Falcons with a Bassie firing indirect over an intervening city. :D
Playing against the Emperor's Champion in a SMurf army using the old 'dex rules (just for the EC, all others were normal. I gave permission) with my Guard army in it's first game. EC charges one of my infantry squads, challenges the Sergeant to a duel. He decides to use the sword as a P-Fist for some reason.
2 attacks with his chainsword. I roll two 5s, then a 5 and a 6 to wound. EC rolls snake eyes. Yes, one of the most powerful single combatants in 40 got cut down in a single assault phase by a squad sergeant. I like to imagine that he tripped over one of my Guardsmen on the way in and lost his helmet in the fall .
:D
Using my scratch built squiggoth and having it die in the first turn every game. Damn that 4+ save!
The worst turn over I have ever had is when I was mopping the floor with my opponent, he failed a stupid amount of armour saves, hit the table and the TABLE turned over!!
luckily it was only 1000 points so there wasn't that much damage!
a small dog, and a puppy (even smaller) was able to get to your models? your fault for keeping them on the floor
had a 60lbs 6 year old autistic girl with brain damage from birth decide to use my large cloth GW carrying case (full of bretonnians) as a trampoline for about 15 minutes before i noticed her
Well, the fact that I couldn't use my two squads of 5 Venom Cannon Warriors basically sealed the deal that I wasn't getting back into nids anymore anyway. So I was never inclined ot fix the models.

You wanted to use five squads of warriors? All the HQ and all the Elite choices???
My opponent was like >:( :'( and i was like :o :P ;DYou do know not to make fun of an opponent, an angry and disappointed, opponent in a tourney environment, right? One never knows, they could wait you out with a crowbar...

Anyway, I wish I could get that kind of awesome with my Spiders only once. :D

For me, it has to be the time my infantry company was horribly mauled by an all biker marine army. At the beginning of the 6th turn, my only surviving unit was my company command squad. Shooting casualties left the squad with only the commissar and the banner bearing veteran.dude, that is awesome !
Morale check rolled....11. Dang.
Reroll morale check for the banner.....12. Uh oh.
BANG! The commissar promptly executes the only other friendly model on the table and then makes a suicidal charge into the rapidly approaching biker hoardes. He obviously did not survive...but it was the perfect way for him to go!
Genetically engineered my foot...
During last nights midnight release party, one of our players made a roll, and through som anomaly of physics, it landed on a corner and balanced there.

When one of us stops being lazy, we'll post a pic of it on here. It was absolutely amazing.I have had it land on a corner, or on a single "edge" between two corners about 5 times too!!

I fail to see how Guard heroics and random 40k stuff belong in the same thread, unless they play on folding in the thread for Smurf and Chaos Smurf heroics in as well. ::)
oh here is another one my bolter weilding JO has been used in 7 games has shot once almost every turn and has NEVER EVER EVER missed NOT once thats upwards of 35 consecutive 4+ dice roll's!
he is now known as Lieutenant Samuel Kreiger AKA Sharp-eyed sammy ironically with no sharpshooters rule EITHER : O
I've probably just jinxed my streak but with 35+ consecutive you feel very lucky indeed!
I lost 3 warlocks.I can hear the teeth grinding from here, really, I can! :D
Killed a squad of eldar, can't remember which, but then my assult squad got killed by 6 striking scorpions :(
i only saw this happen..
the Blood angel special charcter that has fear the darkness comes on the board just close enough to a imp guard gunline army. uses fear the darkness imp player fails morale check comisar shoot next officer fails again the entire army runs off board other then the tanks
A few rags and some cussing later my desk now has more than it's share of character marks where the varnish was burned away, not to mention the melted cup does look rather sweet.. :D
I had a chaos land raider immobilised and with only 1 lascannon sponson. I then parked my falcon and two wave serpents on all three access hatches to keep the plague marine and chaos lord from disembarking.
He should have had his 2+ save, rokkits are only ap 3.
Wounding my friends termies with 12 Rokkits, only to have him make every single 5+ invulnerable save.
A bit of all four categories showed up in one go last night.
A mob of my Boyz had just flubbed a difficult terrain test trying to assault a Marine Tactical Squad sitting on an objective, leaving them picking their noses a few inches in front of a lot of beakie firepower. The Marine players turn rolls around, and the tac squad happily unload into my poor Boyz, killing all but the Nob, who promptly runs screaming away.
In my next turn, I desperately try to blow the Marines off the objective with my boomgun-toting Looted Wagon, in it's first outing. Unfortunately, I roll an 11" scatter. Subtracting the ballistic skill of the Wagon, the large blast template lands perfectly over the fleeing Nob and vaporises him.
I fondly imagine the gunner in the Looted Wagon witnessing the Nob's terribly un-Orky flight, and deciding 'Zog da beakies, I'll blast da cowardly git!'.
I once took down a monolith on the first turn with a rocket from a space marine scout. The guy had only 3-4 inches before he was out of range but he just rolled with it and took that big boy down.
Mine just happened recently...Another great moment was the next three player game when Nurgling's plagebearers got misplaced and put directly behind the eldar army, then my storm troopers got misplaced and also placed behind the eldar army. Needless to say the eldar player was not happy by the time we got to his turn.
In a three-player 1000 point game (5th ed.), I deep striked a unit of 7 plaguebearers and a unit of 5 nurglings right beside my friend's entire eldar army. They went on to massacre at least half of the eldar, including 2 squads of ten dire avengers and an amped-up farseer with his 3-man warlock retinue. By the time my Daemon Prince came in to "aid" the Bearers and nurglings, there was no-one left to kill. Suffice to say, he was as dissappointed as the eldar's remaining wraithlord, who ultimately failed 2 out of his remaining 3 wraithsight checks.
When my Chaos Raptor (named THE PROFESSOR! for his custom monacle) was the last man standing from his squad, he carried on to kill a Hive Tyrant, a tooled up Carnifex and a Zoanthrope.
He now has his own datasheet, and he is Strength Chuck Norris, with Toughness Silvester Stallone
Was your friend rolling three dice, or were their more?
If it was only three dice, then there's like a 1/216 chance of rolling three sixes. Did your friend, for some reason roll the dice about 1944 times?

One battle against chaos (previous codex), a daemon prince is locked in with my conscript unit, with a weapon that gives a random number of attacks (scythe of nurgle?).
I beg your pardon but what was that Kabal Archon? I do not remember spying the word "mi" whilst reading the dictionary, one fine tuseday afternoon. Also where was that full stop after the word "victory"?

I think there should be a capital letter in "great" there, afterall it is after a full stop. As for "tuesday" it was nothing other than simple typing error, a clash of keys if you wish, that was all.

Lol, I would tend to agree there. My own saves usually are, at best, average - I never go out without Fortune and even then my Wraithguard tend to die to Lasgun fire.

True enough. I know, that my fortuned bike council should only fail one out of nine 3+ saves, but somehow the number is closer to 5. I was never good at making 3+ saves but often make more 5+ saves than any man has a right to make :P

Wait, don't we only have re-rollable 4+ saves?
Every turn when I would fail combat, he would shoot a execute a conscript 18"+ away with his laspistol!
Watched a small 600 points skirmish between 2 friends of mine. Marines vs. orks. Before the game I told the marine player he had spent way too much on his commander (terminator master, storm shield, mc thunderhammer, adamantine mantle) for this points level (this will be relevant later). As cool as that is, there must have been a whole load of luck involved there :D
Due to terrible shooting, the orks only take like 5 or 6 casualties before declaring waagh! and getting the whole marine army in combat. All the marines die except the commander, who lived through the 40 or so attacks from the 10 boyz he was fighting (taking one wound), killed 3 or 4, routed and sweeping advanced them. So the orks proceed to charge the commander with everything. Over 2 turns the commander made every save except one (from the warboss's power claw, but adamantine mantle prevented autokill). Both turns he won the combat , routed and sweeping advanced the enemies (including warboss and 5 nobs).
Last turn 10 boyz and a nob with a power klaw charge the commander who has 1 wound left. Boyz score loads of wounds, but every save is passed. Nob scores 3 wounds, all saved, while commander kills 2. Orks fail morale, sweeping advanced... wipeout victory for the space marines.
In all the terminator commander killed every model in the orks army except maybe 10.
Was fun to see 1 guy attack a whole army and win.
Guess what came up.
Not a gaming, but a painting story . . .
Picture the scene: Father of 4 young kids, also an enthusiastic gamer, takes advantage of a rare Saturday to himself. Sits down to paint a squad of Chaos havocs . . . several hours, 2 hvy bolters, 2 autocannons and two "other" CSMs later, reaches for the spray can of varnish to finish them off. Only AFTER spraying half of the figures that had had so much hard work lavished on them WHITE did I realise I'd reached for the WRONG can!!!
:-[
... I placed them on the floor to dry...
That's what you get for having kids.

