Title: Imperial Armour V3 (2nd): Taros
Post by: The GrimSqueaker on May 22, 2013, 03:58:26 PM
Taros has been reissued after being updated for 6th edition. Of interest will be what's been made of the Tetra and Barracuda to bring them more in line with the current edition and codex rules. The Guard also get their 6th Edition Elysian Drop Troops list.

If they bump the Barracuda a point of armor on the front and sides and give it an extra hull point, they've made a sale. Otherwise, they can piss off. It would be the most expensive model that would never get to see the board for more than one turn.

Very curious to see what happened to Tetras, though they hardly need updating. Work just fine as-is, really.

Tetras work fine just as the old Taros or fine just as the FW experimental rules official update from a little while ago?

The update, I think. Not sure which I have, honestly (it's a printout I received via [redacted] along with the rules for heavy gun drones, sensor towers, and...some other thing.). Anyway, they're useful without being overpowered or overpriced. Not much to fix outside of the 'Forward Observer' rule, which seems to do nothing anymore.

That's the update. It's not naughty to have it, it's still on their website just not linked to on the Downloads page. That's how I double checked and found I was wrong to call them experimental rules as they were an actual legal update.

Hmmmm... I sent FW an email about 3 weeks ago asking about rules for IA3 models in 6th Ed. They haven't bothered to answer it at all.

As for the book, I might stump up £50 for a new volume of IA, but do they really want me to pay again for all that fluff just to get a few pages of updated rules?

Not impressed :-\

I'm very excited about this as it was one of the reasons why I got into Tau in the first place, but I still haven't got round to buying it!  Although it does annoy me that they don't provide updates for all those who already have the book...  However how would they figure out who had it and who didn't...

Well, it's good news and bad news. The Tetra has a differently working markerlight than the one in the previously published update but it is now cheaper so we've got that going for us.

The Barracuda has been given the proper treatment and is now treated the same as the other race's flyers. I can't remember what it cost before so can't tell you if it's cheaper or not at the moment. Combining supersonic, agile, and disruption pods could be interesting.

This 2ed book also includes the post-Taros kit like the XV 9s, Remoras, and Commander R'alai.

Probably wrong place to ask but any info on the Drop Trops?

They're in there but being relatively unfamiliar with the lists I don't know what's appreciably changed or otherwise turned into a woo hoo moment.

I'm afraid to ask what's in there exactly for fear of crossing a line.  :P

Yeah.  ;)

You can now have an Avenger if you want, more expensive than a Lightning but less than a Thunderbolt.  :P

Do they have a warlord trait list and a wargear list?

Any unusual items?

Sorry Tangi. Can't help you there.

I did, however, read over the new tau rules.

Tetra: I think the precision-markerlight-thing's mechanic of being TL nicely evens out the fact that the tetra doesn't have access to the targeting array anymore. Pretty good buy for its points, and definitely superior to the Codex: Tau Empire markerlight suppliers.

Barracuda: meh. I'm still not particularly convinced. Maybe it's because I use flyers as AA units, and in Tau, there's better things to do that then the Barracuda. This is a personal opinion, of course.

Manta: God, the rules for this thing get stranger each edition... 90-ish burst-cannon shots... GW isn't being conservative with big numbers it seems.
I don't play Apoc, however, so I can't make a factual opinion about how good this thing is. This applies to all the Apoc units.

Heavy Gun Drones: As with their previous rules. Just not worth it for the points.

Drone-Tower-things: Good, perhaps, for a static, gun-line list where someone might get some use out of these things. I will not.
