Title: My New Chaos Infantry
Post by: Meatshield on September 27, 2008, 04:33:40 AM
Hello everyone!

I'm going to post some pictures of my chaos infantry. I normally play the Lost and the Damned so I will show off my new traitors, renegades, cultists, etc.

First I will start with a couple of traitors made from the new Cadian Guardsmen Box (the box with five men). Since these models are like the Assault on Black Reach models and have only three parts to snap together. While these men are good for fleshing out missing members from your squads, they are all posed in very generically. So in order to make my guys a bit more interesting I added a few bitz and some of battle damage to their gear.

Next up is one of my first new Blood Pact Troopers. If you don't know what a Blood Pact is then read Dan Abenett's "Gaunt's Ghosts" books. The Blood Pact are basically elite foot troops of Khorne who wear Steel Bowl Helmets, iron masks called grotesques and blood dyed fatigues. I'm beginning a small army of these men and this is my newest model.

Some followers of the Dark Gods are weak and delusional TOUGH AND MERCILESS!

I love Bloodpact, they make me feel all warm and fuzzy and murderous inside!

I'm going to post a lot more pictures.

The blood pact troops are very nice.  What kind of colour scheme are you planning? I'd guess a deep brown/red for the uniform (blood dyed, after all), but what about the helmets/masks/guns?

Looking good, especially Mr bloodpact. Can hardly wait to see them painted.

So the new packs of five are snap-togeather. :(  Is the weapon arm one of the three pats? So that you could perhaps make a flamer or grenade launcher guy with the spare parts from your regular plastics?

The blood pact guy looks ace, the helmet works a treat!

Nice knives on the cadian guys too. It gives them a suitable renegade touch.

the blood pact guy looks nice, but your other guys just look like bog standard imperial guardsmen, without some of the over-the-top iconography.

Yeah, another Blood Pacter! :D

Your guy looks totally awesome... very nice modeling on the grotesk. And you're using Westwind helmets too!

We should compare notes, though my blog hasn't been updated in a while 'cause I've been busy building. My Pact army is about 70% complete.

Are you doing any Stalk-tanks? Loxatl? Non-standard tanks like Reavers or Brigands? Do tell!

I'm guess your using the blood pack as your Hardened vets and the bulk of your trator gaurd being made from the cadians?

If so this will be a VERY slic army.

Mockingbird:
I'm going to paint them like my image over there

fugitive:
The new Cadian models are made of the body, the snap on lasgun arm, and the base. You could cut down the model and put a flamer on it, but I would suggest using these guys as lasgunners and using the regular guard bodies you have saved by implementing these guys into your force to equip with flamers.

Psycho Mantis:
Am I right in thinking that the helmets are west wind?
Yes, indeed they are.

Ailaros:
your other guys just look like bog standard imperial guardsmen
Wait what do you mean by "Bog Standard"? You mean like they can fight in a bog because they have tools to hack through the dense undergrowth?

Lucky_Jackal:
I will be doing that when I use my traitors in a renegade list. Otherwise I use these rules for Latd or sometimes the rengade list:

I would love to compare notes! I've seen your blog and I love the work you've done! Check your 40k online messages because I sent you a message a while ago, if it went through that is.

For my 1500 point army, aside from buying the Guard infantry and tanks, I probably only spent an extra $100 or so at Battlewagon Bits, buying Chaos bits and miscellaneous stuff to kit them out with. The Westwind heads are incredibly cheap, too - I spend about $20 USD for forty heads (that includes shipping). I think it all depends on how much you want to customize.

wow...   :o
Those Blood pact troops are incredible.  Don't know much about them myself, I haven't gone much outside the standard issue codecils.  I really like the backpacks and the gear you've kitted them out with.  I may just have to steal the backpack idea.  I don't play guard, but I like to get a set of random troops every once in a while just to build and paint, and I have plenty of extra SM bits in my SM bits box.

If I may be critical for a moment, I've got to say something about the filing down of your standard rebel-guards.  Perhaps it's just the picture, but the helmets seem to have flat planes where you have filed off the imp eagle.  Can I suggest a method I've found useful for curved surfaces?  It takes a little longer, but used a curling motion with your hand when filing, and do it lightly.  By curling motion (and a preemptive apology to all you Englishmen, no offense at all is meant by the following statement) I mean the stereotypical wave that we Americans equate with the English Queen.  Sort of like cupping a baseball and rubbing your hand around the surface.

I'd like to end on a positive note, though, and say that I haven't seen rebel troops look quite as cool as those blood pacters!

Alright time for another update!

Jolly Greggor:
I would attach a bayonet, but unfortunately all of the guard bayonets look to big on the autoguns.  :-\

ChaplainRobb:
As for the traitors, I may make the helmets a bit rounder, but as of now I'm going to focus on the Blood Pact because they are so fun to convert!