In one of my Ard Boyz games today, my Sisters opponent failed Divine Guidance three times in a row, 11 (needing 10), 11 (needing 10), 10 (needing 9).
Well, last week I lost a mostly full squad of Wraithguard on the charge by a tooled up DA Veteran squad with Chaplain: almost all of the Powersword hits got a 6 to wound, wiping out the unit, including the Spiritseer who failed his Fortuned ++ save. No Veteran died.
NEVER saw so many bloody 6s in a row. :D

Oh, but I won - wiped him out on 7th turn. I lost the Wraithguard, the Harlies and the Avenger's Serpent, but never again I will underestimate a Land Raider borne Assault. And yes, I do have a life, I copied that from the DE forum that I posted as a BatRep.No you don't, stop living in that illusion. An impressive feat nonetheless, screw the SM, screw I say! :D
Because thats the only logical explanation to what happened last sunday. The sweeping advance wouldn't have killed off your terminators remember ;)
There were two ( yes, TWO! ) imperial guardsman protecting a objective building, trapped inside as the fight raged on.
I had a unit of 6 Thunderhammer / Storm Shield terminators nearby. The guard building was the only thing chargeable and the guard control of that place was what was making the game a tie. So i charge.
What happened was, i managed to loose 2 terminators to IG CC attacks, and then managed to kill one guard with 12 storm hammer attacks. Then i proceed to fail the morale test and get caught up a sweeping advance.
Funny thing? next round (the last one of the battle), the guardsman got killed by a bad scatter from a russ shell, and that gave me the game.
I had an opponent (a good friend) that rolled 30 to hit rolls with his necron warrior unit.
22 of them came up as 1s.
the remaining 8, were 2s.
OK, another non-tabletop but nonetheless 40K related mishap for you: Walking through the foyer of my office coming back in from lunchhour...figure case in one hand (having been to GW at lunchtime to chew the fat with Blueshirt mate who works there). Client has arrived early and is chatting to manager..."Simon, meet David" says manager, and when changing hands figure case is in to shake hands with client, case opens and toy soldiers fall out onto floor...

(luckily, unpainted plastics only...)
a las this monday i fought against the new marines, my friend apporched my lines with six vanguards with jumppacks and a chaplain with jumppack, however before charging (and multiple charging my lines like he likes to do) they fired ther bolt pistols at the squad they intended to charge, caouseing 4 casualties the soldiers took a leadership test at their own ld, they ran a way out of reach for the vanguards, and there they stood dumbfolded in my lines on my turn with 2 demolisher one leman russ, 99% of my troops and a smiling lunatic waving a bag of 20 kilo high explosives, needless to say they were dead before either of the tanks had fired.
...and then make the chapter master the emperor!!!!
Was watching a game the other day, marines vs. orks. 20 shoota boyz opened fire on 5 terminators. Killed 3, and made them fall back off the board. Hehehe.
My friend John rolled 5 dice for Skulltaker's attacks at Gauntlet and got 1,2,3,4,5 :D
Dunno the odds of that, but it was damn cool ;D
Not 40K but still two funney events.
1. Archeon (a chaos character, very good) charged a unit of 20 dwarf warriors, causes no wounds and neither do the dwarves. Archeon runs :P

If it was its not really that impressive since his chances of taking a wound from that would be around 50% if he was fortuned. (Avg. of .51 wounds assuming necron lord has staff of light).

1: Remember my post in the sportsmanship section? That was this game.
2: I know that now! Besides, I didn't say they were in combat!... To be fair I did imply that didn't I! Sorry about that They were mostly rapid-firing plasma guns at him. Though my command squads with power fist weilding officers and Commissars thought they were hard enough.... but we all learn something new every day. In the end the store manager got so fed up with the combat that he 'reminded' everyone about this special apocalypse only rule that the night bringer gets to place the 10' template on himself and give everyone underneath a strenght 8 AP3 hit!
The hilarious part was watching the very young player, with a very nicely painted necron horde, grow more and more bemused (not angry!) at the refusal of the Guard to roll over and die.
Here's something entertaining:
In a 2v2 game, a single genestealer, 10 guardsmen, and 1 necron warrior were locked in combat. For 3 turns. NOTHING happened. The stealer kept rolling 1's and 2's to hit, the guardsmen caused a couple wounds, which were repeatedly saved, and the necron couldnt score any wounds. I haven't got a clue to how that worked out.
'Your Lascannon can't see my Sorcerer lord.'
'Er... its in a building, on top of a hill and you are in open ground.'
'Yeah but there is a wall on his base, look'
3rd edition game, one of the funniest matches I've ever played.Hahahahahaha. Tell that guy to learn some tactics or come to 40kO.
My 750 pt standard mission Tyranid force included no guns. Went into a store and played a random person. He played Space Marines, and had 5 units of Tactical Marines and a Captain.
We rolled for a standard mission, and we rolled a 6, so it went to a battle.
We rolled for the attacker/defender, and I was the defender.
We rolled for the mission, and it came out as Meat Grinder.
So, here I am facing an unlimited amount of space marines, with no guns. How fair.
I proceeded to get Rippers into combat with one tactical squad, and I danced around terrain and the combat with my Warriors and Hormagaunts, never getting stuck in combat, and keeping out of LOS of weapons. When the rippers died, I shoved another unit into combat and kept going. We rolled for continuing turns, and it kept going, and going, and going, until the mission was forced to end from the maximum amount of turns (I think it was 9 turns).
By the end, I had an undamaged squad of Warriors, an undamaged squad of Hormagaunts, and a unit of Hormagaunts still in combat, but over half strength still.
Boy, my opponant was fuming. Obscenities followed shortly afterwards. He had the maximum amount of time to beat me, with a superior force, and he royally screwed it up.
Next time I walked into the store, I found out he complained to the manager about my win, saying I was cheating. I never saw him again since that battle, maybe cause the manager decided to tell him off, or maybe because the manager refused to ban me from the store (meanwhile I've had a few games with him, so he knows I dont cheat).
I remember a punk kid, about 12, at GW northampton... Chaos. Army and the battle (pardon the pun) He said he only played Apocalypse... Okaaaaaaay.
I was there to do Iron Halo stuff and I was having a great time. He was the only other customer in the store and kept bugging me for a game. In the end I relented. He demanded to see my list. I showed it to him. I asked to see his. He didn't have one.
'I'll just put my whole collection on the table. I think its about 1500 points' Ok....
'These are my possessed. They can fly"
'Ok... may I see the Codex please... Um, no they can't.'
'Oh well, I've moved them now.'
'Well take the dangerous terrain test now please.'
'The what?'
'The dangerous terrain test. You said they fly and they have landed in difficult terrain and so need to take a difficult terrain test.'
'But you just said they can't fly.'
(Suppresses urge to kill)
Later on...
'Your Lascannon can't see my Sorcerer lord.'
'Er... its in a building, on top of a hill and you are in open ground.'
'Yeah but there is a wall on his base, look'
(So I assualted the Lord with a Guard Special weapons team instead and held him up so a plucky Lieutenant and Commissar could kill him!)
'Basically my psychic power instantly kills your Colonel and Commissar'
'Er... pass me your codex would you... Um, thats not how it works'
Fortunately I wiped the floor with his army! He was another example of someone who buys most of the store each day...
all three end up in dangerous terrain/enemy units and roll 3s and 4s on the misshap table (they return to reserves for those who dont know).
The botttomline is that i dont get anything to arrive on the table meaning that i dont get to roll for reserves in the following turns. This means that the game is over in the first player turn of the game and that my opponent wipes my army before he even gets to move his models :P
if you dont have any models on the table but you still have models in reserve, all of those reserves are counted as casualties (rules for deepstrike in the 40K rulebook), meaning that you have been wiped.Sorry but unless I am badly mistaken I believe that you have it wrong. IF units aren't on the table by the Turn the game ends, THEN these units are considered as destroyed. - BRB P.95 in the Misshap Table.

lol OK this is really funny OK after making a few adjustments to rules the red shirts at my local gw had a 40k vs Fantasy battle, it was relatively small every one got to take up to 1000 points of models in my necron army i took 3 monoliths and warriors and an non-upgraded lord. its beslubbering hilarious to see high elf's trying to blow up a monolith. by the end of the game the only thing that a lost was one monolith was immobilized. to say the least 40k wiped the floor with fantasy (they cant touch a tank)HAHA that would be hilarious to watch. I(along with prbly everyone else) do not think an arrow or two, or even 6000, would do very much against a monolith. He should be proud he immoblised one ;)
Yestoday, at my LGW we were having a tournament and In my first game I thought I would be fluffy, we rolled DoW deploymen and Seize Ground mission, so I put my Jetbikes on the table, and nothing else. (Bad move!) so as to be fluffy and call them scout bikers.Hey that sounds like my Kroot game. ;D
Anyway, I'm facing Marines, who quite rudely decide to blow my bikers out of the sky, meaning that on the FIRST turn, everything on the table, on my side, was killed, meaning I lost!

well they didn't do it with an arrow it was a dwarf cannon. i talked to other people who where there apparently there was a unit of 20+ goblins that managed to massacre 10 terminators because of combat resolution ( 1 banner 6 ranks out number)HA wow again thats hilarious, so many points spent on a nice termie squad to be stepped on by goblins, man i want to play a 40k vs. fantasy now ;)

that iss exactly what i wrote earlier (all models on the table are wiped in the first turn so the rest cant come in as per the reserves rules etc etc) but then everybody went ballistic about how that wasnt how the rules worked!
The Rule for that is this:
At the end of the mission, if no enemy units are left on the table, you win. (paraphrase pg 94.)
Thus, it is not a TURN, but the end of the game entirely.
A unit of termies (10 termies, 2 cyclones, librarian with TGOI and null zone, storm shield, along with lysander)
Needless to say, the opponent had no way to kill this monostroosity, and resigned on the 4th turn.
Not sure about the second question, but those storm bolters with bolter drill are...nasty. Despite cover saves, they cut through a massive portion of the DE army.A unit of termies (10 termies, 2 cyclones, librarian with TGOI and null zone, storm shield, along with lysander)
Only this on the tabletop would scare any opponent... You wouldn't have to say more...Needless to say, the opponent had no way to kill this monostroosity, and resigned on the 4th turn.
What else he could do?
Okay, christmas eve, i was playing in my local GW. I was using my eldar, the opponent was using space marines.Your grammar is so incredibly bad I completely missed what you said.
First of all, he pulled out 6 thunderfire cannons. I pointed out he could use all of them. He happily obliged and put them away.
The thunderfire cannon he kept on wiped out all my troops and most of my scorpions.
I hate those things.
The Thunderfire Cannon. He kept on. Wiped out all my troops and most of my scorpions.
Anyways, what's the odds of that, 1/200?
QuoteThe Thunderfire Cannon. He kept on. Wiped out all my troops and most of my scorpions.
One, stop being a grammar Nazi. Two, if you are going to be a Nazi, do it right. You split a sentance that made a decent amount of sense into 3 fragments. "The Thunderfire Cannon" can't be a sentance because it has no verbage. "He kept on" is using a Preposition without using a Prepositional phrase, meaning it makes even less sense. You need to answer the question "On what?" since that sentance is saying that he himself was kept somewhere. "Wiped out all of my troops and most of my scorpions" is missing a subject, and needs to answer the question "What wiped out ..."
Bad boy.
In a semi-apoc game I played, I faced an armoured company (12 leman russes) and CSM. I had 2 hammerheads & a broadside on my part of the board, against a land raider, and 5 of the lemans. They blew up one of my hammerheads first turn. They then spent another 5 turns trying to kill the other one. I failed a grand total of 2 cover saves, against....what, 35 some odd anti-tank rounds & lascannon shots? It was crazy.
You mean your Chaplain single-handedly took on an entire horde of Necrons? Well done.
Also in second edition I had a single gretchin killing a hive tyrant.
QuoteAlso in second edition I had a single gretchin killing a hive tyrant.
This made me giggle. How did that happen? Did the Tyrant choke on him or something.
It would have been possible, if the Tyrant roll many 1s with his attacks while the Gretchin rolled, say, a 5 on his single attack, as in 2nd ed each 1 rolled gave a + 1 bonus to the opponents.QuoteAlso in second edition I had a single gretchin killing a hive tyrant.

Yeah, must have been :D
I think it was actually by shooting and obviously the tyrant was already down to one wound. I don't know if it was even possible for a gretchin to win over a hive tyrant in close combat in 2nd edition.
In over a year of playing Necrons, my Heavy Destroyers have NEVER damaged a vehicle in any wayLOL! wow that must hurt their ego...oh look at me im so big and tough and look at my big gun....that never does anything... :P have they at least butchered infantry or something??
And i usually have 3 them
both hit, both wounded, only one passed invulnerable save and shrike was outta there, insta-killed by a rocket i almost forgot to shoot
Had those direwolves a bigger unit size than you? Otherwise you would have just been reduced to hit on sixes.
Turn 3/4 shrike and a biggish unit of vanguard were rampaging around my lines when by burnas showed up (i hate dawn of war deployment), and made a beeline directly for shrike
A unit of Deathwatch (Sternguard Veterans, technically) land in a drop pod next to captain and terminator bodyguard on turn one.
They then procede to use their ten (10!) combi-flamers on the bunched-up unit.
Fifty-three hits and thirty-one wounds later, a rather singed chapter master is wondering what the hell happened to his mates....
My Fateweaver's Boon of Mutation taking out another Fateweaver
You seriously have to give that sergeant a bunch of master crafted EQ and some serious niftyness on the model, he deserves it! O_o
Here's a fun one. The Avatar of Khane is walking into my lines, concentrated Exorcist fire drops him down to one wound. I charge the Living Saint and a Eversor Assassin into Khane. Khaine promptly turns, and then Instant Deaths the Eversor. The Eversor detonates his bomb vest and kills Khaine!
nice. i thought the eversor just melts down not bomb vest?

Same thing, One lone sternguard member charges a full unit of Tau firewarriors, kills 1, runs them down (I even remember my opponent saying "what's 1 guy going to do?").
happened about 2 week ago. playing against a 500pt daemonhunter army with my conflict army (ork) he had 7 GK terms and a 5 man stormtroops. playin captue and control. 3 big shootas later and his stormtroopers run off the table (his only troop choice). his gkt proceed to kill my grots only to be charged by 30 orks. needless to say grand master only 1 to sevive. 3 cc turns l8er he still alive with 1 wound, as my powerclaws seem to have not been turned on. he then uses holocaust.....11 orks dead........hes wounded and makes the throw "na al not role a 1" ...can we guess what the roll was...???
it seems that these things happen to me fairly often... (he saves the meltagun but not the laspistol, yay!)Ahh but you see this is a basic law of warhammer: if there are two ways for a model to die it will always succumb to the weaker option.

Oh yes this is why lasguns are more effective than lascannons when dealing with 3+ save models.