Alright now on to the pictures! Their are two new soldiers of the Pact for me to show! I want to save the rest of my auto-guns for later so I started using the lasgun arms. Some of the mold lines still need to be filed of these men, but I was so eager to take pictures so they are a little rough.

Armed to the teeth, the Pactsman rushes into the fray.

Sick.  Love that charging trooper.

You're right about the bayonets looking unnaturally large, but it kinda looks like he's slashing or guarding, and I associate a bayonet with both of those.

Maintain the progress.

Okay I been busy but here more stuff. These are my beloved cultists. Cheap. Expendable. Die in scores. Yet so many they can overwhelm enemies with sheer weight of numbers.

Imagine yourself as an Imperial guardsman. Your entire field of vision is filled with cultists charging straight for you.

Looks good Meatshield. You wouldn't happen to have a pic of one of your sweet looking bloodpact dudes (painted) as well?

What kinds of bits did you use on those cultists?  I really like the look, and may convert a few for my traitors...

Obviously I can pick out Ork weapons and Imperial Guard body parts... Marauder heads?  What else?
Title: Re: My New Chaos Infantry
Post by: Cripple, Whose Corporeal Form is Now a Shade of Blue on October 17, 2008, 02:57:52 PM
hmmm... from the looks of it most if the torsos came from bretonnian men-at-arms (of whatever they're called). I think most of the heads are from empire miniatures. I definitely recognize some flagellant heads and some state troop heads. I dont think I see any marauder heads in there.

Nice work!

((P.S. is that an old chaos cultist model I see in the back there, one of the ones with the cone-shaped hood?))

Well, I would be glad my Ld: is only seven, so I can run away.

Not with a nearby Commissar you won't! Also I have not yet painted any of my new Blood Pact yet.

What kinds of bits did you use on those cultists?

There are a ton of different types of bits I used on the cultists. I mainly use Bretonnian men at arms bodies for my cultists although I have used some some state troops I got for free at Gamesday. For arms and weapons I usually use a mix of Imperial guard, Chaos warrior, Chaos marauder, Empire flagellant, Empire state troops, Bretonnian (unsurprisingly) and ork parts. Some of the heads I converted from trophy decapitated heads or heads meant to be part of a chaos spawn.

is that an old chaos cultist model I see in the back there, one of the ones with the cone-shaped hood?

Yes it is. I also use some old scavvy Nercomunda models as well.

Looking good, as usual.

What did you use for the ejection port on the autogun? The bolter mag I recognise, but that part is unfamiliar.
Title: Re: My New Chaos Infantry
Post by: Meatshield on October 28, 2008, 01:27:00 PM
The ejection port is made from one of the ejection ports of a bolter I carefully cut out. The magazine is actually from a bolt pistol because I think the bolter clip is too long. Also I stuck the gun sight of the bolt pistol near the barrel end of the gun. The white gun sight parts are plasticard.

Meatshield, I like the shell ejection port but isn't it incredibly tedious removing the port from the bolter? where did you learn to do that anyways?

Meatshield, I like the shell ejection port but isn't it incredibly tedious removing the port from the bolter? where did you learn to do that anyways?
Taking out a bolter's ejection port is easy. I thought of the idea my self when I had found a bunch of messed up bolters and thought "how can I salvage these".

I think I'll do a tutorial on making my version of the autogun which will explain this as well.

Okay here are the materials you need to start with:
(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg357.imageshack.us%2Fimg357%2F9791%2Fhowtomakeanautogunbymeasa9.jpg&hash=d61f0d2d8c541e35bb7b3c1a4a2c9146f7d24903)

First cut off the Lasgun's scope and powerpack and then trim down the barrel.
(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg240.imageshack.us%2Fimg240%2F2922%2Fhowtomakeanautogunbymeaiz9.jpg&hash=56776271eec6b6e66fa95c4412d444e5be3f2017)
By meatshield (http://profile.imageshack.us/user/meatshield), shot with Canon PowerShot SD770 IS (http://profile.imageshack.us/camerabuy.php?model=Canon+PowerShot+SD770+IS&make=Canon) at 2008-11-10

Next carefully score a box around the sides of the bolter's ejection port. Make sure your cuts are deep.
(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg240.imageshack.us%2Fimg240%2F482%2Fhowtomakeanautogunbymeaem9.jpg&hash=f1306a2d29758f0d07d9d618b68bf5f511a5731d)
By meatshield (http://profile.imageshack.us/user/meatshield), shot with Canon PowerShot SD770 IS (http://profile.imageshack.us/camerabuy.php?model=Canon+PowerShot+SD770+IS&make=Canon) at 2008-11-10

After this, make a vertical cut from the top of the bolter and carefully cut out the ejection port.
(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg526.imageshack.us%2Fimg526%2F2929%2Fhowtomakeanautogunbymeapv4.jpg&hash=acf054a5dbdf95d8f20655eca2b1438658e7cb77)
By meatshield (http://profile.imageshack.us/user/meatshield), shot with Canon PowerShot SD770 IS (http://profile.imageshack.us/camerabuy.php?model=Canon+PowerShot+SD770+IS&make=Canon) at 2008-11-10