Only when Lash of Submission is concerned - that thing should allow for coversaves....
Then the one squad charges again, kills off the remaining assault marine. The assault lasts for 2 turns as the Chaplain can't hit a thing, then he loses a wound, and is run down in a sweeping advance

My friend was complaining about my Seers always passing psychic tests at the start of a game between me and another friend who was SM. The one complaining said "you shouldn't even bother rolling the dice". I had first turn, rolled 2 1's, and a 2 for the ghosthelm save. Game hadn't even started and my seer looses a wound.
unless you take a fail-safe detonator (according to GW you can use it after you eject)The only thing I see it used for is making the enemy waste a shooting phase to kill your Crisis Pilot.
Today I played an 1850pt battle against a SM army using Vulcan He'stan and Sgt. Telion, and on turn 2 they both died to Mind Wars from my Farseers. By turn 5, there were two marines left, the game ended, and there were no eldar casualties at all....but those two marines were standing on objectives, winning the game for the Smurfs.

My friend's brother plays multiple armies, including IG, Orks and, in this case the SM.
Being the little scrub he is, he constantly makes specifically anti-Tau armies, then he expects me to play against them.
How fun.
The latest list he bugged me to play against was an assault drop pod list that dropped an Assault Squad with Power Weapons, a Tactical Squad with some BIG Special Character who has FNP. These are in Drop Pods, and pop on down for assaulty fun. Definitely not anti-Tau, right?
After him constantly bugging me to play I conceded, and prepared for a very stupid game.
He went first, and sent down his Tactical squad 11" from the table edge and rolled to scatter.
Two six's. FAIL.
He lost 3 KP right there. Next my squads shot up my his Infiltrated Scouts, killing them. He failed to bring in reserves next turn. Having no units, he insta-lost.
The game took 5 minutes.

When in a tournament, I played a KP game in which the same thing happened to the enemy. The judge ruled that if his reserves did not come in, he lost. Me and my friends play by those rules now. If there is something wrong, I'd be glad to change my perception.
He failed to bring in reserves next turn. Having no units, he insta-lost.common misconception, theres no such rule as "must have units on the table"
The game took 5 minutes.

I don't have my rulebook with me so I can't give a Page reference, but check out the Wipe Out! rule in the missions section.
The judge at that tournament has obviously misinterpreted that rule, as it seems a lot of people have. Wipe Out only comes into play at the End of a game.
I see that you too has gotten an ex of the leakrd pdf ;)
Killed me a whole squad of dire avengers and 3 broadsides in one shot with my cobra tank the other day. Problem was, the dire avengers were mine and the broadsides were my ally's. Was going for 2 large nobz mobs that would be in cc next turn (I didn't want them to make it. They didn't make it, but because I accidentally destroyed the units they were going to charge ;).Just wondering what is a Cobra tank? Super heavy imperial tank?
My opponent made up for it though. His scheduled bombardment ended up hitting his army all 3 times (because he was stupid).
Just the other night a friend and I tied for victory points O.o
I charged a wraithlord with the masque and a single daemonette. 1 rend from the masque. Of the daemonette's 4 attacks, 3 hit, and 2 rended. The onlookers were quite amused.
Daemonettes have do not have 4A, and only have that when charging.
Still, what did you expect from them? Daemonettes ARE the Daemon's answer to high T creatures.
Sorry, thought it was the other way around. My bad, sorry.Totally fine, I'm just defending Jester.
Late practise game, just a few minutes ago. Huron Blackheart just killed Lysander. HURON for God's Sake! Lysander beat down Abaddon without breaking a sweat but he got beat by Huron?!How exactly does that happen? That musta been terrible dice for Lysander and great luck for Huron.

Eldar (me) against sisters a couple of weeks ago.
An almost full squad of banchees assaults a unit of sisters with around 30 attacks.
a few dice later only ONE sister is dead.....one!!!
Don't think I'll bring the banchees next time
When one of the Princes gets toasted by Las Cannon fire, he calls the game.
Abbadon and obliterators deepstruck at the top of the 6th turn right on our objective contesting the objective we thought we controlled, the second objective across the field was locked down. You auto Deepstrike turn 5. ;)
well this isn't annoying to me but i could see the anger in "hamburgular hills" eyes playing a large game around 3k dark eldar and eldar tag team vs IG and a daemon hunter/spacemarine armyHahaha, bro, you should have seen it when I used my Daemons on Saturday. Poor lad had such bad luck.
his ally run forward against the eldar and gets blown to hell due to 2 dark reaper squad this is all happening at the same time as the dark eldar move up the other flank and take very lil causualtys then the kicker the archon gets left alone and the WHOLE GUARDSMAN army open fire on him and take the grand total of 0 wounds from the guy suck it guard
Hmmm... the deserter... even though he couldn't win this game he should have stay and play to the end!
Hahaha, bro, you should have seen it when I used my Daemons on Saturday. Poor lad had such bad luck.
I would also like to add - a Great Unclean with Aura of Decay and a Bloodthirster attacking large units of infantry is SO. MUCH. FUN.
The girl very politely, and very straightforwardly asks if we are casting a curse on them.
I can imagine this, especially if you were rolling dice and chanting solemnly in fluff ;DThe girl very politely, and very straightforwardly asks if we are casting a curse on them.
That's probably the most unexpected thing ever. But you and your friends could have a great chance to introduce some young ones to the hobby (although you might end up with some angry parents on your hands if you aren't careful).
@ BCA11, you want funky dice? I got your funky dice!
try this on for size. In a competition I played at on the weekend. I Black Templar was being shot at by IG missile launcher. My opponent rolled the dice and when the dice stopped rolling I stood stunned. Before my opponent could pick the dice up I called over the competition judge and asked for a ruling on the dice roll. You see It landed cocked. There was competiton photographer there and he took severa photos of this cocked dice. What made this cocked dice so special was, it was on a completely flat surface and had landed on one of its corners and stayed there. I will get the photo to prove it soon.
weeks ago i fought guard and managed to bring 3/4 valkyries down with 6's. on venom cannons. the hive tyrant died to lasgun fire. not a good day for my tyrant.

Altough it seems he had fun up untill then ;)
same game a soomsday device blew up my shadowsword with 4 consecuative 6's. The neuclear explosion wiped about 1.5k guard off the table.
somehow straken was the only model left standing in our defensive ring.
I used the new Yarrick mounted on the Fortress of Arrogance in an Apocalypse game yesterday- IG and Tau vs. Eldar, Dark Eldar, Orks and Tyranids (2v2). The Eldar player used The Seer Council of Ulthwe datasheet, giving them Careful Planning, Ambush and Strategic Redeployment. In an act of unsportsmanlike conduct, they then used Careful Planning with Flank March to bring in a Goff Klawstompa filled with a Carnifex, Hive Tyrant and the Red Terror on the first turn. For some reason I didn't take this possibility into account during deployment, so my F o' A was only 22" from the edge, so it died in an Apocalyptic Explosion on the first turn without firing a shot, and the Goff Klawstompa proceeded to run around pooping out Tyranid Monstrous Creatures until we destroyed it. Yarrick, however, was undamaged in the explosion, killed an Autarch, died, came back to life, killed the Hive Tyrant, killed a Haemonculus, died, came back to life, killed a squad of Dire Avengers, died, came back to life, died, came back to life, destroyed a Wave Serpent, died, came back to life, knocked the Star Cannon off another Wave Serpent, and then the game ended. Don't mess with Yarrick's ride. This gave me a laugh when I read it. THe wonders of apocalypse.
kill point gameI was really hoping you were going to wax lyrical about the insanity of our game :D
space marines vs my dark eldar
(im already at a disadvantage due to my paper aeroplanes)
stole the first turn!
one dark lance hits predator thats hiding in cover with 3 combat squads near his board edge.predator explodes killing atleast 3 marines form each squad forcing test all 3 squads run away leaving me with 4 kill points after firing one gun! and one flank mine!
rest of the game was me trying to be as sportman as i can and running into close combat which i seem to pass alot of saves when i had to take them which nasty but its just the luck of the draw
Consequently, the ensuing explosion also kills the last terminator. Oops!
also heard a guardsman player when he lost a flank just calmly turn around and say "don't worry guys we have another flank and this one has tanks on it!"
blood angels vs dark eldar again!I've been quoted twice this week :P I feel amusing.
command posts, one of the greatest comments i've ever heard while there was a mass combat on one side of the table what "we have objective's i thought we where just killing eachother?"
You are Raktra, yes you are.
Anyways, another funny thing that happened to me in 40k... Ended up killing off an entire Tau flank with 1 normal space marine. Charged a tau squad, killed 1, made them flee, charged a devileifsh and krakkked it to death, then charged a unit of kroot and beat the
Also, note it doesn't hit units in vehicles, IIRC.
Not exactly IN 40k, but I woke up this morning realizing that eldar jetbikes explain everything. Except that they don't.My question...what the heck where you thinking?

I have no idea. One of those things where you wake up from a dream and you can't remember anything from it but the last thought or association.
I woke up screaming "beslubbering Jetbike Autarchs!" on Saturday weirdly enough. Odd times. Not exactly IN 40k, but I woke up this morning realizing that eldar jetbikes explain everything. Except that they don't.My question...what the heck where you thinking?

So, the meaning of life isn't 42.
The answer lies in Eldar Jetbikes.

I woke up screaming "beslubbering Jetbike Autarchs!" on Saturday weirdly enough. Odd times. That's probably the most bad thing to happen in 40k I've seen. :D
Two battles in a row during my 'Ard Boyz Prelimenary games I rolled four 1s out of seven 2+ To Wound rolls with my Thunder Hammer-toting Assault Terminators. I won the games anyway, but I just had to stare at the dice in my hand after retrieving them and wonder if they should be retired. ::)

What does that have to do with Necrons? Just out of curiosity?
"-That is all."
I have merged this thread. Lol!!!!I happened to read that last post. Funniest thing and poster for a long time, yeah.
Not so much funny/good/bad, more a disappointment. Kid from London was up for a day and wanted a 2k game, so I agreed and he made a list. Said he'd never lost in 2 years, so of course I was skeptical. The reason he'd never lost was he did not know a single rule. Shame really, I was hoping for a hard fought win, in the end I only lost 2 Bloodletters...Funny and embarassing at the same time. Not a single rule? Not a single one? That's sad. And he's been playing for 2 years and no ones bothered to correct him...
Seriously, not one. Didn't even know the phases. That's very disappointing...oh well...
No, that's stupendously ridiculous. You are an awful understater Tauir...Seriously, not one. Didn't even know the phases. That's very disappointing...oh well...

I blame it on me being too nice a person in general. :DGods...
@ Cheesy: He just put his sorcerer alone? Without a unit? Or a rhino at least? Seems kinda sad...
calling a molecule rule on my friends deamon prinses very bottom of his foot through like 6 ruinsHuh? I don't follow... ???
and prolly the one that made me the most mad, jumping my serphans (from my SoB army) into a treeline, only to roll 7 1's and killing the whole squad, we just sat there dumbfounded as we look at the dice... that day my sisters where very unfaithfullOh my... I wonder what unfaithful acts they may have committed to suffer such an ignominious death... Guess they had a little too much fun at the Astartes/Sororitas get together the night before, eh? ;)
calling a molecule rule on my friends deamon prinses very bottom of his foot through like 6 ruinsHuh? I don't follow... ???
i could bairley see ther very bottom of the deamon princes foot no base no nothing just the very botom of his foot (it was in a industrial terrain setup)
another one that was funny i forgot to add is my wyches shooting a shredar about 6" away from by friends spikeys at them, and it coming back and killing my whole squad of wyches :(
1700: Eldar vs GuardYou'd have to be pretty lucky...hits on 2s wounding on 4s means it should've taken you all 7 turns...and that's without him KOing your Vindicare with something...and him not taking cover saves...
Eldar Player: Hah, you'll never kill Eldrad! 3++ rerollable FTW!
Me: You didn't read my army list, did you?
Him:... No?
Me: Have you ever heard of a Callidus Assassin?
Him: No?
Me: Cool. Have fun with that invulnerable save.

A Callidus assassin is not a vindicare assassin Tauir.....you have just been added to the Funny portion of this thread.Whoops. ;)
Stubborn LD9 Tyrant and retinue fled from combat against some Elves... For beslubber's sake lads.
And my 2 wraith lords were demolished by a squad of assault terminators, where surprisingly the lightning claw one did the most.Lightning claw terminators can't hurt wraithlords. They need to be at LEAST str 5 to even wound it on a 6.
Yesterday, I've been beaten by my wife at Space Hulk. Twice. Her first games ever. :-[
Not technically 40K, but it has to be said: Yesterday, I've been beaten by my wife at Space Hulk. Twice. Her first games ever. :-[Next comes the trip to the LGS...then the eventual "oh, that looks nice"...then the long hours she spends making an army...then the eventual crushing. :D
She liked the game, want to beat me again she says...
Starky
His turn he blows up the Rhino and 8!! Marines dies in explosion ;D (chance to happen roughly 1 to 3.000.000)
Hahaha now that was bad ass.
Hmmm...if only guard were goblins I could have proposed the the rule was squabbling..
Was it some sort of moral test? And the vox was enabling the squad to use the Commanders leadership?
Tau beat my IG Vets in Close Combat.

i've had a brood lord mop up about 580pts worth of space marines by himself two halves of two tac squads a 6 man terminator squad and a dread(so really no suprise he stomped you in close combat)
I should have done two wounds, and I did nothing dude, that's just bad luck nothing to do with how strong a broodlord is.

Keep this on track... the topic is
Good/Bad/Funny/randomthing to happen in 40K!
Cheer, moc065
My deep-striked Crisis teams were facing down certain doom from a basilisk, right up until he scattered back onto himself, penned, and rolled a destroyed result..........I don't get it. Basilisk minimum range is 36. Even if you scatter 18" there's no way it can land back on the basilisk itself.
Was playing doubles a while back with Farsight and had the Avatar of Khaine charge. He missed all of his rolls to hit, and all of his rolls to wound...
played a game today. you know how snipers are supposed to be really good at shooting? well the guy shot his SM Snipers at my IG infantry squad every single turn, and never killed anyone. one of the rounds he got all ones for his rolls to hit ;DWhat do you expect from about-to-be-marines guys with BS 3? I didn't expect mine to do anything rather than just disruption unit, but my bolter-armed CC slaughtered a chaos marines squad once: hit with 14 rounds and wounds with 10. Traitors scum failed all armor saves! Praise the Emperor and strike down his foes wooooppee ;D
Now i have decided to put all of my daemons on square bases and start playing WFB with them instead, going from lower-half tier to top-tier in and instant ;DAmen. Hahahahaha.
A holo-field falcon withstood 3 assault phases worth of assault from a Carnifex and a hive tyrant, even when it was immobilized on the first.
A squad of guardians assaulted the 4 remnants of a squad of hormagaunts that Fuegan was already engaged with. Fuegan didn't have much trouble dealing with them (started at around 14 strong and only caused 1 wound), but After the consolidation rolls I used my guardians to provide a semicircle defence around Fuegan so that the nearby Carnifex & Tyrant (who as of that time had not yet killed the Falcon) couldn't kill my phoenix lord. In the next turn, the fex & tyrant killed all but 2 of my guardians, who held their ground, which happened to be right next to an objective.
My 8 hawks managed to (without doom) inflict 5 wounds on a warrior squad.....I needed 6 to kill it.
In addition my seer council (just the warlocks, Eldrad was off somewhere else) charged through cover into a different 14 hormagaunts, lost 1 with destructor, killed around 3 of them (horrible to hit roll). Gaunts failed their test, and were swept.
Eldrad, without fleet left the council, and went to deal with 3 spore mines that missed their target on deep strike. He first tried to shoot them, and failed to wound. So he charged into them.
Tonight, 1 lone reaver jetbike charged a unit of guardians, took 2 turns to make them run, ran them down, then shot his blaster at a fire prism, decimated it, next turn moved and shot at a wave serpent, did nothing, charged it, rolled a 6, then a 6, then another 6 to immobilize it killing the serpent (he moved 24 inches). Made his points back nicely.