Next, gently cut the forward gun sight and ammo magazine off of the bolt pistol.
(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg234.imageshack.us%2Fimg234%2F4020%2Fhowtomakeanautogunbymeais8.jpg&hash=1abd056bf746e3119f6ecbcb79ddc1dc99e74bd2)
By meatshield (http://profile.imageshack.us/user/meatshield), shot with Canon PowerShot SD770 IS (http://profile.imageshack.us/camerabuy.php?model=Canon+PowerShot+SD770+IS&make=Canon) at 2008-11-10

Now this is what you should have to make the autogun. A trimed down Lasgun, a bolter's ejection port, and a bolt pistol's forward gun sight and magazine.
(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg353.imageshack.us%2Fimg353%2F7751%2Fhowtomakeanautogunbymeaxr6.jpg&hash=f8b00a8fd365cb860f3d223e85ccb7f365f11b59)
By meatshield (http://profile.imageshack.us/user/meatshield), shot with Canon PowerShot SD770 IS (http://profile.imageshack.us/camerabuy.php?model=Canon+PowerShot+SD770+IS&make=Canon) at 2008-11-10

Now just stick them on the gun like so.
(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg354.imageshack.us%2Fimg354%2F7538%2Fhowtomakeanautogunbymeawc8.jpg&hash=1a0aa870d8c4e840859ad995ca50f679e668fa34)
By meatshield (http://profile.imageshack.us/user/meatshield), shot with Canon PowerShot SD770 IS (http://profile.imageshack.us/camerabuy.php?model=Canon+PowerShot+SD770+IS&make=Canon) at 2008-11-10

Next cut some small thin strips of plasticard and afixthem to the top of the gun. Now you have your own Meatshield pattern Autogun!
(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg380.imageshack.us%2Fimg380%2F3163%2Fhowtomakeanautogunbymeafc9.jpg&hash=e27674bd9977ca8ce3a969a47dfe5a8b331cd2c8)
By meatshield (http://profile.imageshack.us/user/meatshield), shot with Canon PowerShot SD770 IS (http://profile.imageshack.us/camerabuy.php?model=Canon+PowerShot+SD770+IS&make=Canon) at 2008-11-10

Hope you liked the tutorial!

What type of list are you running? If its just the normal guard list with chaotic models, it should be perfectly fine.

Sure you can! What are you going to use them for? Cool Skitarii or something? It would be cool to see some pictures of what you did when you are building/finishing your army!  :)

I'm not really planning any army, I'm just making stuff to my heart's content and figuring out how to use it in battle later.

Now here it a picture of my Banner carrier. He originally had a Cadian head, but I switched it out for one of those new German Helmet heads I have.

This First pic is bad, but the only way to show the whole model.

I really like your Officer Conversion, very nice! The only thing is that he has no gun type weapon, you might want at least give him a holstered pistol.

The sentinels are very nice too! The A/Cs with the CCW at the ends reminds me of the Reaper A/Cs on Chaos Terminators. I saw you made some taloned feet conversions, very nice! I have a friend who did that with his Catachans, by taking the older version of the LemanRuss Dozer blade with the sharp pointy ends of it.

Something like a holstered pistol and a few grenades or pouches would make him a great 40k commander... however, since he's Khorne, he could easily do just as much without.  Love the model, though.  Amamzing.  Almost orgasmed looking at it.

And the sentinels are pretty great, for Chaos.  You've done a great job in making them look Renegade, and close combat too!

Sick missile launcher. I wanna get myself one of those... yeah baby.

I really like the masks and helmets... you should stick with those, modelling up your entire army like that.

Now that I'm back from my vacation I post to save this topic once again. I should have just asked for a project thread.

As for the officer above, I'm trying to find a place to put a gun holster, but can't find a good place to put one on the model.

Anyway here are some forge world renegade based troops.

And a close up of the painted guy. I'm tring to work out a decent color scheme.

and the side. The one red arrow jutting out of the corner of the armor is a motif I think which will be a simple symbol for my army's flags and what not.

Next, I wanted some models to represent the Dark Mechanicus which backs many chaos armies. Although you can't see it very well the skull insignia on the axe has a horn and fang sculpted on it.(https://www.40konline.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg377.imageshack.us%2Fimg377%2F281%2Fpicsfor40konlinedm002ts6.jpg&hash=fffddb19b46e67eeac8c89ae539c1d2f8a13cfcb)

I wanted some daemonic infestation going on to set the Engineseer apart from his Imperial counterpart.

Nice conversions, though I think the lascannon still looks a bit too much like a missile launcher...
How did you make such a sweat looking flag?
The flag is actually a sixth edition Empire State Troop banner.

For an easy conversion of the standard cadian heads, just shave of the boxes and imperial eagle, then cut down the helmets brim over the cheekpads by a few mm.