Tell me: can Archons ride bikes? because that guy deserves a higher rank ^^

I told the little guy he was gonna get fully painted, and not just table top quality either.
lol. that'd actually be kind of fun to promote your minis in rank when they do exceptionally well
My Summoned Greater Daemon killed 4 Assault Terminators (two with Shield/Hammer and two with LCs) by himself adn the terminators got the charge. Way to go earning your points back ^^
I would like to promote him for that deed, but thats kind of hard for a GD, now isnt it :P
If he's a generic GD you could always make him the special one???
I was playing a 2 vs 2 apoc game of 10,000 points a side. I dont have any titans so i took lots of stuff compared to everyone else. but of that there was bout 150 guardians, 4 Wraithlords, Eldard with wraithguard and a warlock and bunch of other stuff. well my partner was space pups and we were up against necrons and CSM.
My team mate took a warhound titan... First Turn (which they went first) the warhound goes nucular and Rolled max distance and everything of mine is dead... EXCEPT FOR ELDRAD lol and he ended up surviving till the bitter end of defeat lol. The best part of all is that Eldrad was right under the feet of the titan lol.
you really want to know??? lol it was a tie lol although i cant take any credit for getting my team the tie, it was all my partner. lol
teaching a guy how to play yesterday after he bought black reach. I took Orks, he took marines. After losing several boyz to shooting, my warboss ran across the field, assaulted his terminators and commander, saved 6 wounds, then preceded to slaughter the captain, and force the termies to run away.
Wait, how did you do all that during your movement phase? :O
You cannot blow up a Monolith with a single nothing special ML armed SM. You only glance on 6s, which means you can at best immobilise it. No explosion possible.Sorry, back in 4th, during the second Ard Boyz tourny, rolled lots of 6's, very exciting.

Everything just escalated into a giant amphetamine parrotstorm of suck that has marred my awesome W/D/L ratio...
Seer of Elyon, jsut so ya know, SW termies cant deepstrike, unless they pod in. But still, i recommend you give those guardians a fitting promotion :D
Have a question for all the posters here: when your models have some awesome legendary rolls, are they very well painted? After my assault cannon termies keep jamming and missing, I added a whole bunch of purity seal and decorations and turn it into a kind of ceremonial weapon. It hits with every shot after that ;)
... If I'm such an elite player, then how could I miss such an obvious error? As I mentioned in my original rant, I know a ton about the rules of 40K, and many of the rules for armies I don't even play, but it takes a huge amount of processing power to just play a game with my Tyranids, between adapting strategies and remembering and using all of the special rules. I'm left with little extra brainpower to dedicate to other tasks, so I was working overtime just to play my army correctly and trying to ensure my opponent was playing properly. I just didn't have the free brainpower to catch this mistake, which annoys me a lot. It is now something I will keep in my memory incase this situation occurs again.
I also should have informed my opponent of all the crazy things Eldar do, especially since he hadn't faced them before. There were quite a few moments were I explained a particular rule or ability or weapon and he didn't believe me (understandable but a little insulting) and had to see for himself. Hopefully, I will remember to do this in the future.
For next week, I plan to have an interesting challenge. I'm going to have this opponent team up with another player (also Marines, and very new) to have a 2000 point list with two FOCs, and I will use a 1500 point list (probably as CSM or Tyranids) with one FOC. I think a 500 point handicap plus the potential for more heavy/elite choices may be able to make a match between us more fair (I've beaten him with a 200 point handicap before, though). I won't be able to use my killer 1850 list because of my point cap, but I won't hold back on the evilness of my list.
I'm not willing to purposefully weaken my army lists
(he's not a noob, he just sucks at playing because he has never applied himself in the year since he started.
I really don't like this kind of game. It isn't a challange at all. In fact, it is easy to do.
Before people start be-atching about me talking about beating a bad player, I would like to point out two things. First, an advanced player tabling a beginner is not a post-worthy event, but an advanced player tabling a beginner without giving up a single kill point is.
[I brag about noob smashing yet again.]
1600 point game with my Eldar vs Marines (he's not a noob, he just sucks at playing because he has never applied himself in the year since he started. If I was more comfortable with my Eldar, I would have given him extra points to try and balance it out a bit, but I'm a novice as far as actually playing as them goes.),
Good god will you just say "cool Galerazorwind, no kill points is pretty interesting!" and continue with your lives? I see 4 large posts on his apparently ruthless ways. Your clogging up this thread as much as you say he is.As much as I agree with them, I also have to agree with Yarrik here. In future please just keep to the thread, and Gale, I suggest you think carefully before you post things like that again as this isn't the first time this has happened in this thread, and I'd rather not see it repeatedly de-railed in such a fashion.
Well this wasn't in a game or anything, but I bought myself a tiny yet efficient SM today at a Bizarre Bazaar today. For $28, I acquired 5 Assault Marines, 1 LR, 3 squads of Tactical Marines, 2 plasma SM, 3 or 4 plasma cannon SM, 3 LC marines, 5 Terminators, and a Drop Pod.
The thing is, I bought a LR from a kid for $10 already assembled extremely well unpainted, he then goes and buys a LR Crusader that is missing ALL of its guns and is painted extremely poorly IMO. I'm wondering what prompted him to sell a perfectly good LR and purchase an extremely poor one.

Had the game ended on turn 5, I would have won (3-1), ...
Whirlwind fired a shot and scattered right onto his own vindicare assassin hiding in some woods. Killed him b4 he had a chance to shoot even once.
How did you hurt a Land Raider with a Sniper Rifle? The max penetration possible is only 12 vs a LR's AV14.
2 landraiders spent 2 turns of shooting 4 TL lascannon shots between them at one tac. squad and rolled nothing but 1s to hit, then they got blown up by my landspeeder ;D
it's 8 1's. 2 las cannons on each Land Raider not 4 on each. Thanks Ail-Shan, My math bad, yours good. :-[
Draggo, you're still wrong. Each Lascannon gets one shot according the the Space Marine Codex. Twin linking just means that you can re roll misses. So if each Land Raider has two Twin Linked Lascannons, that means two re rollable Lascannon shots per turn, tops. That means that to hit, you will be rolling a maximum of four dice. Multiply that by two, and 4 times 2 is equal to eight, not sixteen, okay?

2 lascannons per land raider x 2 land raiders x 2 turns x failing on the first shot and rerolling to miss again = 16 rolls that all came up as 1.
I know, I have a hard time with math too and had to use a calculator on that one ;)
Venerable brother Ashamon (iron clad dreadnought) single handedly took out 3 killa kans and 2 deff dreads (Dunno if thats impressive. I thought it was good.)
Recently my friend rolled 1 one for a difficult terrain test for his battlewagon, then rolled a one for the re-roll, then he rolled a one for his other battle wagon, then rolled a one for the re-roll, then the next game he rolled a one for his difficult terrain test, then rolled a one for the re-roll. All true, and all of which made him hate his orks even more.
my opponent rolled a dice and it landed, perfectly balanced, on one corner :o no jokes
they can do it because they believe they can do it"=P
"see this guy? he is called Logan. he is the Space Wolf Primarch and has Ld 12 and 15 wounds. good luck killing him"
It's not. You can not re-roll a re-roll. He gets to use the boss pole once.
Ok, fair enough. The squad won't break 97% of the time, mathematically. That's high enough to expect them not to break.
For a set of rounds after Playing endless idiotic games, my friends and I decided to just roll dice to see who was more chaotic/ daemonic.
I rolled 66 triple 6's in a row. We stopped at 66 because one of the gamer's was very religous.

That's a law there? Wow. Gonna have to look that up when I head over there.
That's just a statement as to how OP meph. is.
Not sure on the rules for bio-titans, but when using grenades, you only get 1 attack, regardless of the number in your profile. So that would mean, 1 attack, even on the charge.yh, got that. it has been pointed out multiple times since my post. The thing is, it was years ago when i had just got back into 40k and most of my group were just starting out. we missed a rule. who cares?
Before the new rules for the vehicle damage table my Land Raider Crusader was taken out by a lone Necron warrior that was falling back.... :'(

4. "Dude, why are your models lying down?" "Because then you can't see them." "So they went to ground?" "No." "..........ok then I'll shoot my Tempest Launcher at you, it won't matter if they are lying down, I'll just hit more." *moves lying down models, when I'm about to place the template, so that I will get only 1* "dude you can't do that." "Yeah I can." "How? it isn't your turn." "because they are marines and they can do anything." "Right.........." Especially when said models don't even have bases or bolters............ .

*I reach for the small blast template, he notices and starts inching his models away from each other. Here's a before and after diagram: (M means a marine.)

Considering I had almost tabled him already, I just sighed and put the template over them. I won the game anyways, so I don't really care, but it just really bugs me.
stating what is riding in transports. i know i don't say what is in what because they are all PMs with only special weapon swaps, but i do have my Rhinos modeled in such a way so that i can remember what specail weapon the squad has and i always keep it the same.
there are players in my group that really do not inform you about what is in their transports and it would be really nice to know that before everything is piling out ontop of my army so that i could have planned my turns a bit better.
I also think though very annoying. If you are on the battlefield with enemy transports, would you really know what squad is in them? This however should be fixed by havin a piece of paper taped below the transport with the definition of what is in the squad in it.I personaly put my special weapon marines on top of my Transports so i remember which one is in which. that way noone can accuse me of cheating either =P
my friend who does orks
or cheats a bit (on army composition or on some rules), or both
or cheats a bit (on army composition or on some rules), or both
in what ways is he cheating?
Also. Has anyone else found that Terminators survive ONLY Hits that ignore armour? mine got shot at by a Tac. Squad with a Meltagun, Lascannon and Combi - Melta. 7 died to bolters. 3 survived on their 5++...

Had to call a game off during turn two due to rain.
You were outside?? ???
QuoteYou were outside?? ???
Fixed that. We're war gamers mind you.
Why wouldn't you play outside (besides when its inclimate weather) ?
We do it up here in Canada (from time to time in the summer) as I have a great big Deck and my table and terrain are all portable. So why not grab a few buddies, flash up your bar-b-que, crack a few coolies and start throwing the dice around; feel free to play Warhammer 40K or Fantasy as well.
In the summer we take advantage of the sunny weather as we have enough time inside during the beautiful Canadian Winter.
Cheers

I agree. The only way I can see that working is if the marines were within 2" of the marshal, which, if they were, why didn't the marshal charge?
My unit of 8 uncubi, and incubi master and archon all getting turned into spawn by aeuto'keres (the big imperial armour lord of change) and then the spawn assaulting my wyches and tying them up for the rest of the game!
i had a regular line sgt. i named kowalski, from my Ig army. one game against deathwing, belial drops in and takes out a tank next to his squad. mind you kowalski isnt an officer, just a basic sg.t w/ laspistol and ccw. belial drops his squad with his termies and himself in the next turn... druing the end of my turn, my sgt. kills belial with his last attack. needless to say, kowalski got promoted to junior officer. ;)
Horus: Hello, gamers. Look at your Primarch, now back to me, now back to your Primarch, now BACK to ME. Sadly, he isn't me, but if he stopped using Eldar-scented bodywash and switched to Warp Spice, he could smell like he's me. Look down, back up, where are you? You're on a battle-barge, with the Primarch your Primarch could smell like. What's in your hand? Back at me. I have it, it's a holo-key with two codes to that thing you love. Look again: the holo-key is now a lightning claw! Anything is possible when your Primarch smells like Warp Spice and not an Eldar. I'm on a scenic base.
I have similar Hero kroot in my army, They never once failed a Ld check, always rolling snake eys. Once for 3 turns in a row!Thats loaded dice for ya ;)
Well, I had the complete opposite. My Terminator got PWNT by IG. With LAS GUNS.I have similar Hero kroot in my army, They never once failed a Ld check, always rolling snake eys. Once for 3 turns in a row!Thats loaded dice for ya ;)
Seriously though, my Sniper Scouts are exactly the same. Arround here it is known as "soft model syndrome" Ie the models people assume to be easy targets always turn out to be completely IMPOSSIBLE to kill ;D
Played a game of 1500 pts of Codex Marines vs 2k Dark Angels today to prove a point. Point proved ;D
My Libby killed both Belial AND azerial (sp?) in CC. Scout Landspeeder Storm blew up a Landraider on Turn 1 ect.
I lost 4 Kilpoints (1 Tac.Squad, 1 bike squad, my Scouts and their Transport) and gained 10 kilpoints in return, totaly wiping him from the table :)
Belial and 5 Termies dropped 1" behind a Tactical Squad and killed... 1 marine with shooting... Next turn they got shot and assaulted by:
10 Terminators with an Assault Cannon
Vulkan Hestan
My Libby
The Tac Squad....
nomnomnom =]
Doing a rematch next week @ 2k so i may do a Batrep
how is this for random
7 turn battle
night lords vs sisters of battle 750 points
total losses on both sides 2.
our commanders :P on the very last turn.
absolutely no other casualties.
how is that for a random thing that is very unlikely to ever happen again
I don't understand. total losses, but no other casualties than your commanders?
and the third by a ramming Vyper! Best bit - the Vyper survived! ;D
and the third by a ramming Vyper! Best bit - the Vyper survived! ;D
Vyper can't ram. It's not a tank, ramming is a subsection of tank shock, which only tanks and certain vehicles with upgrades can do.
I had a drive by with my salamanders. a special weapons marine in a rhino spotted an armoured sentinels rear armour and popped out of the top hatch and blew it up

Weren't there a rule somewhere that special and heavy weapons may not be fired from vehicles? I remember reading something about fire points where you could only use your quads most basic weaponry...
It might be the old Chimera entry though, with its fixed lasguns.
@ rezzzed how did you manage that(3 games not losing the prime)?
lost my entire marine army to just one squad of wyches.
Last night, Salamanders vs Word Bearers, my Dreadnought (t/l multimelta and DCCW) couldn't destroy the stupid rhino in his face for 3 rounds. His rhinos were the most resilient thing in his army. His Lord tripped over his Daemon Weapon giving him his second wound and not letting him attack Vulkan who later killed him. In the end, it came down to a lone Tactical Sgt. running back to my objective to claim it, my LRR destroying the same rhino mentioned above contesting my objective and him getting lured 0.25" too far away from his objective. If it had been a draw I had him on kill points.I'd like to point out that I was rightfully granting that .25" because it was less embarrassing than tieing and having to look at the kill tallies. ;)
rolled armour saves for his termies and rolled 4 1"s he wasn't best pleased
Playing verses Necrons I leveled 36 Scatterlaser shots at my opponets lord and 4 man Pariah squad. It took 31 hits (luckiest I had ever been) to actually drop the whole squad only to have the lord stand back up with all three wounds and charge into and destroy a nearby guardian squad. I started collecting Necrons the next day.

No, all weapon destroyed + immobilized + another weapon destroyed or immobilized = wrecked.
You are allowed to be a useless box that can work as a bunker for infantry. You're just much easier to kill at that point.
That is ridiculously awsome :O
My scouts can't even hit anything and they have sniper rifles :'(

I recently fought a battle using my Crimson Fists against IG. I felt that the performance of my thunderfire cannon and his techmarine just had to be remembered. I've never seen it fight better or fought one that played better. The IG had 5 heavy weapon squads, two of them mortars. Several Leman Russes, many infantry squads, two chimerias, and a command squad and a big ass tank that had 4 autocannons on it. The thunderfire cannon was firing on all cylinders (litrelally) from turn 1. It took out an entire infantry squad that was bunched around an objective with an airburst salvo. (Thats what you get for packing your men close together) Then my opponent realised the danger of it so he used his mortars to fire on my cannon. Thankfully one scattered but the other one sturck home. The techmarine rolled for his invunurable save and passed it! May the Emperor bless artificiter armour! In the next turn the cannon imbobilised a Leman Russ with a brill shot. Unfortunatly things were going fairly south with the rest of the force as two chimerias flanked me and a bloody ratling squad in hard cover took out half a tactical squad and my dreadnought which had come down in a drop pod got imobilised. Once again my techmarine was hit by a mortar and once again passed his invunurable save! The Emperor was clearly watching him. He got pounded by autocannon fire but he survived that unwounded. In the next turn it took out two heavy weapon squads showing them if you don't kill him after two turns your gonna know about it. So meanwhile my vanuguard veterans died, along with my termies, tactical squads and my dreadnought lost its multimelta. so basically i was down to the cannon and a preadetor with only twin linked heavy bolters left. Nice. Anyway my cannon blasted another squad down to half strength so that was good. Anyway in my opponents next turn he was feeling pretty good when he disembarked his command squad right next to my techmarine. Brilliant. Amazingly he survived plasma gun and a lot of lasguns (a nearby infantry squad was in range. I decided it might be a good idea to charge rather than be charged. Seeing as he is counted as having power claws my techmarine was to strike last. Unfortunatly his lucky streak ran out as he sustained a wound from the command squad. However payback was sweet and he left only one member alive, fleeing in terror. The game was objectives and my techmarine had been deployed on mine, so it was looking even. At this stage my techmarine was the last of my units. Unfortunatly in his last turn he claimed the other objective and won the game but my techmarine and his trusty boomgun survived the ordeal! :{)
He forgot that only models in base contact can target ICs.
15 wounds on an Archon with Shimmershield, didn't roll a 1 until the 15th die
Recently I played a game as Grey Knights against a nurgle army with Typhus leading it. Much to the anger of the chaos player after his typhus and pals terminator squad charged one of my paladin squads with Grand Master we were stuck in a stalemate for about 3 turns before the combat ended... And by the end of it his typhus had managed to wound himself only and was later force weaponed to death. His termies were wiped out and my paladins were wiped out thanks to the intervention of a chaos dread. Its unbelievable that typhus didn't kill anything and that he doesn't have eternal warrior XD

Typhus has a poisoned daemon weapon that's also a force weapon and casts psychic powers automatically, if he had eternal warrior, he'd be getting pretty retarded.
[removes quote pyramid]
I have been thinking sometimes that powerful IC's like Chapter Masters or Eldar Farseers etc should have the Eternal Warrior rule, since they are such powerful and unique beings/characters.
And then I realize... it's 40k. everything dies.
More on topic; I recall a situation where my friend was going to use his Farseers psychic power Mind War. That Farseer had 1 wound left AND it was the final round of the game. We played with victory points (this is a while back) and we played to kill each other. I had like a few chaos marines left with a HQ in the troop (don't remember what they were called, this is many years ago), and he had his Farseer and a few guardians with a heavy weapon. I had managed to gun down his Falcon with a really lucky shot and now we we're almost even in points left on the board. On his turn he fired his heavy weapon (think it was an EML), but he missed. He then proceeds to using Mind War on my leader, whom I recall had just 1 wound due to some hand-to-hand combat earlier.
I warned him about perils of the warp, told him that he had already won if he just let it go. He smiles at me and picks up his three dice, then rolls them. While they roll he starts to say "I have runes of warding and ghosthelm. I'll be fine."
3 1's. And his ghosthelm failed. Bam! one dead farseer. Guess if someone out in the warp favoured chaos? I won by a few measly points thanks to that ;) (we counted even 1 VP over the other as a victory, even though I think technically that would be a draw).
I think he had both. This is years ago, forgive me if my memory is a bit dull ^^
What I remember he didn't pull the MW off. I guess they might have been 3 6's then? Or perhaps we just didn't read the rules well enough :P
phase out?
lost a game cause i charged and lost combat to a single marine with the death leaper
My friend looks at me, and then proceeds to roll my dice, he gets 1,2,2,3.
I love my Green GW dice. SO very very much.
What about the fearless thing (is it "Mob Rule"?)? as long as a unit of boys has 11 models or more it is fearless.
Or was i jsut a very small mob of boys? :P
Had a game against a black templar player wiht my Eldar, the emperor's champion charged my wraitguard at the same time a templar squad did. 4 turns later, the templar squad had gone down form 8 men to 3 and fled, the Emperor's champion was down to one wound, and I had suffered no wounds :D :P The next turn he finally killed my Warlock(he had been focussing on him the hwole time and suffered a wound form the witchblade, only to then get killed by the wraithguard :D the same tiem as this, one of my Wraithlords did nothing, all it's shots either missing or not penetrating the dread, even failing to do more then shake it in combat!

Templars are fearless in combat, they wouldn't flee.
Versus the venerable Space Wolf Lord Logan Grimnar, it was interesting to see a close combat monster fall to Mind War. A roll of 6 versus Logan's 1 is funny. The cool thing is that whilst other armies will struggle to take out Logan, our farseers make it look so effortless after saying to the honorable opponent: "Logan, you will stop fighting us, drop your weapons, take off your terminator armour and dance around naked on the field"
ah yes, mind war is quite hilarious when you kill their souped up nurgle deamon prince and they threaten to leave the game because they think your cheating until you show them the codex entry. his face, priceless ;D
I had a game with my Black Templars dual-Assault Terminator+Marshal in LRC deathstar list vs. Deathwing Terminator spam (6 or so squads, all with Cyclones, TH+SS, etc.). I rushed in and killed about 1/2 to 2/3 of his Terminators before the counterattack obliterated all of my Terminators and my Marshals, leaving me with two LRCs, a tiny LasC+PlasG squad and a 10 man crusader squad in my backfield. It is about the start of turn 4, and I'm down on kill points 5 to 3 or so. Game over, right? Wrong! I decided to not give up, and proceeded to kite his Terminators with my LRCs, surviving all the way through turn 7, despite several charges and assaults on them, which did just about nothing (a few shakens, although one was immobilized and lost a few of its weapons), and I managed to snipe out enough KPs to put me at 6 to his 5. Yay for sheer stupid dumb luck!
While trying to demonstrate to a new Grey Knights player how the turbo penetrator round from a vindicare assassin works. I rolled the prereq 4d6.... 8)
Yes you guessed all 6's. :o So I then explained that because it was a sniper rifle, and what that means in reguards to rending. And the New grey knight player's eyes became as big as blast templates, and his mouth began to water. ;D
I think He might be taking a vindicare i his army :-\
Played a game of Kill Team. 5 Banshees, 5 Dragons against 9 Noise Marines. By the end of turn 2, it all came down to one Dragon and one Marine. 3 rounds of shooting later, and i decide to move for a shot that won't give a cover save. Try to quickly jump out of a ruined building, fail my dangerous terrain test, and prompltly fall to my death. An anticlimactic death after 3 tense rounds of exchanging fire.
This is too funny to not share.
Playing my Dark Angels vs Orks.
- Devastators fire Plasma Cannons at a full health Bonebreaka using Weapons of the Dark Age and bring it down to one wound.
- Talonmaster fires at Wartrike and kills it
- Wartrike explodes. Only unit within range of its explosion is the Bonebreaka.
- Bonebreaka dies and explodes
- Bonebreaka's explosion tags the Talonmaster that killed the Wartrike and rolls 6 for wounds.
- Talonmaster dies and explodes, dealing one mortal wound to Sammael on Sableclaw, leaving him with 5.
- Bonebreaka's explosion also tags Sammael and rolls a 5 for wounds done.
- Sammael does not explode, ending the epic chain reaction!
